The actions of the RIAA are becoming increasingly desperate in my opinion. Taking a look at the utter failure of suing individuals for infringement, they are turning to these organizations where they can use pressure from the public to get their way.
Its time for the rest of the universities to step up and put and end to this extortion.
After their acquisition of VIA and then later ATI, they have established themselves in a larger market than simply performance graphics chips for end users. Heck, every Nintendo product since the gamecube has used ATI hardware.
The last line of that summary is clearly flamebait.
According to the 01 US Census, there were only 43,639 home's with internet connections. Safely assuming that has tripled over the last seven years, thats about 130,000 homes.
So, 3.7 billion divided by 130,000 = 28,461.54
Im supposed to believe that every internet user in the US has stolen equivalent of 28,000 dollars worth of music? Please. Lets be realistic.
Ive sat here and tossed around all the game I can remember playing over the years, and the ones worth the time all equate one pc with one player.
Consoles are the king of multi user gaming hands down. Like suggested above, nab an old console. PS 1 or Nintendo 64 or such should be had for under 75 USD with several games.
No offense dude, but most people probably dont want to be checking our your "junk".
Really, what is the paranoia of the human body? Who gives a shit if someone see's my penis, if its a guy they have one of similar design in their pants too...
Not a bad idea. If they are doing deep packet inspection to filter and slow traffic identified as peer to peer, are they not party responsible for the alleged infringment? I know if I offered a guy a ride in my car, then watched him shoot the person next to me, and continued to take him home, it would make me an accessory to murder
The situation in most places is unfortunately this: There is ONE cable company offering high speed access, and perhaps ONE dsl company that servers your next door neighbor but not you. Theres not enough competition yet, so these idiotic companies stay in business simply because they have a monopoly.
So, until that changes, theres no point in bitching and moaning every time some company admits to doing what we all know they are doing. You can always go back to dial-up...
We used to benchmark a computer by *gasp* actually running things on it. If you wanted to find out how well it would perform running a game, you played the damn game and found out. Course, thats not good enough for these ubernoobs who think they are cool with their benchmark scores on their forum signatures...
So how bout doing something about these Viagra 79% off October emails I get?
This is a case of two idiots who got caught by trying to operate as a legit business. I really cant see this impacting the volume of botnet, spam spewing compromised computers out there...

Ok, so my point is naught. Im going to go bury my head in the sand now and pretend that Im still smart.
Your right, my initial estimations were a bit low. But, I was basing that on the 2001 US Census.
According to http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm the current number is actually closer to 238,000.
Still, even that my point stands. $16,000 per internet user is a bit high.
Lets just think about that 3.7 billion.

both seem fitting.
Its as if thousands of bittorrent peers suddenly started connecting at once.
Simple and sweet. Its really the truth though.

Yes, if you aren't concerned that your multipurpose folding pliers tool thing only works one time before it needs to be discarded.
Please explain to me how water arrows are used to disable fluorescent lighting. I always knew it could be done somehow!
It cost them 2.6 million to get 3 ~90 minute training games made? Hot damn! I need to get me some government contracts.

... or does this summary scream "Throw more money at the problem"?
I mean, really. Perhaps ensuring the standards and procedures are actually adhered to would be a much cheaper and less drastic change.
Reminds me of some other situations. Windows 3.1 for instance :P
Anyways, just wanted to say I enjoyed your post. Don't have mod points, but it was quite insightful.
Hell, I'll bet they pay more in taxes than 8%. Oh wait.. the government pays them money.
Its not a conspiracy dude, its a few asshats with nothing better to do with their lives causing others problems.

Lets see them figure out how to access Microsoft Word without their fancy "Start" button.
Ok, please let me know how to accurately express one divided into three equally. I have been stuck using 1/3 far too long.
The Theory of Evolution is once again mistaken for Natural Selection of Advantageous Traits.
I hope they put it on their legal page. Would be quite hilarious having all 4000 pages available on their site.
