I just think it's good that Jon backed offa Dogma because it was so frikking hilarious and it was true, all so true! ;-).

    End of Days:
Jon bashed it a little TOO much don't you think? Arnold's (you wanted me to TYPE OUT his LAST NAME? mwahahah! you're funny) movies have ALWAYS been about pounding action with no real theme or polt!!! The only good movies he made were Twins and that movie where he's pregnant, he should consider more funny movies from now on. Other than those, Arnold always does pulse pounding action in which he gets shot 1,000,000 times and still walks around like nothing. And this is another one of those, and I don't care; I was going "Jerry, Jerry!" half the time of this movie, because that's what Arnold is all about: POW, BANG, SLAM. Who cares?! And there's always that music isn't there? "DUN DUN, DUN DUN, DUN DUN, CLINK CLINK, DUN DUN" oooohhh it's so suspenseful! ;-)

    First, I have Slackware 7.0 with XFree86 3.3.5.
My video card is a Viper 770 Ultra.

Anyhow, I got the RPM of Q3Demo and installed it with the -i --nodeps option (I have a script which automates this for me).
Next, I got the non-dyn GLX drivers from nVidia's FTP site, and untarred and installed them.
Then I ran XF86Setup (case counts, xset.tgz must be installed [on Slackware 7.0]), and picked all resoltions from 640x480 through 1152x870 (you can pick whatever you want, just make sure you have 1152x870 in there (don't ask), and I picked 16bit color as my default display color.
Then I loaded up X and ran Q3Demo with the option to use the GL.so driver that nVidia had installed for me (hehe).
And POW it worked just fine. I can't change between resolutions, I have to stay at 640x480,f if anyone knows why it is crashing, lemme know please. I also only get 10~15FPS (at settings where its normal to get 60+FPS in Windows) but I hear it is a common thing to be sluggish, but hey, XFree86 4.0 is coming, don't worry! :-)

Anyhoo, that's how I did it, and it is at least playable to a certain extent. I'm sure going to be showing it off at the next LAN party! ;-)

    BTW: sound works perfectly.

PS: It would be nice to see the 16-bit limit removed, wouldn't it? All in due time (XFree86 4.0!).

Well last I saw/heard, whatever. They were all different programs, thus different executables, such as "kword", "kspread", etc. If things have changed in the new version(s) I don't know. 11. More than one question on Interview: Ask the KDE Developers · · Score: 5

First, let me start off by saying that I think this is a really nice idea. Now off to my qestions.

    1. In the 1.x series of KDE, we have seen some nice interaction between the programs and the actual system. However, all that was required was that a program be written in QT, and also maybe use the KDE libraries. My point is that there was not a lot of system interaction and integrity which can be observed in other systems. For example, databases and such didn't exactly have to be standard, KSCD uses its own, and other CD players use THEIR own. Anyhow, will we see a much tighter environment with KDE 2.0, besides what we already know?

    2. There was a big problem with what Red Hat did to KDE in it's 6.0 release. Putting it in /usr? I personally like it in /opt. Anyhow, this created a lot of problems for me (and I'm sure it did for lots of programmers), because I tried to install several applications for KDE from RPM, but because they were older (i.e., for Red Hat 5.x) they installed into /opt. Is there going to be some kind of rule or way that such things will be prevented in the future?

    3. Will the next KDE be able to read menus from other WMs? Such as E, GNOME, FVWM, etc? I think it is nice that we see such things in other WMs such as GNOME, and it sure would help in organizing user menus. Also, the menu editor in KDE 1.x has been cryptic and difficult. Since there isn't much information on the new system, will it be easyer, more like a tree (yes, Windows-style) of shortcuts or something similar?

    4. In the past KDE was not able to interact with applications from other desktop environments very well. For example, if I have X-Chat or Grip (grip is for making MP3s) installed, they won't gain a lot of recognition in KDE because the are gnome apps, same goes for XMMS. Will KDE in the future be able to detect some of these applictions (and will the limit of XPM icons be removed?

    That's all! Thanks!

Would it be a bad or good marketing move to put all three versions of Quake III on one ISO 9660 formatted CD-ROM?

On one hand, you have the fact that people will probably just buy the Windows version (yes, even hardcore Linuxers like me), and then hapilly await the official Linux release or Mac release on the Internet, it only makes sense, as this is the way many are used to doing it.

On the other hand, you have everyone buying the same thing with all three versions, and just being able to use it with whatever they want.

Would it be such a bad idea to sell one CD? I think if one CD were sold, it would actually probably sell more than three different CDs. And truthfully, I think the Linux CD would flop in a big way (about, oh, 10 people in the state of Maryland would buy the Linux version? so count US out ;o).

Here is 3dfx, your dual-head display king of the next millennium. Nobody matches these babies. Here it is. If Microsoft wasn't a monopoly and had a large amount of big competitors who could take customers away from them, their legacy OS would cost a mere fraction of what it does. MS only charges $180 for Windows 98 CDs because they can. Why? No competition. If MS took the price up to $500 for Windows 98, everyone would get madly screwed, because, where else would you turn for what Windows has to offer to home users? Nowhere! So that is why it is bad. They could charge $50 for a full Windows 98 CD, and that is way too much! But without competition, they can charge you however much they want, and that is how they like it.
