  1. The obvious: on What is Apple Without Steve Jobs? · · Score: 1

What happened last time was Apple fell downhill, as Jobs became rich on Pixar and, well, interesting with NextStep. I'd bet if Steve leaves, that will happen. But this time, he'll just run Pixar, and end up as the CEO of Disney as a whole. Jobs is charismatic, and, heck, his description of the iPhone was the only one that made it look good. In a time of Apple innovation, not only will Jobs stay, but will be the center of promotion, and loved by $$$-hungry investors, who see his talents in selling

  2. Not gonna happen, sorry on The Mixed Outlook for iPhone Gaming · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'd like to see gaming on an iPhone. But, since Jobs's decree of no external software, I doubt it will ever happen. Nintendo has nothing to fear, because it has many game makers on its side, and likewise for the PSP. I know Mac users who complain about no Mac gaming on the computers - so why should the developers foucus on a phone. Besides, what type of game cartrige (or, in PSP's case, microDVD) could it use for software? I'd like it, but I doubt it.

  4. A guess: Ati? on AMD Aims At New Standard for Motherboards · · Score: 4, Informative

AMD and ATI merged recently. ATI is pushing CrossFire, two cards together. Most non-full-ATX boards can handle this. Will the DTX? They want to share technology, and this would be the perfect (though risky) opportunity. Though, of course, it would not be exclusive. I have heard some crazy stories of how to cool down dual-ATI uber-cards, so maybe the "low power" aspect can help this, too. Just speculation, though.

  5. Good on FCC Opens Market for Cable Boxes · · Score: 2, Interesting

Cable companies are right now huge monstrosities, leaving no space for creativity because of their market shares. If other companies could produce boxes that could have new features, like maybe a TiVo in the box, consumers would have better options. And, with every company advertising the pluses to their services, you could have a firmer grip on deciding what to chose, and they could have fairer competition from external companies. I hate monopolies.

These companies are just trying to show off to one another. They don't have the capacity to mass-produce them, I bet, either. Once available, due to the fact that light just doesn't get so small so easily, they will probably cost a few thousand dollars per disk. Readers are another story. Nobody needs them, they're completely implausible, so I just say: SHUT THE HELL UP, WE DON'T CARE WHAT A FEW WACKO SCIENTISTS AT YOUR COMPANIES CAN SAY! If they foucused on quality, rather than bragging, far more realistic improvements could be made in the consumer world.

I've been noticing all the magazines talking about Wikipedia as the future of intelligence (CIA type). Either these guys read TIME or vice versa. That is the great thing about the internet: decentralized unstoppability. I bet this'll last a long time, and there's nothing Bush can do about it! I bet they'll find many secret documents very, very soon. They're all over the internet, so they can copy them down to preserve the knowledge when Bush attacks.

Win2k was the best MS OS ever. But it's too bad that they're trying to eliminate it, because they want the $$ of XP/Vista. It's good to know that others are trying to stop Microsoft from annoying all who do not pay them. I wonder what Gates thinks of this; extended support costs money, and he hates others stopping him from getting it. Especially if it has source code attached.

  9. Next time, look harder on UK Schools At Risk of Microsoft Lock-In · · Score: 0, Redundant

I would say as a rule not to make deals with MS, as Apple is not ruthless to my knowledge. It's good that they're not switching to all the new products, but they should open their horizons. Microsoft is money-hungry in general, so shame to the people who didn't know that. Do the math and Microsoft just sucks out money. DON'T MAKE ANOTHER DEAL! Macs come with helpful software, so that's a plus that they should've considered. Free>corrupt contracts with tricky math.

The PS3 has the same controls/game style as the XboX, and the XboX is cheaper and more readily availibe. It has almost all the features, too. So I wouldn't think that would be serious competition. The Wii, on the other hand, is so distinct and plain-fun, Microsoft faces losing old-style gamers to the new Wii-style of gaming. I predict Microsoft will get a grip on the button-mashers, but still lose market share because the Wii is, frankly, more fun. It must be embarassing, too. Besides, laws like that have been passed/struck-down, passed/struck-down, passed/struck-down, etc. for years. It would only legally be possible if the state or country started its own ratings board, as only government agencies can say who can get arrested. Kids'll get all the games anyways.
Just leave that job to the parents; if you think parents have no power, you should see teens against the law. Don't intimidate the kids, and problems won't skyrocket.
