  2. Mexican here on Mexican Government To Document Cell Phone Use · · Score: 4, Informative
Prepaid phones are sold pretty cheaply to anyone with hardly any name needed for the transaction last time I checked. Note that I do not own a cell phone due to privacy concerns, and with this new law I am unlikely to get one.

In my experience, there's several people who due to poverty or lack of concern are not registered with the relatively new CURP system. Thus I wonder, how will it affect those people? Will they shell out 20 pesos to pay some kid with internet access to get it for them, or will they stop using cell phones?

I believe (and hope) this law will fail in epic proportions. Mainly due to Telcel, pretty much the only cellphone provider, losing too many costumers over it. Also, there seems to be much opposition: there are very few comments supporting the law on the article linked.

Mexico does need a way to get rid of our infamy before the eyes of the world, a police state will only make us even worse. We don't need this kind of stupidity coming from our government, however corrupt it may be.

The song sample is one of the crappy bootleg remixes that wanna be DJs sell on swap meets. Also, it's crappy "Narco Corridos" (check out what wikipedia has to say http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcocorrido), a genre that some songwriter friends of mine define as "the cancer that is killing Mexican music". The first thing is the cliche echo deep voice, frequent in remix CDs, followed by some guy singing about how much he loves drugs. Oh, and the pic is totally unrelated. I've never heard narco corridos played by a mariachi band!

Not that this will help solve the mystery, but whoever pulled this prank has a very poor taste in music, I'd say.

I wouldn't doubt it! It was some guy from Mexico who started a dealership in San Diego and was too cheap to buy commercial-grade American lease agreements. I was tempted to twist the small print a bit, but I was afraid I'd end up paying for double material.

Another of my English product highlights was a label for play money. I was given creative freedom, so I did it as if I was writing Engrish. I came up with "Little Millionaire's Play Money: Financial Fun!" The client LOVED it with fanatical glee!

Alternate labels from the client included "Six Pack of Cash", "Tree of Money" and "Money for Small Rich People".

I get tons of jobs with broken English, and when trying to fix them, I get berated, because "cousin Pancho lives in the US since 1980, and that's how he says it's written". I just let it be, and casually mention it's wrong, but what do I know? After all, I'm just an amateur grammar nazi with access to countless online dictionaries! Let them keep selling "blanckets" instead of blankets, "abandon" the hotel instead of checking out, and "get your kitchen stoned" instead of buying marble furniture. I guess bad translations are meant to be part of the tourist experience.

Oh, and if you live in San Diego and you come to a car dealership where they give you a "Leash Agreement" instead of a Lease one, tell them I said hi!
