Western business ethic? Try another one! Don't you know how England and France protected and sponsored pirates in the 1600s? Or how the British manipulated the Middle-East and India to their benefit, or how they brutally dominanted Africa? Or how about King Leopold of Belgium's brutal dealings in the Congo? How about the USA's multinationals in Central and South America? Haven't you heard of 'Open Veins of Latin America' by Eduardo Galeano? This book describes how 'Western Business Ethics' worked in the region. "Western Business Ethics" is a fantasy.
There is no original invention. Nobody comes up with something totally new. Take music: all popular music uses the pentatonic system put down by Mr. Bach. Shouldn't we pay royalties to his descendents??
The median income in Brazil is circa US$8,000 (PPP), but in the south and southeast, where most of the population is concentrated, it is actually US$10,000 to US$15,000. The problem is that in the Amazon and northeast it is closer to US$2,000. So yes, there are loads of people who can afford it, as there are loads of people currently buying US$500-US$1500 desktops.
The law is a joke in Brazil. According to the same constitution:
Article 19. The Union, the States, the Federal District and the municipalities are forbidden to:... III - create distinctions between Brazilians or preferences favouring some.
Yet we have quotas for afro-brazilians in universities and the public service. We also have laws (in the constitution) that forbid cumulative taxes yet we tax company earnings (not profit!) 3 times!
If I were the boss, I'd use this test and pick the candidates that replied with a 'why would I write such a thing, if there are plenty of open source implementations?' or 'it would be a lot easier in Perl'.
These extrapolations are silly. Has there ever been a stock (or any other investment) that gained ~2.9% (inflation discounted, of course) every day for a full year?
...and I firmly believe that the only ownership one can have is physical ownership of a good
There is also land, business and buildings. I think they all require different kinds of ownership. Should someone be allowed to sit on their land while people starve? Should someone be allowed to close a factory when people don't have jobs? Its all very different from owning goods.
But people still view all kinds of property as one.
That's true for humans as well (actually I've heard that only Sharks don't have cancer). If everyone lived to 100, everyone would have some kind of cancer. Rats are smaller, so their metabolism is faster, therefore their lifespan is shorter and they get cancer faster. Even if we didn't have hormones (and they are good at promoting cancer), our environment is still very hostile, and even oxigen causes a lot of damage to our cells. On the other hand, if our environment weren't so hostile, or dynamic, life would probably not have evolved. So the conclusion is that life causes cancer.
...the media does not put out stories about suicide because apparently it gives ideas to people with depression. There is no legislation, it is just an industry agreement.
These ready-to-eat-at-any-moment solutions are just terrible. They always come with lots of plastic, tin-foil, etc. They shouldn't really be used in everyday life, but, because people are leading such frantic lives, working a lot and consuming way too much, they end up generating a lot of rubbish! If you go to McDonald's, your food could weigh less than all the plastic and paper that comes along with it! It's insane!
So chinese and korean bigots consider themselves equal to americans, whose bigots, on the other hand, consider themselves superior to the rest of humanity.
I don't think it is childish at all and the way americans are treated in Brazil is a lot better than the way latin americans are treated in the US.
No american citizens are been stripped down and interrogated for hours and then get sent back even though they have valid visas. There have been reports of Brazilians having their luggage robbed by american airport security guards.
The US not only has an arbitrary (not to say racist) security policy, but those that enforce it also seem biased and behave arbitrarily.
They would have a chance if anglos would stop bothering them.
First it was the british, now it's the americans. And they are not too stable themselves: put Saddam in power, take him down, push them into war with Iran, punish them for war with Kuwait.
Just the other day Hollywood was making films about the 'Freedom Fighters' of Afghanistan, now the Taliban are Fundamentalist Terrorists.
It is about time the 1st world recognised that in pursuing its interests so recklessly and violently it is promoting instabilty.
If I was poor and getting bombed with ultramodern american toys, I might fancy getting fundamentalist myself.
Windows people get a complete system out of the box
They get a what??
Any Linux distribution comes with various compilers, script languages (perl, python, etc), shells, viewers (ps, pdf, images, etc), editors (vi, emacs, pico, etc), mp3 players, lots of networking tools, libraries, wordprocessors, spreadsheets, etc, etc, etc...
Is that Brazilian over-50s or over-50s in general?

Copyright should be granted for eternity and Bach's descendents should receive royalties for all songs based on the pentatonic system.

I'm more worried about the ilicit use of kitchen knives
I meant it as a hyperbole, not literally. Maybe it wasn't obvious enough...

Of course, more advanced nations have no trouble whatsoever in keeping track of all their mammal population: One dog, one vote
And when they die, americans can start enjoying all the money theyve accumulated.
Life is not all about money.

I wonder how much of this research Nestle

The source of financing should go right between the title and the abstract on all papers.

What can you do with only Windows installed??
Everybody makes mistakes.
Yours might cost you hundreds, maybe thousands;
Larrys cost hundreds of millions.
Whos going to sleep worrying about the mortgage?
Recent? How many years of peace has
the US had since WWII?
If those countries are so terrible,
why do you keep selling them weapons??
Who sold Saddam chemical and biological weapons?
The US insists on a monopoly on WMD technology
not for the safety of the world, but for
its own economic interests and to maintain
its power.
