    I don't see a problem with including a chip fabricator in there. It's the design and testing of semiconductors that's tricky to do, AFAIK the actual manufacture is pretty trivial.

    I would interpret a website that has 30 seperate instances of flash objects on it a hell of a lot more "flash heavy" then a website with 1 fullscreen flash object. Especially since the former can potentially reduce my computer to a dead crawl while the latter I'm able to happily run through.

    It's actually the other way around, 98% of lawyers ARE decent people. 2% are dirty evil rats who want to screw everyone as hard as they can, we just hear about them more because guess which type of lawyer most big litigation happy corporations are interested in hiring.

    On the other hand when a cop sees someone commit a crime he can arrest him on the spot, all a CCTV camera can do is watch, unless of course the person happens to be wearing something that obscures his face or a headband studded with IR LEDs. In which case your camera is useless. Furthermore you can put a hell of alot more then just 1 cop on the street for the price of a 1000 cameras.

    I think the reason is that the iPhone includes a big touch screen, a GPS radio and a compass so is particularly well suited to AR applications. There is also only 1 model and it's userbase is growing everyday so it's particularly tempting to target when developing applications.

    Linux is only popular because of the GPL.

    That's a pretty stupid statement don't you think? I (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) use Linux because it WORKS and does what I want it to in the situations that I apply it to. I also use Windows 7, Windows Server, Apache, Python, Java, Opera and piles of other products under just about every license under the sun. And you know what? I don't give a rats ass about the license so long as it doesn't hinder me they can shove it under any license they want.

    I'd be interested to know how you can 'de-fund' a soup kitchen the majority of the ones I've seen are run by private charities and not the government.

    This is such a hilarious statement that it's not even funny, of course all the soup kitchens are run on private donations and funds. Because that's the only way they CAN run, the government is not interested in helping soup kitchens they have allocated no funds towards supporting them therefore if you want to help out the poor you have to do it privately. Therefore what are all soup kitchens? They're all underfunded and have no way to even come close to meeting the demand.

    Can't be cured? by soldering iron and some spare copper cabling would beg to differ, if the book says there's supposed to be a connection between that thingamajigger and that watchamacallit then I can bloody well put a connection there. I'll even do it for way less then any psychiatrist or neurosurgeon would charge for a cure.

    You could get the water on it's return trip to the ocean after it's been through the waste treatment plant, treated sewer water on one side and the salty waste on the other. Of course you'll still run at a net loss (damn you thermodynamics!) but it could still be better then nothing.

    If we really do suffer a complete and total failure of society to the point where the caretakers of the large stockpiles of gold can get away with claiming ownership of it then the gold will be worthless anyways and of no value anyways. Gold buying is there to help insure against recessions or the collapse of one or more economies/currencies.

    BTW If society does collapse I'm coming to live with you and your pile of corn :)

    Investing in gold is the same as buying gold, that little piece of paper says that you own X oz of gold. Good luck actually getting your hands on the gold but why would you want to anyways? It'll be much more safe and secure in the vault with all the other bars of gold.
