Good point about the wait time. I hope that they have used the sales figures to understand how many cars they need to be able to charge at the same time. Remember this is ONLY for Model S owners. Take your Leaf to the local Starbucks and run an extension cord.

Also, FTA the Supercharger is still connected to the grid. If the unit needs to pull more current than it's generating at the moment it can do so and charge multiple cars. At least that is what I would expect from a forward thinking ambitious project like this.

  9. EVs are a second-car choice that costs a lot. on Toyota Abandons Plans For All-Electric Vehicle Rollout · · Score: 1

The range extended EV type, of which only the Chevy Volt is available is really the only choice for anyone with a greater than average commute length. I just don't want to be that tied to "the grid" (I wonder how poorly the ranges degrades if I tow a solar panel array.) Even the Volt as a second commuter car purchase is a tough ecomonic decision.

Even Chevrolet is telling you this in plain English.
    Chevrolet Volt - $40,000
Chevrolet Cruze Eco $20,000 and gets 42mpg.

    Plus, a little math problem.
That 42mpg really off sets my fuel budget much better than the Volt. I drive about 14,500 miles a year just for the commute. Not all highway driving so lets I am guessing that I might get 32mpg on avearge. 14,500/32=455 gallons a year. 455x$4.50 a gallon for gas in Northern California = $2047.50. That is about the cost of the charging station I believe.

So, even if electricity cost is zero and gas gradually increases to $8.00 per gallon costing $3640.00 per year, I can drive the Cruze for another 5-8 years before the Volt starts to get the advantage.

Sorry, I want an EV and the Volt has the technology type I like best. I just cant justify the cost right now. I will check back in 5 years. Until then, please keep the government subsidies for the people that can keep this technology alive in order for it to become affordable.

I know that I swim against the /. current here when it comes to Window Phone. I haven't drank of the MS or Apple or Linux koolaid. I use all three desktop OS flavors at work every week and they all have strengths and weaknesses. I never bought the first iPhone because of the soldered in battery. At the time I was using 2 batteries a day in the field. (not to mention the privacy concerns of not being able to REALLY turn off my phone). I had a miserable experience with the first Droid (randomly calling and texting). I went Blackberry for a while. Revisited iPhone, but the screen typing was horrid (large fingers). When it was time to upgrade in 2010 I went with the Samsung Focus and it just worked for me. I do like the Metro interface on the touchscreen, but always by-pass it when using Win8 on the desktop. Seems pretty useless on the desktop, but it would surely be useful on a tablet and possible a laptop with touchscreen.

The Nokia 900 WP7, had some advantages over the Samsung Focus S on the spec sheet. Bigger screen, bigger body (again... large hands), and the camera cmos appeared faster to me in the store. The other advantage is the Xbox Live connection. Love it! Games developed my interest in computers and I am a gamer at heart. My only complaint is that with the Case-Mate case I confuse the phone with my wallet when it's in my pocket sometimes, but I am working on the brain power required to recognize the difference.

I am only mildly concerned about not being able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 with my Nokia 900. If I feel like I'm missing out on some must-have super app before my 2-year upgrade comes around, I will bite the bullet and pay the phone price.
