If the Mozilla team are worried about building a brand name, they should allow distribution makers to redistribute the icons/artwork. The current Debian unstable version uses the old Firebird art in the about box, and has a really boring icon (just a globe).
I notice that the Firefox buttons page says "Usage guidelines for the new logos is currently under development.". Hopefully this restriction will change.
It is conceivable that AMD could create a SPARC64->AMD RISC translator...
I thought that this was going to be the point of the Crusoe. I remember thinking when it was announced that it would be really cool being able to install some new microcode into the processor, reboot and have an alpha/sparc/ppc! Alas, Transmeta haven't taken that route.
It's untested because... it's untested! Show me evidence of the Mozilla team putting together a testing lab and having a hundred regular people use the application for eight hours. That's application testing, and Mozilla didn't get any of it.
How about the thousands (if not millions) of hours spent by people all over the world testing and filing bug reports for all the versions of mozilla up to 1.0 (don't forget the RC versions as well, only bugfixes in those). Doesn't that count for something?
Yes, most of these things you say are true (I personally love the combination of the joystick control and osd plugins), but the thing that keeps me from using xmms rather than iTunes on my iBook is proper support for ID3v2.[0-3] tags. And I don't mean that half arsed support where it can sometimes just read some v2 tags, I want full read/write support damnit! Oh, and a decent SPC player plugin that supports ID666 tags/lengths properly would be nice too (I use Winamp in Wine for this), anyone know of any solutions to these?
To ensure that just about any Divx film can be played back without image dropouts, you should use at least an AMD Athlon with 800 MHz plus or an Intel Pentium III/733. Otherwise, you will very soon encounter image gremlins or errors, particularly if the image content is complex with numerous motion vectors.
Hmm... I have a PII 450 that plays divx movies just fine. Even in Windoze Media Player!
Okay, now, how can they lose money when you buy something from them? What you really mean is that they don't make back the full production cost of the box.
I find it interesting that it also says in that article:
In his head, Lucas sees the nine films as a whole. He can't wait for the next generation of children to watch them in the right sequence.
The other Guardian article (linked in another post somewhere) also mentions a supposed 'slip-of-the-tongue' made by Lucas referring to Episode VII. Are we to expect a third trilogy?
OK, did anyone else notice that all the adult clones (in the scene where Obi-Wan is being shown round the clone factory, we see a bunch of them eating) are played by the same guy who played the security chief? This got me thinking "Ah! So the security chief is really Jango Fett!" but then we see that Jango looks nothing like his clones! Am I just nitpicking?
The tabbed browsing is nice, but I don't like how you have to "Alt-Shift-Click" to do it. Why not just Shift- or Control- click like Mozilla?
Strange, i just middle click in both. I'm sure i didn't have to set this up in Mozilla, can't remember about Opera. Have a play with the settings.

Do we really need to know about every release of $PackageName? What do i care about $VersionNumber of $PackageName? Can't we have a separate topic for $PackageName so we can at least filter it out? Is this news for nerds, stuff that matters?
Answer: We do care, we don't need topics, and it is news for nerds!
Not if it's the same as the R2 release. There is a documentary about the recording of the radio series, but none of the radio episodes:( The documentary is still interesting though.
I have to agree here. I was in the market for a new graphics card a while back and I briefly considered an ATI card from a moral standpoint (open source etc.), only to find that their drivers hardly support any of the features of the more recent cards.
The NVidia drivers may be closed source, but they are almost as fully featured as the Windows ones, The only graphics related problem I've had seems to be related to the Athlon/AGP thing, i.e. using the card in AGP mode causes X to lock up almost instantly, but even not in AGP mode, it's still faster in Linux than Windows:)
What you should do is put it as "What would Microsoft do". If you too microsoft's code and decompiled it and then changed a few names and recompiled it would they sue?
Hmm... but whose to say it isn't M$ doing this? I for one would not be too surprised.
What happens when we get weird-ass mutant flies take over?
No, the flies won't take over, if you actually read any more than the headline you'd see that they're sterilized by radiation, not actually mutants in any scientific sense (as several other posters have already pointed out). It's not as if they will breed and pass on their sterility. I think you've been reading too many comics.
That said, it doesn't seem to me that this will actually reduce the fly population significantly, so the only reason it might be a bad idea is due to it being a waste of money.
That's not really a fair comparison either. The hypothetical car would contain the drugs, so it's perfectly fair to take that, there's no obviously seperate part of the car that contains the drugs. The only thing in this case that tecnically "contains" the warez/mp3s would be the hard disk. But still, you'd have a had time trying to convice them of that.
...the package management system, which rocks, but only as long as you are just installing pre-made binaries. I never tried to create a RPM, but making a.deb from some arbitrary code you downloaded is definetly way to much work...
You should investigate checkinstall. It makes making a.deb (or a.rpm or.tgz (for slackware) for that matter) as easy as a single command. Sure it doesn't take any dependencies into account, but you can't have everything:)

Alt-3, it's not shown on the keyboard, but it's there.

I assume you want some 'cos you saw him smoking it and thought it was cool, no? :)

Gah, think about that for a second...

This is all so much funnier if you take the UK definition of "pissed" (drunk) :)

Somehow I doubt they'll be GPLing Tru64...
Tru64 UNIX has some very advanced features -- including clustering and file systems -- and some of those will be integrated into HP-UX over time.
There is, or at least is starting to be. It doesn't seem to have come very far yet.
