I agree, touch screens on mobile devices are popular because there is such limited realestate on a handheld device a touch screen may be the best way to make use of it.
M$ seems to be banking on touch screens becoming popular on desktops, it will be another failure for them:
1. They have had touch screens out for years... i used one 15 years ago on a museum field trip at an info kiosk, your finger was like a mouse.
2. Current monitors work great. People hated vista because they had to upgrade hardware unnecessarily. What about having to upgrade your monitor for Windows 7.
3. (least important) Fingerprints.
4. (most important) It doesn't ergonomically make sense. Using a touchscreen on a desktop, you are basically holding your arm out in midair... if you try to hold your arm out in front of you for 8 hours you will be sore by minute 5.
Q: what about ms surface? the touch screen can be built into your desk.
A: As if that ergonomically makes sense either, no one wants to be hunched over a touch screen for 8-12 hour days.
It is a never a 'race to zero', it is a shift from the pre-paid model, to and advertising model.
I played many side scrolling shooters in the dos era. Now those games for children are built in flash, and available on the web, and are supported by ads or adsense filled pages.
Many open source project websites, are ad supported, so there still is revenue. Mozilla Firefox an open source browser rakes in $75 million a year through ad related revenue.
In canadian winters everyone plugs in their cars at night (block heater) or else they won't start in the morning, so I don't see what the big deal is. Canada's electricity infrastructure is just fine for plugging in cars at night.
Besides how hard is it to build a device with an autoshutoff when the battery is full. The big problem will be people who forget to unplug their cars, and drive away with half a power cord attached!
I imagine at least $20,000 for this. Which is easily affordable if they are paying for it with settlement money.
But... not everyone would have settlement money. For some people its still going to be the wheelchair though. I think you can pick them up for $30 still.
Look, all of the states with fast median download connections are small states. Its way easier to wire up a small state especially if their demographics have most people living in urban areas.
Imagine trying to provide optimum connections to an entire state like Alaska or Texas. The more rural areas you have the more the median download speed for that state will take a hit (because its cheaper to throw in high speed to an urban area than 1000 small towns).
This is just like their tabbed browsing patent.
M$ Business model: find an unpatented feature in an open source browser. Implement it in IE, then patent it. Sue the pants of the people who dared infringe on it.

From reading google and microsoft reviews at glassdoor.com, it became apparent that microsoft is like a government job with tons of bureaucracy. However google on the other hand treats non-engineers (marketing, etc) like second class citizens. Marketing and Sales guys complained that the expected endless promotions but instead found a kind of invisible ceiling.
No matter what features the EEE has, it was designed to be low cost. Any competitor must also be low cost. $500 is not cheap for a laptop these days.
Why does dell need to make an EEE competitor when it ALREADY HAS a $399 laptop you can buy today. The Dell Vostro 1000 has an AMD Sempron 3600+, XP Home, 15.4 inch Wide Screen, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, CD Burner, 802.11g Wifi, and 256MB integrated video.
How is it possible it only took 1 'nut' to build that?

In the news recently:
1. Sleep talking
2. Sleep walking
3. Sleep eating (ambien)
4. Sleep emailing
what is next?
5. Sleep texting
Gmail Goggles could be helpful, but has not been field tested yet.
It is not illegal to download shareware. It has been shareware since 1991.

I live on the East Coast (of Japan) and have a 100Mbps-rated optical fibre connection. Though the fastest I've got out of it is a piddling 87Mbps.
Muahaha.
We are talking median speed. If you and your 5 neighbors have speeds of 1,1,2,3 and 87 your median speed is 2Mbps.

That wasn't so hard was it. I think I'll go watch some tv now.
If was originally named ebayus aphidopholus, as the species was first discovered on ebay, but was later renamed due to trademark issues.
This only applies to telemarketers calling from within the united states. A lot of the iterative calling I get is from international skypers.
There are some calls that are exempt, like during a state of emergency the fire department will issue an evacuation order via automated phonecall.
This is not good PR for apple. One of the reasons Apple's stock is so inflated is the buzz factor around its products.
It just goes to show that apple and its products are 'human', ipods are still miniature laptops, subject to the same problems.
It's not bittorrent comcast needs to worry about. It's Tiger Woods
Way to go k mart!

Since you can't run 6 and 7 on the same machine, I stay on [IE] 6.
So you've never heard of VMWare? You can even use it to run IE under linux.
Good job... lets assume the adoption rate is linear. In 18 years you'll have more FF3 users than people on the earth!

OEBPC doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
