    I'm not sure if ethnocentric is the right word. "American" is not an ethnicity. It's cultural.

    It would seem to me that the government and groups of people within it, is divided against itself. Many of the President's closest advisors are wildly Globalistic. WTO, UN, NATO, this list goes on. Then there are the nationalists, like members of Congress, most of the military, and people in FBI,NSA, etc who work to benefit Americans.

    Gathering intellegence on a foreign state is definately acceptable. Remember, treaties are temporary (we were Stalin's allies at one point).
    Gathering intelligence on corporations, well, that's questionable. Companies like COSCO,Lippo Group which are fronts for the Chinese Red Army would be more acceptable.

    Very interesting statement you make. This is true. So why should an uninformed, lazy SOB get to affect my life?

    Not to pick nits. But only implies one. In most states, they vary slightly, The criteria to vote are, US Citizen, 18+ years of age, and not a convicted felon, and not been declared incompetant.

    From the FEC.GOV site, "Since most residents of rural America had to travel a significant distance to the county seat in order to vote, Monday was not considered reasonable since many people would need to begin travel on Sunday. This would, of course, have conflicted with Church services and Sunday worship. "
    Dont tell me you are over burdened and cannot go vote. People were travelling for days to vote. Look at voting in Africa and Eastern Europe. Those lines stretch for MILES.... MILES...

    Careful when you use the Greenpeace site for anything more than hysteria. Many of their articles have uncited references, and seem to be very sensationalized.
    Their Arctic story is one of them. I have many friends who are involved in the "other" side of their debate. The facts they give out on the situation do not jive with what has happened up here.

    since when is laziness not a desirable trait in a voter? Laziness is not a desirable trait in surgeons, police officers, fire-fighters, etc.... You'll have a hard time convincing anyone laziness is a virtue.

    Going out on a limb here. If you are too lazy to go and vote, one can assume you are too lazy to follow the issues, and make an informed decision.
    Why should some jack-hole negate my well researched, carefully determined vote by blindly pulling a lever?

    Same reason holds true for the minimum age to vote. Why 21 then 18? Why not 6? Because most kids and teens don't care. (many do, i was one, but those are the exception).

    You're definately on the right track here, but let me guide you back on course.....
    The Amendments to the Constitution, and the Constituion in general is for limiting the powers of the Federal government. Look at the 10th amendment for proof. The text of the Declaration of Independance (which most of the Constitutional delegates also signed) says, "...that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." Because it is an amendment, does not make it so.
    To the gun thing....in the next sentance or two after the unalienable thing is this: "...that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." So to the gun-control advocates I say this... If a goverment cannot trust is citizens to be armed, why must the citizen trust the goverment? The Framers knew that personal possession of firearms was *critical* to any people being able to keep their government in check. Hell, when Redcoats are facing you with muskets, all the name calling and rock throwing won't get them to listen to you.

    Why dont we step back a bit and analyze this....
    lazy people shouldn't vote ->a few steps-> white male only voters.
    Where did this come from? Who is making the sweeping generalizations?

    If anything, move Election Day onto a weekend. Let people go when they arent working. (Obviously you can't solve everyone's problem).
    Realistically, if someone can't take the 30 minutes it takes to go to the ballot box, and is too lazy to go to the Post Office or Library to fill out a Absentee Ballot form, they shouldn't vote. Is it that hard?

    Why not hook the serial port into a terminal server port? Then *log into it* like everyone else does.
    That would make more sense than telnetting in, which would imply that you have some thing more than a booting system.

    The Atari Jaguar still has things in development? I bought one when it first came out, (1994 I guess). I think I had five games total, and was totally disgusted with the amount of games available.

    Although Tempest 2000 was the best game ever. I remember Kay-Bee Toy Store was selling new jaguars for $35 bucks, with any game of your choice. I should I have bought one then.

    It's 26K if you make the mistake of living there. As a matter of fact, if would've stayed at DU, I'd be graduating in May.
    That school left a definate bad taste in my mouth, the only redeeming quality is the co-op program, which allowed to get some schweet jobs and get out of there.

    No. At a private school, you are still only paying a small fraction of the cost it takes to run the school. Where I went (Drexel U), my 17K x 3500 students didnt go too far.

    Hey...Dont forget taht the President of the school lives on the Main Line in a University owned house, drives University leased cars, goes on trips everywhere but to campus. etc....

    Seriously though, running a large school takes alot of money (physical plant, salaries etc). What you kick-in doesnt cover it all.

    Dude, no way.
    By far the best cereal was "Halfsies". In the early 80s (83) I actually won something out of the box.

    A fullsize Sega Star Trek arcade machine.
    It came with a vector graphics monitor, and digitized spock voice. It was shipped to us broken, my dad managed to get it working again. Man, that was really a hit at my 8th birthday party!!!!

    There is a dialation of time based on height? For example, time is "slower" on the 100th floor vs the ground floor. Over the distance of the satellite's orbit it could over time be off by a measureable amount. There is a book about this called "God's Equations" i believe that does the proof for that.

    It takes 9 million dollars to rent office space to set up a "command-center" for the use of the new "cyber-czar" which I guarantee will be nominated.
    My guesses for "cyber-czar":
    • Major campaign contributor
    • Al Gore, he invented the damned thing, you'd think he'd be #1 choice.
    • That Wen-Ho-Lee guy. He's an expert on computer security. Like letting his daughter play MUDs on a supercomputer.

    But!... they are getting married in person, and at least these people met In Real Life(R).
    I guess it's more of a PR thing.
    I heard of people getting cyber-married at the-park.com before. That is nauseating. To spend that much time in a chat-room is bad.

    I can honestly say, that on the *four* PCs I use on a regular basis (98, and 3NTs with different service packs), my installations are remarkably stable.
    The uptime on the machine I'm sitting at now, it frankly remarkable for NT workstation. (That's with 80 mb ram, dual video cards, WinAMP constantly running, VB session, multiple AspenTech GCS/DD sessions, and terminal sessions open). It's been online and running and being used daily for 12+ hours for at least three weeks. And I have multiple IE 5.x instances.

    Despite my satisfaction with IE, I will give Mozilla a try.

    In all my experience with IE, especially with 4 & 5, it has been solid.
    It's quick, hardly *ever* goes down, and if it does, just kill the process.

    Netscape, in my book, took a crap with their first release of Communicator 4.0. They tried to add too much functionality in a catch up game with MS.
