When your kids are in college (Yes, I know they allow High School now, and maybe even younger) I'm pretty sure your adblock isn't going to reach all the way to the college campus. I suggest teaching responsible computing, not taking the same path the schools are (Blocking everything they don't understand: EX, Wikipedia).
I think it would be a lot more interesting to see a review between Leopard and Gutsy Gibbon.
I am using this on Ubuntu 7.10 which I installed yesterday (previously a Gentoo user) and I love it. I have never experienced having my video card, printer, wireless card, and sound card all work. Not to mention importing my entire iPod in a few clicks and being able to play all my music in another few clicks. It's a very Mac like experience and that's why I want to see a solid review (not the usual reviews that end up on/.) between OS X and GG.
I remember hearing that this version of Ubuntu would always put you into a Desktop with the VESA driver if no other drivers worked.
I'm stuck with the VESA driver because my ATI Radeon 9200 PCI has never been able to work in Linux for me. FGLRX hasn't helped at all.
I use the rt2570 (usb) and on Gentoo it was as simple as emerge rt2570 but I've found in the majority of other distros it's a pain to get it working. Right now my I can only use wireless on my computer so unless it's really easy for me to get my wireless card working (out of the box support would be nice) then I'm not even going to bother trying it.
People love to make Gentoo jokes.
I started using Linux when I was 14. My first distro, Gentoo.
It's NOT hard to install, it DOESN'T take 2 weeks to compile packages.
Please, Slashdot, before making any more Gentoo jokes, try it out for yourself. I can get Gentoo installed in under an hour. And guess what, do I sit around watching KDE compile? No! There's times when I don't have to be on the computer, seriously.
I just thought about it. My conclusion? Not many. "He repairs discarded computers and gives them to people who otherwise could not afford one." Seems like that means that he's really not diverting that many sales because the people that are taking these computers wouldn't have got one anyway. I'm not saying what he's doing isn't great, but I doubt it's a thorn in Microsoft's foot.
Is this any different than what Apple has always done? They want their hardware to work with their software. Only their hardware and their software. I can somewhat see the business aspect side of this (though not really). If Linux on iPod becomes pretty good (which last time I used it, it wasn't) it can offer free games (it already does), more music formats, etc. All of which takes away from the iTunes store. All in all I don't think it will really matter. For some reason people REALLY want to put Linux on their iPod (don't ask me why) and eventually there will be Linux on the iPod.
Since my switch to Linux I avoid the majority of Flash sites like the plague. It is almost impossible for me to even exit out of a page with flash on it because of how much it slows down my computer. If Google goes this route they damn well better have something compatible with Linux or they are going to be losing a lot of users.

I haven't noticed anything not working. Of course, I don't actually remember if I bough any music.
My iPod worked all out of the box. And I like Amarok better than iTunes now.

But how could we buy the spice?

It's never good to get the coppers angry.

I know I'm exerting my rights online by tagging kdawsonisanidiot. Does that count? :)
If I had mod points I would use every single one on modding you Insightful. I'm not kidding.
OpenOffice?
is because somebody removed him from their top 8. :)

I for one would have welcomed your new ant overlords.
The "News for Nerds" part seems relevant. It's that "Stuff that Matters" part that's the problem.
I've said it before and got modded down. But I'll say it again (and get modded down).
Was anybody surprised Kdawson posted this? Seriously, anybody.
Was anybody actually surprised when they saw kdawson submitted this article?
Seriously, anybody.
Actually, the root is terrere.
I'm not holding my breath for this one, I learned my lesson from The Phantom .
It's so nice to have a big picture of Hayden Christiansen on this lightsaber, the old lightsaber was just boring.
Good thing I have Comcast, now I don't have to worry about making ANY files available with bittorrent.
Star Wars Fans: We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life.
