However, if you point your browser here , here, or here you can download the various different quality full length trailers, which will play fine with the latest version of mplayer.
Did anyone get to the site and download the ROM image before it was removed? If so, what was the filename so I can go look it up on $P2PNETWORK?

Yes, the Solaris x86 installer is the bitch installer from hell. I managed to neatly clean the partition table off a disk after giving the wrong answer to a cleverly disguised question. It seems that Sun's method of 'fixing' a single dodgy partition entry is to get rid of the whole partition table...
If the binary is available for download, the source must be available for download from the same location at the same time.
Isn't it a lot more general than that, it's more along the lines of "if a binary is available then source must be available", no distribution methods specified. So if they provide binaries to download they don't have to make the source available on the same site, just give it out when asked.
Whoops, you shot yourself in the foot there dincha? ^_^
Scroll down till you get to the Distributions graph (as opposed to the Source graph I assume you looked at), and you'll see that RedHat is actually the most popular distro. But does this make it standard? That's a different question. Popular does not always mean good (as is amply demonstrated by chart music). Also interesting to note from this graph is that Slack is nearly as popular as Mandrake, 14& and 16% respectively.
DISCLAIMER:
I use Slackware at the moment, but when I can be bothered I'm going to switch to Debian, partly because it's the only major distro I haven't tried yet (but mostly 'cos my system is getting messy from all the stuff I've d'led/compiled, this is less a comment on Slackware and more a comment on my usage habits ^_^)

the official linux client - kza still works. I am using it now, but you can't use it to share files:-/

The one thing that gnutella clients need is support for downloading from multiple hosts simultaneously. I haven't yet found a client that supports this, or is it some limitation on the network?
The fact of the matter is that most developers are more experienced and more knowledgable about the setup and usage of their machines than the IT staff is. I've always found it to be ironic that some 19 year old moron with no formal computing education and no previous work experience could be empowered and trusted to have Admin rights on an NT/2000 system, when the developer who works on it cannot.
Hmm... interesting.
I am at Uni now, but spent the last year working in an IT department of a fairly large company, where I was a "19 year old moron with no formal computing education and no previous work experience" who had quite a few network/local privs (okay, so not admin). What was most interesting was not that some of the more experienced developers did not have admin rights, but that they weren't really aware that they didn't! Everyone seemed to manage making the odd registry change so I guess they weren't completely locked down, but they certainley didn't any more privs than the average luser. There was no problem getting extra rights on the network (at least not for most IT staff), but they never seemed to need it, I guess I just liked the power trip ^_^

Seriously though, I thought the Unix-alike philosophy was to have lots of small programs each doing it's own job well, rather than one huge program trying to do everything. Emacs seems to go against this more than Microsoft goes against the philosophy that an OS should be stable.
That kind of machine would probably be able to run a recomplied version of win95.
And you would want to do this because...?
Seriously though, let's not have full blown desktop OSs running on palmtop devices. Running Linux on them is cool, but do we really need X to provide the gui (I'm thinking of the Agenda here). They're not even much use as portable X terminals as the displays are too small.
Whatever happened to
QNX on the iPaq? I thought that looked quite promising.
On a different note, if some useful *nix doesn't appear for my Jornada 720 soon, I might just have to sell it and get one of these iPaqs ^_^
Since I've never seen a TV with a degauss button, and since I presume a TV would suffer discoloration just like a monitor, this would seem to be another reason not to bother with this kludgy setup.
No, but most TVs that I've seen seem to have an On/Off button, which produces the same effect (at least it does on a monitor).
An entire database in an audio player? Thanks, but I'm going to err on the side of sleekness. This may be a neat feature, but I never play my MP3's in any other way than drag and drop. I drag and drop a particular track I wanna hear, or drag a whole folder and then hit 'shuffle'. I'm certain others will find it useful, but for me, it's unecessary bloat.
I have to agree with you here, the thing I like about Winamp 2 is the simplicity of the playlist. I can just point it at an entire directory, and then shuffle through all the files in there. The new Winamp (although all the functionality isn't there yet) does not seem to make that very easy. Never mind, I can still use xmms!
...they must be running Windows, haha...
It's funny you should say that, because according to Netcraft, they are!

I have been getting the same errors since this morning. My flatmates running the windoze client are all connecting fine with no updates.
There is now a follow up story @ dotcomscoop quoting a statement from the company that has bought KaZaa, so it would seem to be true.
