You could Virtualize 32 bit XP (windows 7 has this with a simple download), or dual boot. Other then the extended memory, why are you running a 64 bit OS anyways? I doubt your laptop has > 4 GB of ram.
First of all a SAN/NAS is not expensive. Its a couple of drives with a $150 housing. And my lack of being typical keeps me rolling in customers who want to learn the ways of backing up data properly after they almost lost 5 years of pics of their kids. Keeping important data in only one place is stupid, keep important data in one place on a laptop hard drive is doubly stupid.
Even on my laptop no 'perm' data gets stored on the OS drive. Anything that is on it is considered expendable and must be able to be easily restored. Usually this means putting all that extra stuff on external storage as a copy from the SAN. Its just how i roll with my data.
I will never understand why people keep so much data on their machine like that. Any large amount of data like that would pushed off onto the SAN on my machine/network.
I run a 76 GB 10k raptor (cant believe its 5 years old and out of warranty already...) and a 500 GB 'temp' (temp defined as an hour to months, but defined as expendable data) drive. Any data on the machine is either expendable or backed up to the SAN.
Hate to reply to myself but i also wanted to add that Carl Sagan gives us a very good example of how easy it would be to kill a planet once we truly master matter/energy. HIs example was the core of a neutron star, about the size of a grapefruit. If you could get it close enough to the earth, it would start punching holes through it, back and forth, quickly destroying the planet. THis isnt a 1:1 analogy, but you get the idea of how trivial it would be to kill us all very very fast.
THe realistic benefit of space travel is to get our asses of this rock and establish a secondary biosphere. Our survival absolutely 100% depends on it. ITs is not a question of IF, only when. One only has to look at the moon to see the evidence staring him in the face. Take a risk assesment of NOT establising a secondary biosphere and see what numbers you come up with given the history and timeline of the planet. THe earths biosphere is probably one of the most fragile things ever to exist.
THis reminds me of most current Scfi universes like Star WArs/Trek etc, and the ludicrous idea of planetary defenses. When you have that much power at your disposal, chucking a very large rock at a planet is trivial.
Dreamcast death can be easily summed up. Saturn surprise launch(pissed of pretty much EVERYONE in the industry), Sony's PS2 lies and super easy pirating.
KAraoke is a much closer correlation
When people go out for Karaoke no one calls it a waste of time and that they should get REAL singing lessons. I will never understand how people fail to make this connection regarding rythm games
You jsut dont get it. Guitar hero fills that moment, its MEANT to ephemeral. Playing a real guitar is a real skill and few have the desire to go that deep into it. They want ot pop in their favorite tune, set it to medium and feel like Eddie Van Halen for 30 minutes. The VAST majority of people who play these games have NO inclination to EVER play the real thing. ITs a game, meant to be enjoyed at the moment. These games were never meant to 'teach' you to play guitar anymore then singing Karaoke will teach you to sing. Your post may be applicable for the very top end of players, but I assure they are vastly outnumbered by the duffers.
What you call systematic discrimination against people with cars could also be labeled 'controlling the rate at which the populous consumes driving resources.' To YOU its the city vs you. To the city, its a much larger scale issue. It stands to reason that since we dont control our population growth and every American believes they just have to own a car, you are going to get squeezed when you choose to drive in very dense areas.
Sony's outright LIES about the PS2 did far more damage then ease of piracy to the Dreamcast. Im not saying Sega didnt drop the ball, they had been sowing the seeds of ruin ever since the Saturn surprise launch.
Tivo didnt invent anything that wasnt already KNOWN. THey took existing hardware, tied it together with some nice software and see 'oo look at we invented'. The DVR was an inevitable INCREMENTAL improvement to the VCR.
Your analogy is flawed. A secretary is not the same level of trust that we have in an operating police officer with badge and gun. Officers special scrutiny comes from their advanced training, weaponry and position of public trust.
So you are saying that public information is only ok to publish in small, disconnected batches and that anyone that aggregates public data in this manner is wrong? Sorry, doesnt seem to hold water. If its public info, all she is doing is aggregating data.
I have 3 outputs on my ATi 4850, 2 DVI, one component and I can drive all 3 at once. I use it with dual Dell 24" WUXGAs and a 720p projector

I regularly drive 2 Dell 24" WUXGA Monitors through DVI and a projector via component. 3 displays, one ATI Radeon 4850
The best use of all for the VMU was the ability to choose football plays on the little screen so your opponent couldnt see what you chose.
I dont think the term MASSIVE can really apply to MUDs etc. Ultima Online would probably be the first true 'MassiveMO'

THey had something similar for PS1 called Yaroze, it was basically a slightly gimped, RELATIVELY cheap dev kit.

Hmm thats funny, I wanted a PSP Go because of the smaller form factor and the possibilities that bluetooth brings to the unit.

ITs funny they tried to trademark a sound that is usually presented at a decibel level illegal in most states.
I had a DirecTivo back in the day, but i now run a Snapstream PVR and a Win 7 media center server feeding 2 PCs and 2 Xbox 360s
They produce something, but they didnt invent it.

Perhaps it is the officers who chose a dangerous job that put themselves in danger.......
Yours is the first comment in this discussion ive read that even mentioned the large scale trial and error aspect of evolution
