    Words evolve over time into different shaded meanings. You do realize that dictionaries dont define a word, USAGE does. A dictionary is the CURRENT usages for words, subject to change.

    Thats the crux right there. We have all seen incidents where 5 officers are standing around while 2 of them beat someone to death. When was the last time we saw a cop abusing his authority and being summarily arrested by the other officers on scene?

    Actually, it is NOT illegal to ask an applicant's age in any way. What is illegal is using an applicants age to deny them employment. The reason most people avoid the question is to make sure you dont leave an opening for someone to sue you.

    They were fined not for the cell phone use, but the fact that it was labeled as a root cause of the accident, of which almost any human action can be applied. Mascara applying, changing underwear all would be the same thing. Cell phone laws generally are for simple act of holding the phone while driving, its quite distinct to being cited for distracted driving. One is a label of fault, the other a pre-crime.

    Im not saying that we should be able to carry on willy-nilly in a car, but i am quite capable of carrying on a hands free conversation and drive.

    For the record I own motorola bluetooth handsfree speakers for my cars. In my state this is totally legal to use while driving, so long as I continue to drive appropriately. If I allow my conversation to affect my judgement and I start driving erratically, then that same root behavior now becomes the cause of a crime.

    And he was right. Trekkies needed that injection of realism, and it couldnt have come from a better source. That was a real moment, and im so very glad he did it. It made him a human being in our eyes again. Your lack of respect for a man whose body of work reaches MILLIONS of people DAILY even now is quite frankly astonishing. 40+ years of TV and most of it still fucking airs. Right now at least 10,000 people are watching Shatner doing something and they are being entertained by it. Fuck you.

    NOWHERE in the US is it illegal to use your cellphone while driving. It is illegal to have it in your hand in some places, but not illegal to use while driving.

    Show me ONE other product from a single vendor that does Screen mirroring like Ipad/AppleTV. WiDi is a joke because intel is too fucking lazy to make a receiver puck for it, relying on third parties. ANd as far as format support goes, give it up, no one device besides a PC is going ot ever do every format people will want. Try to hit the largest targets (i.e. just encode to mp4/H.264) and be done with it. Its far easier to standardize your video type then to try and hope every future device supports your Ogg collection.

    As I said above, these guys are right in principle, but wrong on the details. The way Apple is positioned on this, all the grunt horsepower is going ot be on your iDevice, feeding your AppleTV.

    No need for a next gen AppleTV, its all gonna be done via iDevices. The AppleTV is and will remain a streaming device, with the iDevices feeding it via wireless/wired screen mirroring.

    Its possible that the switch contacts were fouled. Far more likely then your postulation that it is infallible. For the record, my i5 sandy Bridge PC locks up from time to time and even a 5 second button press wont reset it. I have to hit the switch on the PSU. I think you should just stop talking now, your credibility is less then zero.

    We at slashdot recognize the need for police, that does not mean that we ignore the EXTREMELY wide spread corruption. That does not mean we ignore the situations where one cop is clearly acting illegally and 5 other cops stand around and do nothing. When was the last time we saw a cop stop another cop and arrest him in the act of something clearly illegal (i.e Kelly Thomas). Several officers of the law stood around while 2 of them beat a homeless/handicapped man to death. Why in the fuck did not one of them intervene? Have you seen the pics of what they did to him? You are telling me thats right?

    Any cop who sees another cop engage in illegal activity and does nothing is also a bad cop. There is far too much police abuse to assume the good cops are doing their job.
