And those laws still would exist in a libertarian society, unless we all agreed to talk about a strawman (instead of actual libertarian ideals) when I wasn't looking.

Technically, no. Morally, yes. What most pirate apologists gloss over is that generally the analogy is meant as an appeal to have some fucking morals and not rip off artists creating stuff you like, not trying to claim that it's exactly the same.

Quite frankly, I don't give a damn what people want. People want many things which are retarded. If they refuse to use sense when making their technology purchases, that's hardly my problem as I'm not in the business of selling them things.

I use a netbook as a very portable general-purpose computer. Tablets (and especially the iPad) have more limited functionality in comparison. I don't care about size or battery life if I have to sacrifice real, actual function to get them. I mean, a calculator is tiny compared to an iPad and the battery lasts forever, but it doesn't do as much so it's inferior. Similarly, the iPad (and other tablets) are inferior to a netbook.

  13. Re:This also means... on 35% Consumers Want iPhone 5... Sight Unseen · · Score: 1

None of those things are functionality. Functionality is what it can do, not how big it is or how long the battery lasts.

There are several other tablets out there. Furthermore, netbooks offer superior functionality at a superior price. The iPad is pure fluff. Most tablets are, but the iPad makes it worse by being priced at such a high price point.

The "Apple is inferior" and "Apple over charges for making it pretty" chants are getting old. Nobody believes it anymore. The MacBook, the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad... they're competitive on price and superior in quality. People are buying Apple again and again because they like what they get.

In what parallel universe do you live that an iPad is more capable and cheaper than competing devices!? That thing is the biggest rip-off I've ever seen.

I did read the post. You said that because you think GUI has no place on the server, that it shouldn't be included. You're not bashing those who prefer GUIs, but you are calling for something that would result in less choice, not more.

Wrong. You develop a robust CLI and a robust GUI, and let people choose what to use according to their preference. The attitude on /. that you need to have one or the other is ridiculous. What on earth is wrong with recognizing that different people work differently, and giving them options??

  22. Re:Suck it up people on Why Netflix Had To Raise Its Prices · · Score: 1

Not the same thing. Netflix is charging people more for an existing service. Subscribers' choice is to pay $6, or give up Netflix (which is presumably valuable to them, else they wouldn't have been paying for it). That may be worth it to some (though not all, of course). What you're proposing gives me nothing to gain, which is the same as with Netflix... but nothing to lose, which is not the same.
