I hear ya on this one. Reading these articles about the research into prosthetics make me think the future will not be so grim. I am in a similar situation as you. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my knees and can't walk so well. I'm also young like you (23). Looking at this research makes me think that maybe sometime in my life, it will be possible to have leg replacements that will be functional just like normal ones. Maybe give me the chance to ski again and all that jazz.

For the question you asked about when you would make the jump to robotic, for me it's a combination of how much mobility it will give me and how much pain it will relieve. Would adding this progress my arthritis to different parts of my body? Would I be able to heal properly, or would the attach location (hips) develop arthritis? Benefits would be no more constant pain, no more medication and possibly a return to a more normal functioning life.

Maybe some day it will come to people like us. This just brings it that much closer.

A problem with your point about going to concerts is that for the smaller band, them going on a tour for a new release can depend and usually does on the number of sales. If the sales are low, they might not have the backing to do a tour, or get stuck playing small venues If the record company can't tell by their number of sales how popular the band is, they might not even get another deal from the record company.

I keep reading all these articles about warming caused by this or not... Does it really matter? Making the air better quality and keeping the earth a much cleaner place overall will be a plus for everything, not just humans. It costs a lot of money, sure but I'm sure health care costs will drop from airway problems and the benifits for the environment will also be big. So humans MAY or "may not" be causing it, that doesn't matter. Keeping the earth clean should be the first thing to do.

  11. Re:DRM,Pricing, packaging; legal inferior to pirate on Music DRM in Critical Condition? · · Score: 1

As a independant musician, I can first hand tell you that no, we do not make most of the money made (which is very, very little) from playing live. It is from selling merch directly at the live shows. The price to play is usually very small, say 100 to play plus a door deal, or if you're more well known they might throw in some of the bar sales. However that is split between all the performers from ALL bands. So even 100 people come in at 10 a ticket, you're splitting that between all the acts that play that night with the headliners generally making more. Most money is made from the other stuff you sell that night and unless you're on a label, you've paid to press a disc, which is about 2-3 per disc and whatever else you have to sell. I hate to be the one to tell you, but you don't make that much money playing live, generally enough to cover expenses while you take time off work.

As someone who has rhumatoid arthritis and spends every minute of every day in pain, I would welcome such a device. There is no cure for RA and I'm already taking the current available treatments. Something like this would benifit many people in similar situations where there is nothing you can do except "live with it". I'd much rather be pain free and deal with the other issues with RA then deal with both and I'm more then sure there are lots of other people that would fully agree.

I know this all too well. I'm in chronic pain everyday from rhumatoid arthritis and it is very hard for me to get decent pain management. I'm also only 23 and don't dress up when I go in, so it is easy to mistake me for someone who is looking to abuse pain medication. I fight every month with my dr for proper management. The minimal relief I get is barely enough for me to want to keep living. Think of your pain but have it for 2 years with it only getting worse as time goes on. Canada is no better off then the US when it comes to proper pain management. Although it is the RCMP here but there are the same regulations on the stuff. There are some wild statistics regarding black market pain meds and the people who use them. Mostly people with chronic pain that can not get management else where and suicide rates amoung people suffering from pain. I believe the recent number is something like 70 million in the US suffer from some form of chronic pain and I'd bet only 4-5 million have any sort of management.

Only bigger cities have fido and their network is pretty limited to the city limits. Last I had a phone, only bell had good coverage when going outside of major cities. Maybe Rogers or other networks have expanded, but somehow I have a feeling bell is the only one to reach the smaller areas. Which would mean that you're limited to tellus/bell. Rogers and fido use the same network, so I'd guess that rogers is just as big as fido. Agian, I haven't had a cell in a few years (CDMA doesn't work well when going outside Canada and the GSM coverage isn't good enough for my average interprovince travels) so I may be mistaken.

Though I agree with your backwards justification, I also disagree with it. I have downloaded my fair share of stuff and I actually find myself purchasing more then I use to. For computer games, generally the demo's do them no justice or are way too over the top to get a good feel for the full game. Generally I will download them, play them and if I think the game was good I will purchase it. I have probably wasted about 2k on games I purchased from demo's alone that I wish I could return because it was absolute garbage, though the demo seemed to be promissing. For music, the particular genre I listen to (industrial) is not widely available and without downloading I would not know a lot of the artists I now support. With main stream music, at least you can find them in CD stores or get radio play, try getting a antzen CD in your local store or getting a preview of it if you've never heard of the new up comming artist. little indy places like this don't advertise much so it's hard. I always purchase anything I download I feel it was worth it or I want to support the cause. For the new NIN album, I heard the preview 4 tracks and based on them I would not have purchased the CD. I downloaded it to check it out to hear the disc start to finish and it did in fact justify the purchase. I've been burned far too many times from over hype, plain out false advertising to NOT preview before purchase.
