Yeah, but they would at least have the decency to make such a version of Windows free and charge money for a decent, clean, version of Windows. Just like it was before Windows 10. But no, such version is not available to mere mortals (I hear there's such a version if you're a volume license customer).
And yes, I use an Android phone but I also hate being limited in what I can do with my hardware. I'd pay money to get a clean version of Android (free of Google apps) where I could be officially be root without playing whack-a-mole with Google with the vulnerabilities that have allowed root so far.
Seeing the way things are going it may well happen what you're predicting: i.e.: PCs becoming as closed as smartphones. It will be, undoubtedly, promoted as a security improvement while we all know it's just about the money.
OTOH, ReactOS is a cool idea, and I think the team is doing a great job given the limited resources they have, but it would need a huge amount of work and hence, money to be a real replacement to Windows. Who will give such money?. Also, I'm completely sure that if would ever become a threat to Windows Microsoft would sue ReactOS out of existence.
want to lock you in in their software/services.
The smart thing to do would be to use open data formats so that your data is not hold ransom by one corporation. Alas, most non-techy people seem to ignore, or not care, about this.
Yes, but to be honest I actually meant a clean version of Windows. I use a lot of software, ok, let's be honest, games, that only work on Windows so I can't easily move to other OS.
Also, clean versions of Linux already exist.
Anyway, I doubt that's a priority to many people.
Yeah, I know about the LTSB version and it's obvious to anyone that knows a bit about computers that all those apps and bits aren't actually needed to run the OS. I'd actually be willing to pay for a clean version on Win 10 (well, I'd rather they change the UI also but that's another matter) but as you said they won't sell it to individuals.
Agree but because the system contains many things that are not necessary for it to work but you can't remove anyway. I don't need "Groove Music", or a maps app, or the Xbox app.
It'd be nice if we could get a barebones OS and the install things as needed. Yeah I know, I also use Linux and I love how you can install some minimal distros without even an UI.
I'm really tired of being mined for data by every website/app. It's like there isn't any other possible business model. There're some services (not everything) that I'd be happy to pay for if I could be sure they wouldn't harverst and sell data not necessary for its basic functioning. You know, like what software licensing used to be: You pay some money you get a product that does only what it's supposed to.
If you ask me Windows 10 is the opposite of listening to customers. They've made a lot of changes that no one wants (and in the OS and spying being just 2 examples).
Of course they pretend to listen, the same way Apple pretends to care about the planet as said in a recent story
Android was built so that Google could get even more personal data from you. I'd say it's worked pretty well because they now have lots of data from people who even don't use computers.
While that a legitimate (IMO) business model it's annoying since Google will logically push their services hard on Android devices and that's just what has been happening in the last few years in Android.
Also I wouldn't mind paying a license to use Android and then be able to use Android just like a PC, i.e.: Being able to uninstall everything Google and have root permissions to do whatever I please.
The future looks bad. It's even going the other way on PCs: Macs by default only let you install apps from the official store (just like a smartphone) and Microsoft is pushing the same thing on Windows 10.
Last time I checked the Google search bar couldn't be removed on the official Google launcher (whatever it's called). I think that's what people are referring to.
Btw, I don't know about other phones but the Samsung launcher doesn't have that limitation on my Galaxy s4.
It's the freaking insistence of using mobile UIs on desktops. They just don't belong there but the designers (or someone else, I don't care) keep pushing them.
I just want sensible interfaces back.
Yes, we're not super rich but if you've lived in Spain you surely have seen we aren't third-world poor.
Of course, I can't say if it'd be worthwhile for Spanchat to invest in Spain.
Spaniard here, maybe I shouldn't bother replying to an AC but...
Economy has been recovering for a few years now and unemployment rate steadily decreasing. We don't have a huge GDP per capita but we have a good standard of living, a high life expectancy and we've been within the top 30 in HDI for many years.
Regarless of the quality and success (I guess won't have much) they should really allow users to remap the button. That way it would be useful for everyone. Altough I wouldn't count on it since the trend lately seems to be not to let the user configure their devices much
Nope, it's a sealed battery again. This year even LG seems to have gone for the sealed battery. Alas, it seems removable batteries in flagship phones are a thing of the past. It seems most people don't care about removable batteries. I do and I don't know what I'll buy when my current phone dies.
Right on the money about the multiple UIs. First they forced a desktop UI on Windows Mobile and it sucked. Then they're forcing a mobile UI on desktop Windows and it sucks. Please Ms make totally separate UIs for touch and desktop usage I don't want to suffer touch optimized UIs on my PC.
It depends on the purpose of the application, performance requeriments, etc but I usually prefer websites to applications. On something like Netflix I certainly prefer a website. The greatest advantage is that it works everywhere there's a browser (a few pretty specific browsers in this case).
Anyway, what I really hate is things that could perfectly be delivered through the web to force you to access the content through an app only. I have to little free room on my phone I don't need an app for every website I could conceivably want to visit
Yep, I think it's impossible to design an UI that works well for both touch and mouse and that's why my proposal for this kinds of situations would be to make 2 different UIs, one for every input method and make them the best they can be for the input method. Microsoft clearly disagrees and so we get the lowest common denominator

As they want to ban prostitution, for the same reasons also

I'd prefer they'd improve the web app. That way it can be used anywhere and doesn't depend on Google porting their apps to your favourite OS
I'm really tired of being mined for data by every website/app. It's like there isn't any other possible business model. No matter how good Edge is it doesn't change the fact that you must be using Windows 10 to be able to run it...so it's out for me.
Regarless of the quality and success (I guess won't have much) they should really allow users to remap the button. That way it would be useful for everyone. Altough I wouldn't count on it since the trend lately seems to be not to let the user configure their devices much
You're surprised it's in consoles? hell, it's in PC ports of console games, as if unexpectedly powering off one's pc was something people usually did

Because of relativism and "all cultures are equal" bullshit. The western world is gonna kill itself by doing nothing
