ummm bro, we are talking about games here.. They are all inefficient wastes of time:-)
Side Note: I played WoW after getting sucked in by a buddy, this was when WoW was at like 200,000 peeps, yea old school. I enjoyed the novelty of having complete control over a character, running round an almost endless environment and every aspect from simply feeding my character to killing boars;-) (it wore off after level 4!). But alas, leveling my characters up, getting uber gear etc... the time investment increased and increased and increased. When you "NEED" to devout as much time each week to a game as a fulltime job, you gotta step back and reevaluate your priorities. I quit and i'm not looking back. I think i'll start reading books, perhaps learn something in RL instead of the stats on an Epic drop:-P
Cheers
How the hell did you get this comment in at the #2 spot for this article... i'm kinda amazed.. kinda dumbfounded... Did you have this already typed? Are you spying in the Slashdot office!!! SPY!!!
Without looking it back up, I'm fairly sure EP2 will not require DX10 (that's financial suicide), but will be coded to run it natively. Meaning EP2 will run on DX9.x on XP machines also. Two totally different engines, but both included for gameplay.
disclaimer: I read this post rated as 5 and thought it was the worst thought process ever... so here is my reaction Ever say "I wish he were dead", or "he makes me so angry I want to kill him"? Of course you have. Everyone has. This game is the digital manifestation of those thoughts.
I can honestly say... since I turned probably, [thinking]carry the 2...[/thinking] 17 i've never sincerely wished death upon anyone (not including evil doers and those guilty of mass genocide etc.) Call me soft, yet I think once you lose someone you know/care about it changes everything by rocking you out of your childhood mentality of wishing death willy nilly. I don't play games with gore etc in this sense It's a video game. It is designed to be a playground for your little black beast My intent is to enjoy a game, kill a bad guy, and pwn some poor bastard with my Five-Seven across the map. No little black beast is present, just enjoying a challenge.
And one last thing about this line: The first step anyone takes to becomming a murderer in real life is not being able to tell the difference between reality and fantasy Ever heard of a "Crime of passion", or ever read the paper on how other people are murdered? i'd guestimate that 95% of "murderers" were not confusing reality and fantasy, they were being f'n retarded and made a bad decision on top of a bad decision. The other 5% yea ok the kid was confused.
I cry when I look at the state of PC gaming. Gone are the days when the "art" of creating a game and the passion developing it trumped timelines and budgets...
That said, is there another reason we are seeing this delay? Specifically on the PC side... Direct X 10 is here, and as i've read Episode 2 will use it... perhaps they are waiting for a few million gamers to swap over to Vista in order to enjoy the better eye candy... Just a thought.
"Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!" What are they going name this new SuperMaterial?? Sorry, I couldn't resist
Well that's the funny thing, Micrsoft didn't "reinvent the wheel" as you mentioned. They had the opportunity to do so early in development when they were going to transition the OS to being built with WinFS included... but we saw what happened there... Had they pulled through with WinFS, I think this convo takes a totally different tone. O-well, we'll wait another 7+ years.
btw if you call me a MS fanboy I will take your mother out to dinner... And never call her again!
The "Vista" we see now is a step for Microsoft. Let's look at them for just a minute not as "corporate jerkoffs" but as the "special kid" in the class.
A sampling on what that hard spent development cash was good for:
-UAC: at least they took a clue from the rest of the community by utilizing the principal of a strong user / non-admin account.
-New IE7: Time will tell, but the new feature of running in a low-rights mode in zones other than "Trusted" is another step forward.
-Firewall upgrade: Incoming AND outgoing! Finally they grasp the concept... Plus the stronger grp policy tools for it.
Is something better than nothing? I suppose. Are people purchasing this "freshmeat OS" simply morons? I suppose. In the end is it still far too early to render final judgement? Yes.
From my understanding, the license provided for your XP OS with that machine was limited for that "machine" only. With that specific license for that machine; a significant change in internal hardware changes the "machine" and voids your license terms. Check the good 'ol Readme or Eula with the machine paperwork, it's in there. It's the same way with most consumer PCs now-a-days, HP, Gateway, etc. Sorry, lol, build your own damn machine!:-)
I'm suprised no one else has mentioned this. WORLD OF WARCRAFT~@~#$%
Blizzard has routinely banned accounts due to "real-money for in-game gold transfers" and many other things. There are articles that put the number in the tens of thousands of accounts banned for activity out of game such as this. Do I agree with what they do... well I no longer care, I recently freed myself from the game... for a second time, this time is for good I swear, I even uninstalled:-). I finally realized that MMOs will always be "Just a game", and my time is much better spent elsewhere, with people, in RL.
If this guy has gone to the point where he hacks outside of game for ingame intelligence... perhaps he too should uninstall..
a quick google search http://www.360dailynews.com/index.php?page=news/fu llstory.php&indid=607
The site quotes from CES so I suppose it's real. Though I wonder how the hell the managed to pull that off... I mean with patching and everything else... I don't know if i'm stunned, amazed, in disbelief or a combo of all three...
Microsoft being cool, creative and adding features for gaming/gamers in general... Someone pinch me.
So you are saying that you do not think the law is a good one etc etc...I ask you how in the redneck is this bill enforceable? If my imaginary kid signsup on MySpace without my permission, MySpace is responsible for the 12yr old kid saying 21 on the little form?? Purely a political stunt for his re-election year.
Did I mention I very much dislike politicians not using common sense to serve their constituents? Perhaps he could create a bill addressing Global Warming (Climate Change, I don't care) and pollution controlls that Bush has destroyed... Ok WHY IS THIS ON SLASHDOT!!!!
As a Verizon Wireless customer this is something I will likely never say again to them... THANK YOU.
It's not that I do not like "options" and "trendy things"...But I am glad Verizon looked at what was put in front of them, recognized the one-sidedness (according to the article) of the deal and told Apple to piss off. I'm sure that Cingular (AT@T, w/e) was bent over the table in their deal with Apple... That said, I hope that having been reject by Verizon previously, Apple's demands that will inevitably hit the consumer in the wallet were somewhat reduced.
30-35K is just a drop in the bucket for these companies. Unless that penalty is changed I believe a dangerous precedent has been established. Giving companies a one-time slap on the wrist for their first offense is useless.
We need see a proliferation of these lawsuits against companies knowingly engaging in this type of advertising practice. Increase the damages to the millions of dollars and then watch the large corporates perk up their ears...
Now only if the AG made a case against some spammers...
True they will get your SSN when you get the job. But he is referring to the application process before landing that job... If you apply to 3 companies the problem becomes where has my info been parked and how secure is it?
A compromised license number coupled with other data (perhaps home address etc) add pieces to the puzzle of a person's identity. The more pieces of data an unscrupulous person obtains, the greater threat it becomes.
FYI, your license number might be your SSN (This is the case for old licenses in MA, I do believe when you renew now you are forced to take a State number.) Just some food for thought...
That was the first thing I noticed as well.
But then I asked myself... [self] If you built this room, would you honestly expect "To go where no man has gone before!" with a chick... [/self] So I quickly established his reasoning as being completely self centered or terribly short sighted.
Additional small game "episodes" would not be such a bad idea IF they did not charge such a significant amount of cash. I'm not paying $20 a pop each time an addon comes out that will occupy me for maybe 6 hours of gameplay. Make it more attractive on the pricing end and I might not be so zealously opposed to the idea.
Horray for job security!!! Finally something to feed those intent on slashing budgets in the name of "fiscal priorities".
I am happy.

Zzzing! crazy Canadians. It's just the way of the world these days.
There will always be death and taxes; however, death doesn't get worse every year.
Without looking it back up, I'm fairly sure EP2 will not require DX10 (that's financial suicide), but will be coded to run it natively. Meaning EP2 will run on DX9.x on XP machines also. Two totally different engines, but both included for gameplay.

First off, Rofl. Secondly, You sir, are the man... and quite possibly a genius.
Something i've had since High School, White toast with peanut butter and a glass of OJ. Decades later, still good :-)
lol awsome. My problem is that "15 minutes" turns into "Oh shit... 12:30pm... guess i'm calling in sick."

I give these researchers 3 cheers, and hope their work will contribute to the greater good. If only the entire healthcare field was so centered.....
