did a judge not sign off on the warrant? This is a felony THEFT case, not a journalistic source case. Chen has no standing. The police had a warrant signed by a judge in good standing. Until that warrant is JUDGED illegal by another judge in good standing , the warrant is legal and the police acted accordingly.
Your post implies that the negotiated price between 2 thieves is the real value of the device. A prototype device of this nature is hard to put a pricepoint on, but it is far more then $5000
Digital Photo Archiving is a completely separate discipline from photography, with multiple methods. Right now we have no digital archival quality method of storage, so we use multiple methods to ensure archive quality. RAID, periodic back up to optical media, online clouds, offline stored hard drives and most important of all, regular and complete periodic restoration of the data to ensure that the backups are viable.
Right now, I have no less then 6 full and complete copies of every photo Ive ever taken.
The groundwork to put a camera, microphone and radio transmitter in every viewing screen trivially is now in place. It is becoming very common and accepted for consumer devices to have huge gaping backdoors for the manufacturer to do as he pleases. Telecom privacy is a joke. You dont see how these tools could possibly lead up to a dystopian future? Im not saying its inevitable, or even probable, only becoming more possible. Im not shouting FIRE, Im simply observing the erosion of what we used to think of as privacy and ownership. If I have to invoke a stark image, its only because these incidents are becoming far more frequent, with companies exercising unprecedented control over products you 'own'.
is rushing at us at breakneck speed. How many devices are out now that give the manufacturer complete remote control of the device? How many companies are using that control with impunity? Amazon, Apple, Sony, all have recent incidents of completely over the line behavior. The law is not catching up quickly enough.
Hell, most nights im pulling down 2 HD netflix streams perfectly. Netflix has got their shit together. Its sad that The Office on netflix is 10 times better then the NBC.com experience.
I really think that Apple kind of followed Sony and Microsoft. They made game consoles, which are a lot like computers, but are locked down and force fed material through approved channels only. iPad is the same thing. I think when all the big tech companies were designing the PS3/Xbox360 digital ecosystem back in 00's Jobs paid attention and saw he could do that with non-game media too.
You dont own the app store, to which his statement applies. You can do whatever you want with the hardware in your hand, but you cant force apple to carry porn apps. Its the same exact thing as you expecting Xbox Live Marketplace to carry porn games. IM not an apple fanboy, but I am a fan of logic.
Quake 3 on Dreamcast was so infuriatingly slow. Hard to accept that in a port of a PC game that lets you actually move faster in multiplayer if you had killer hardware.
UT 2004 MORE then made up for UT 2003. UT III they just stopped trying. I own it for PC (collectors edition) and PS3 (bargain bin $12). I also own every retail PC game (physical discs) Epic ever put out, plus UT on dreamcast, and Xbox 1.
Up until GoW 2/UT III, Cliffy B deserved his 'rock star' status. Now hes just another console schlep that forgot who it was that put him where he is today.
"I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and “Gears” is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC
is just in disarray what’s driving the PC right now is ‘Sims’-type games and ‘WoW‘ and a lot of stuff that’s in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That’s the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we’re doing. It’s important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at." - Cliffy B
Epic is dead to me.
No I dont believe that for a second. But I also am not foolish enough to ignore that the capability to completely monitor you is there at a whim. Blatant backdooring is just plain scary when it becomes ubiquitous, and it IS becoming ubiquitous.
ITs the 1984 levels of control that drive us crazy. The Kindle/1984 scandal is probably the greatest irony I've ever seen in my life and an extremely clear moment of clarity for all of us of the waters we are wading into. Its not lost on me that Apple puts a camera in almost everything it sells and retains absolute (even remote) control over the devices that have the most personal information in them(cellphones) There is good reason for Apple to leave a bad taste in our mouth, and it has nothing to do with loss of relative technical prowess. Im still the 800lb gorilla in my social circle when it comes to all things tech, i dont see that changing any time soon. Patronizing this damn website daily certainly helps in this regard.:)
If i take my warrantied Mercedes to a STATE CERTIFIED mechanic and he performs standard maintenance/replacement with standard parts (any manufacturer), Mercedes CANNOT void your warranty in any way. The law is EXTREMELY clear on this.
Ive been saying this for awhile, the Ipad is Apple's 'console'. It is NOT a general purpose PC anymore then the Xbox 360 or PS3 (RIP OtherOS). Sony and MS pull dick moves like this all the time on their closed platforms and very few say boo. Imagine if Apple all of a sudden said you cant Boot Camp other OS's on your Mac anymore for OS X security reasons? The computing world would burn them at the stake, Sony does it and no one says a word. Interesting.
The last time Adobe ignored Apple, Apple went and made its own world class software. Im quite sure they are prepared to do it again. Apple has doesnt really give a shit about Adobe at all.
I would like to think that they wised up a bit. They really have had some stellar games coming out lately and not so dickish moves. I dont love the VIP program in BFBC2, but i get it. My question is, when did we allow multiplayer to become a separate, premium commodity?:(
I really enjoy my Palm Pre Plus, but its 'software ecosphere' is really suffering. This news reinforces that fact.

IF you login to Steam on one machine while currently logged in on another machine, it will kick you from the other machine.

How about a compromise? Missile Command emulated but controlled by a standalone arcade-grade trackball?

This is EXACTLY why I refused to give PlayOn money. They have no control over when someone else is going to pull the plug.

I think you forget how constrained shooters were before Far Cry.
Zul'Gurub
Pretty much since hard drives were cheap enough to mate up with their digitizers.
Its a console, just like PS3 and Xbox360. Same exact concept, but applied to other media.
