Why are you calling me a liar? I didn't force you to buy a computer loaded down with crap. I keep seeing posts like yours, too, so I guess you are a liar, too.
I installed Windows 7 on my 7-year-old laptop and it runs even better than with XP. I don't get Aero but most of that is just eye candy. I can do almost everything else.
Why upgrade? 1. Runs better on old hardware. 2. Better security model. 3. Better interfaces. 4. Not a decade old.
PS Try actually using 7 before you bash it and sound completely ignorant.
Already forgotten about Google getting charged with defamation in France? A man was convicted of rape but under French law is presumed innocent until the appeal says otherwise but a search for the man's name on google connects him to the alleged rape. It isn't exactly the same but it seems to me to be along the same lines.
If I wanted, I could get AT&T Uverse internet and get the same 12Mbs down for $48/month + tax. That comes out to slightly less than what you pay. What's funny is I can only get 3Mbps via regular DSL. On the other side of the highway I got 6Mbps for $45/month and $15/month of that went to the phone line.
The presenters you've seen are doing it wrong. The presenter must put important information on the slides but it is still up to the audience to fill in the gaps with notes. I love the 3 slides/page handout because it comes with a handy note-taking area next to each slide.
I've not experienced this but some of the bigger telephoto lenses have the option to ignore foreground objects. If you focus on something, it won't try to refocus on something much closer. If I was your dad, I'd turn off autofocus to get a good focus and then turn it back on.
The main law is the National Labor Relations Act. It spells out what employers and unions can and can't do. The company I work for is a non-union shop and is talks to be bought be a union shop so flyers about unions are all over the place.
I never understood the feelings for the companion cube. When I got to that part, I used the cube and threw it away when I was done. It seemed like a small and trivial part oftge game. The turrets on the other hand creeped me out and then were just funny.
It shouldn't have been awkward. You should have simply told the VP you were making some changes and left it at that. It is interesting feeling talking to someone you know is about to be gone but that's it. There is no good reason to lose respect for HR for doing their job. The only ding against HR is for not telling you what to do in case you do see the VP.
He wasn't ahead of most students. 10 years ago in High School, I had unfiltered access at home and so did almost everyone I knew. The only people that didn't were dirt poor.
The holes are placed not just to allow a certain amount of air but to also direct its flow. You've screwed up your case's airflow by leaving the bays open like that.
Funny thing, my manager complained to me the other day about customers chewing him out over items in the lost and found box. They were super pissed that he dared to touch them rather than leave them alone to be stolen with no possibility of return. One even accused the employees of stealing the headphones from the iPod Shuffle he had left behind. Yes, just the headphones.
Where I used to work we had an electric forklift. Changing the battery basically required two other forklifts. One to provide smooth surface(the top of the forks) on which to slide the battery and the other to push the battery out of the forklift. When a battery weighs 1.5 tons, that's what you have to do.
The point is to make the image as large as possible. Sometimes the goal is the reason. I doubt they said,"Let's make an image that we can distribute with Silverlight." they probably chose Silverlight because it allows you to see the entire image without having to actually download the entire image all at once.
If XP was using the wrong drivers, that's another win for 7. Windows 7 will pick better drivers for your hardware. Why choose XP again?

Sadly, I have seen ads very similar to what you describe.
You should know this if you're here but I should remind you that bluescreens are usually a sign of hardware problems.

MY mid-range laptop cost $1200 in 2003. I'd be happy with a laptop that cost half that today.
You hit the nail on the head about PDFs.

"The deal is, that's where the US gets its power from. The US has no heavy industry, agriculture, mining, or any other significant export."
I think you mean "had." The US currently has all of those things.

I'm pretty sure there was an article recently about how very few incoming freshmen had Linux.

Even worse is when they tell you they will use an expensive book for 2 or 3 semesters and then change books after the first semester.
Considering that cars are bigger and weigh more than in the '80s, any increase in mpg is pretty good.
Moore's Law describes increases in computing power, it does not proscribe it.
Bouncing a check isn't the same thing. That is more like lying about how much money you have.
