    The problem isn't who is in office; the problem is a system where (a few) individuals are able to exert their will over the rest of the planet.

    I believe we've dispensed with the myths that they:
      * know what's best
      * have our best interests at heart / are working for the betterment of humanity
      * govern on behalf of the people
      * govern with the consent of the people

    What remains? That they have forced their way into power?

    What is the mechanism that causes this lack of collective filtration for logic in one party but not the other.

    The common parent organisation of both parties has allocated expression-of-stupid to one of the parties such that it may better appeal to its target voters. This may be compared to the deliberate quality-banding imposed by VW group across the Seat Skoda VW Audi brands.

    Mayor Boris Johnson last year called for a national program to pay some drivers to scrap their diesel vehicles.

    This will be completely funded by the VW group and will provide sufficient compensation to drivers to allow them the opportunity to buy an equivalent new car from *any* car maker without compelling them to purchase a vehicle - i.e. to rewind the clock with respect to the purchase which was conducted under false representation by VW.

    The group will also be contributing towards the healthcare costs of each state where their vehicles have been sold and have thus contributed to decreased quality of life. Anyone suffering from respiratory diseases within these states will receive private healthcare of their choosing funded by VW.

    Oh come on. I would like to understand how we have brought up some folks like, to take the worst example, weev. Obviously I don't know a thing about his upbringing, but I know about the general situation, and I suggest a solution, although it would take a generation to implement.

    It's pretty simple really; those with the most influence set the tone for others.

    For example, it's ok to waterboard people, drone strike them, spy on everyone, hound someone to their own suicide just to get ahead in your career, engage in covert wars spanning decades, invade other countries, seize their resources, cleanse their citizens, etc...

    It's OK if *I* do it but you must NOT download mp3s; you must finish your homework; you must be nice to people lest they be offended.

    Starting to see the problem yet?

    There's no shortage of stories of horrible treatment of people in all areas of life. But how did we get here? How did we ever get a community where a vocal majority of people behave in the most boorish manner toward people of all flavours using whichever insult is most likely to the offend the targeted person

    This is becoming a regular problem on /. Article titles and summaries are increasingly assuming that people have the obscure knowledge of the topic to actually care. In this case, who Linode is, what makes Linode important, why this DDoS merits more attention than other attacks, etc.

    This is the way *things* work. If you don't know what the article is about, it's not meant for you!

    If you *want* to read every article and know something about it, why not google it?
