...then, as far as I'm concerned, they are old enough to have one. I'm sure my daughter will ask for a cell phone at some point, and if she's able to work and afford the $40/month bill then more power to her.
So the places that these websites would most likely have adult supervision/accountability (schools, libraries) are the places they want to ban them? What the hell is wrong with Congress?
Personally, I think a Crow vs Crow flamewar would be much more interesting. The day Trace Beaulieu left and Crow was "replaced" was the day the show got a lot less funny for me.
Don't let that get in the way of his anti-Christian rant. If he'd bother to RTFA and do a little checking, he'd have realized that the Pope wasn't really saying what he wanted to hear.

Only on/. can you make a post that blames all of the worlds problems (past and present) on a single cause (religion) and be modded up for it. Must be nice to have things all figured out so nice and neatly. Blanket statements such as "You can not learn anything about the world from religion" display an amazing amount of arrogance that lead me to think you've got nothing more than a personal ax to grind regarding religion. Next time, try a truthful statement such as "I haven't learned anything about the world from religion, but it's quite possible that others have."
The difference, of course, is that the crossword-puzzle person wasn't holding up the piece of paper and distracting half the class. Besides the obvious noise problem that many keyboards present, anyone sitting behind the laptop user will find it challenging to avoid looking at whatever-the-hell is being played on the laptop. Crossword puzzle loser: only cheats himself. Laptop loser: cheats a lot of other people.
No, he's not smoking anything and your guess would be wrong. Although Blizzard won't (obviously) confirm anything, a number of sources have shown that the most concurrent users a WoW server can handle is around 3000-3500. Why do you think they keep adding more and more servers and yet queues continue to rise even after a full year after launch? It's because their architecture simply can't handle the "massive" part of a MMORPG.
Oh, take the self-righteous angst and stuff it. There is something serious sick in Islam today and unless some of their leaders stand up and turn the ship around, it's only going to get worse. We're aren't talking about a "few", we're talking about thousands and thousands of people, in countries all over the world, reacting VIOLENTLY to images that were published in a country they've probably never even been to. Images published months ago! That in all likelyhood they haven't even been "allowed" to see for themselves! That's lunacy, and people like you need to stop rationalizing and justifying and start calling a spade, a spade.
If you get down to it, even if you use birth control prevent the union of sperm and egg that would have occured- you just prevented a human life. Maybe not violently but just as surely as if you had aborted it at 8 months.
No, not the same at all. Using your logic, if I kiss my wife but fail to have sex, I've just prevented a human life. If I fail to go outside and meet women, I've prevented a human life. This line of thought makes no sense and causes me to shake my head in wonder at people who would use a "birth control = abortion" formula. The fact of the matter is that once you were conceived, you're a blob of reproducing cells until the day you die. What's been or could have been "prevented" has nothing to do with it, the wheels are set in motion and you'll have to come to grips with it. The parent poster was spot on.
The WoW servers can only support about 3000 players logged in at one time...if a server is popular (20,000+ accounts with characters on it) you can see why this would be a problem. I'd hardly call 3k concurrent players "massively multiplayer", WoW was poorly designed to handle the load.
"Personally I am on the look out for a MMORPG like game that dares to be complex."
The game you are asking for is EVE Online. I've played many MMORPGs and nothing compares to the complexity and depth that EVE offers. It's not a game for everyone, though, and it tends to be a "love it or hate it" affair. If you do give it a shot, (and it does have a free 14 day trial), make sure you seek out a good corporation (guild) to be involved with. While you can play solo for quite a lot, you'll miss out on 90% of the game's content if you aren't with a solid group of people.
You sound like someone who didn't get hooked up with a good corp. That's a shame, because all of the complaints you listed become non-issues once you're doing things with a solid group of people on a regular basis. Even so, EVE isn't for everyone, so maybe it just wasnt your cup of tea.
There's a difference between pubically advertising a GLBT guild and casually mentioning you have a "boyfriend" in your own guild chat. The latter is no big deal, but the former is pushing an agenda that many people don't want to see in an online RPG. And Blizzard doesn't want to deal with flamewars resulting from Gay, Pro-choice, Pro-life, White/Black/Asian/Hispanic, Republican, etc. guild advertising. And I don't blame them.
Because a large part of their viewership is only able to view website that come across over port 80. Many, many corporate firewalls block ports like 8090, my firewall included.

It's part of the joke, you dumbass, which apparently when right over your clueless head.

And what's wrong with avoiding an answer to a stupid flamebait question?

This is killing me, too. I can't skim comments anymore. :(
Funny to see someone on Slashdot describing the place I grew up in. =)
In that case...waiter? Check please!
Also note that besides FFXI along with World of Warcraft and Runescape are the only games still without a downward trend.
You're forgetting a small, but very well made game called EVE Online. Its numbers have been growning steadily as well.
Hmm, your comment is about 1.5 years too late. Better luck next time?
P.S. You're missing out on a great sci-fi mmorpg that keeps getting better.
I'd imagine that quite a lot of that money is going to support the sinking ship that is Vivendi.

Sure *you* could do that, but you aren't in the middle of a lawsuit claiming you've abused a monopoly position.

Since when are elitist comments with bad analogies considered "insightful?"
