A deal breaker? Please, you should be ashamed of yourselves, as should all Americans! Honestly, how long can we continue to go on writing our dates backwards? It's so embarassing... Personally, I'd do business with a company that wrote their dates CORRECTLY over one that didn't any day.
The above URL has disappeared from BBC's website! Was this a mistake? Anyone know any more about this? I know it was working yesterday, since we all read it!
This is a rip-off of the real Star Wars Origami, first reported on Slashdot way back on 25 Sept. 2000 here. Please go to http://www.ftmax.com/Origami/ to see the real Star Wars Origami collection!
This is offtopic, yes, but very relevent to the discussion of Anime that was going on, and very insightful. I can understand why the typical idiotic slashdot-male can not understand this, though it is important for them to start listening. It should not be modded troll.
It's obvious the damn Israelis are merely developing this so that they can "drill" through innocent Palestinians' skulls. It is disgusting--absolutely horrific. This is one terrorist nation that must be stopped.
Has everyone on slashdot forgotten about NuSphere's apparent violation of the GPL with their non-free Gemini table extensions? This seems to be a serious issue that very much deserves defending... Especially now that mysql.org is down (was Gemini source every available there?), it's important we don't forget what they are doing, and that we remain in an uproar, as we always are when evil companies violate the GPL. Can anyone offer any news on this?
Many people seem to be ignoring that the offer of unlimited support from Redhat is considerable. They are basically donating their support services for nothing in return. It is a really wonderful gesture, regardless of whether it is "combating Microsoft" or anything like that. I must applaud them for the announcement.
Now, if only Redhat would support Debian instead of their own software, they'd really be great.;-)
You're an idiot--of course the taxpayers should be footing the bill--we're the ones who (for the most part) download, use, and depend upon this software without even contributing back to it! The least we can do is pay for the bandwidth! Sheesh!
And of course you are forgetting many of the generous commercial hosts, not to mention all of the foreign servers. People have made PLENTY of money off of open-source software to warrant paying for the bandwidth... EMYL,
IBM's been putting so much money and development into Linux lately, why wouldn't they use that as their low-to-mid-range server solution? It's only natural, and also the place where Linux is being used the msot right now... Not to mention the price, I'm sure it would offer some advantages to Novel (not to say Novel wouldn't have advantages, but it's pretty pricey in comparison). EMYL,
I encourage you all to email this guy and tell him what a stupid decision this is, both for Canada, and the world at large. Visit his page and say that Canadians don't -want- Microsoft there--they will only suffer as a result. EMYL,
From the BeIA FAQ at http://www.be.com/products/beiafaq.html
"Why shouldn't I use open source software for my appliance project? If time to market is a critical consideration for an Internet appliance project, BeIA makes far more sense than using open source software. Also note that open source licensing conditions often require the release of improvements to the community as a whole-in other words, to one's competitors."
These people are -still- just trying to make money off of their efforts--capital, profit, that's all they care about, it's disgusting! They try to make end-users like us appriciate them by releasing BeOS for free, but in fact BeOS never would have had a chance at it's current price and they know it. I'm not saying it's a bad OS at all, but their corporate execs need to get their heads out of their asses. EMYL,
Granted I'm still a wee 2nd-year physics student, but this sounds a little far-fetched to me. I would be most glad to see it become a reality. I recall hearing one experiment in which allegedly a binary version of Mozart's 40th was sent faster than light and was thoroughly impressed, however I've been unable to find any additional information. Is anyone else actually knowledgable in this area? EMYL,
That's right, Palmer Robinson's position is up for election in 2000. How many readers actually are in Washington? I'm sure we will be able to vote his sorry butt out of pubic office for good, since he has no place being there. Hope everyone from Washington (in King County, hehe) will make it to the polls! EMYL,

This was actually the original premise proposed by Feynman way back 30 years ago or so. I forget the analogy he used at the moment (it was rather amusing to think about), but it is in a paper somewhere at http://www.foresight.org from a lecture he gave on the subject. EMYL,
If you completely open up the ideas, get NEW ideas from other people, and release it under some type of appropriate _public_ license, then you will find many people willing to help develop the technology away from all that capitalist nonsense. This is truely the best option, and the way of the future. EMYL,
I may be a bit biased, since I'm a WinCE developer at work, but how can one defend the PalmOS? Both, being commercial operating systems, are to be faught against, not just one because it's from the evil Microsoft. And besides, the comment above is very true, that Palm devices are *way* too expensive! I can get way more functionality from a 4M $199 Casio E10 than I can from a Palm X or whatever they're calling them... And those sell for what, $500 or more? I think we should all be focusing on a FREE/OSS realtime-OS development effort (of which I know there are a few), and not this stupid "palm will kill wince" nonsense. Palm isn't going to kill WinCE, they've stayed the same for years. The only way to kill WinCE is to make something better, which means free, small, and fast.
Yeah, that is cheap, but why is he giving it to a _private_ school? They're certainly not running low on money! He should find some other decent (public) school to give it to, they need the money more. And a lot more of it! Oh well, gripe mode off.
This is "microtechnology" or whatever you call top-down construction. Nanotechnology implies creation from the bottom-up (the atoms are combined instead of removed). Sorry, folks.
How can people say this? We defend the KKK's right to hate others and spread this message to their children and others, and yet someone puts down some idiot in a stupid *capitalist* company and they need to be sued! This is just wrong people. I don't give a DAMN what the laws are, it is NOT RIGHT.

This is something I would very much like to do, not for me, since I'm already investing a lot, and I'm fine with that, but I simply can't afford to invest any more, and my service is very slow. You will see that it is a classical MP3 service, and I have asked some of these online CD stores with ad deals if they would consider hosting the site or something, and they have been...less than responsive. I mean, I just don't believe I will find a lot of advertisers wanting to be on an MP3 site (I definately try to distinguish myself from the average k-lame mp3 sites with the porn ads and popular music). My biggest problem is I need more bandwidth, I'm running off a 256k dsl line, which causes many complaints about speed, user limits, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Did anyone read any of the comments the novice ZDNet readers posted? I found it most disturbing. Mostly ignorant Windows users reminding us that we're all losers, and we should just deal with it, because of how great Windows is. One moron even said to buy a Mac.. Heh. I wonder if MacOS has such a clause? Of course, you never have go agree to an EULA with them... Still, that would rule. Apple's worse than MS in the OS-forcing arena.
