  1. Re:Dos on Steam Survey Takes PC Gaming's Pulse · · Score: 1

Starcraft was the first game I can rememeber running under DX I remember running into DirectX for the first time and going "What the heck is this?" when installing a little gem called Mechwarrior 2 in '96. It actually ran pretty decent, and if you had bought one of those new fangled "3D graphics card" doohickeys, Mechwarrior actually flew pretty well under DirectX. I remember being blown away by the sky moving so cleanly...

Now there is little that impresses me.

Funny that I've bought 4 disc-based games and at least one downloadable game since the beginning of July, and have been using my PS3 almost exclusively for gaming since then. I'll be buying at least 4 more games before the end of the year, too. No, whats funny is that the downloadable game was probably a better game then the 4 disc-based games you purchased. Thats funny, unless you own a PS3. Then it's just sad. The "game drought" may be over, but the "quality game drought" lives on. Hey, at least you can recoup some of your money reselling your PS3 to ./ers looking to make a beowulf cluster.

...skip cut scenes using a non-gameplay key. There's nothing more annoying than missing an important cut-scene because you accidentally hit the Fire button. Especially when the cut scenes intrude on the game suddenly and unexpectedly. Couldn't agree more that being penalized for accidentally pressing a button (especially after an intense boss battle that took 10+ tries to complete) but some games have givin the option to skip, but with a confirmation dialog. Xenosaga was a pretty great game, but some of the cutscenes were long-winded, and playing through a second time, you could press start, and then choose b (i think) to return to the cutscene or press x to skip. Give the player a choice, but make sure it's the player's choice with a confirmation.

It's funny how the term "great" is a matter of opinion, as I have my choices of "great" movies, and yet have never seen any of the movies in your list. Perhaps what made those movies "great" to you was precisely THAT they made you uncomfortable.

Getting back on topic, I personally think this game is trash, but I know there will be many (perhaps a majority) of people who not only buy, but worship the game. Pushing videogames into the realm of the insane isn't innovative and creative, it's the easy way out.
