  3. openness for the sake of openness... on Nokia responds to iPhone by Promoting 'Open' · · Score: 1

Having any major cooperation do openness for the sake of openness is impossible when it will cost them substantial amounts of money(as with AT&T). Honestly who would stay with AT&T if they had a choice. I personally have AT&T but that is because Verizon T-mobile and sprint have very poor signal in my hometown so the entire town including all my friends had Cingular. If they allowed the iPhone to be open to all privers then AT&T would lose a lot of money and that is why they don't do it. But we will beet them in the end, hackers will always overpower the providers in these matters.

Actually most trained professionals generally maintain calm when preparing to kill someone. Its only untrained schmucks like us out here in the "regular Joe Bloggs world" that start pushing lots of red stuff through our hearts when we're about to do something we're not accustomed to (on slashdot, that is equal possibilities, sex or killing... j/k). Government's solution arrest all the people who are calm because of course they must all be trained professionals.(This is a joke,I have noticed some people may not realize that)

I don't know what planet you are from but when having sex don't most males push a lot of that "red stuff" to a different organ?

When did I ever say it was easy and fast to pick a lock? Plus at schools people will only have short amounts of time with the computer before the risk of being caught is too high(see It Takes A Thief on the Discovery Channel) and some schools also have security cameras. At home you may have hours with full access to the computer and you can practice on a different lock.

  14. Re:Not really on How To Configure Real PC Parental Controls? · · Score: 1

You can pick locks too. They don't cost all that much only around $15.
Also even if you break the lock, you can always just buy a replacement and hope it isn't noticed.

  15. Re:Not really on How To Configure Real PC Parental Controls? · · Score: 1

If the lock used to lock the case shut was remotely decent, the only way someone else will be able to use the computer is to break either the lock or the case or both. Or try all the combinations possible starting from 0000 to 9999 assuming it is a 4 digit numerical lock. Trust me it doesn't take all that long to do just one day alone or multiple days with small increments. I have been forced to do this when I forgot a combination or when my father tried the same thing when I was younger(until he realized I knew more than he does about computers).

Give up now it is a losing battle.

The only thing that you can do is please the most amount of people without losing money. I personally use Adblock plus with the Filterset.G add-on but if I believe in supporting a website(such as slashdot) I will whitelist the site and voluntarily view the ads.

Does their study show why Conservatives want to blame all their problems on Mexicans I resent that, we blame thing on liberals too :P

But in all seriousness those are just stereotypes and doesn't help create open discussion about problems this country may face now or in the future. I am conservative but I believe that we need to be doing somethings differently. Just because someone is conservative doesn't mean they fully support the President and just because someone is Liberal doesn't mean they are "a bunch of pansies that want to back out of a war we need to win". Just because someone defines themselves as a liberal or a conservative or somewhere in between doesn't mean that they fit in that category perfectly.

Ringtones can be made in iTunes, but they charge you an additional 99 cents, even if you've already purchased the song. This is beyond assinine, paying for a feature that, by common sense, one would assume is a simple built-in function of the iphone. Oh and paying $2-3 for half a song is any better?
