Right but deals with those compagnies tie you up. It's not only a matter of open format, it's a matter of independance. To have laws that oblige administrations to go in the direction of the biggest independance for them and therefore for their government in a matter of administration is a sane decision. On the other hand, I don't think this is true for every part of a country's organisation. Civil rights for example are outside the scope of a country's independance. That's why the human rights declaration is universal, it's beyond politics.
well, there is also the old dragonlance #1 scenario that is available for download, ready to be adapted. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x =dnd/dx200 20121x Along with some other fine works. Actually I prefer to have them burned for me for less than 5 euros at some internet shop (which gives back some of its revenue to the fsf), then give directly to the distro(s) I use through direct services like mandrake club.
Comply to their claim, after all it's their choice of dealing with supporters that way: put the description on ebay like this: "3 cds set from the compagny wich uses ridiculous red outfit as a logo and has such way of dealing with his supporters" with a link to that page there. Then make a similar link to distribute mandrake cds but with high praises regarding their behaviour. In a while, rh will back up from this behaviour.

They never used a computer before and when i said "and then you press enter" to my father, he looked at me puzzled.
After one hour of training, they know how to login whith kdm, how to connect to internet, how to fire and use konqueror and kmail, how to deal with the files they receive in their home directory. On the topic of current Nvidia cards:
Do not buy a GeForce4-MX for Doom.
Nvidia has really made a mess of the naming conventions here. I always
thought it was bad enough that GF2 was just a speed bumped GF1, while GF3 had
significant architectural improvements over GF2. I expected GF4 to be the
speed bumped GF3, but calling the NV17 GF4-MX really sucks.
GF4-MX will still run Doom properly, but it will be using the NV10 codepath
with only two texture units and no vertex shaders. A GF3 or 8500 will be
much better performers. The GF4-MX may still be the card of choice for many
people depending on pricing, especially considering that many games won't use
four textures and vertex programs, but damn, I wish they had named it
something else.
(all this comes from carmack's.plan: http://webdog.org/plans/1/ )
It seems nvidia is going the same road as intel and sis with their cheap video-on-board motherboard. All of them sucked! Good luck!
well, I just tried xine 0.9 yesterday evening and feel a little ashamed of my easy humour. The program is so easy, with a nice new gui and great image quality. Final Fantasy was beautifull. And i'm sure, the mplayer gui will sooner or later (perhaps already) permits to tweak all the options of this great soft. And ogle, and videolan (impressive!!!),... We have a great choice of apps now, and we even have the choice to use CLI ! (to keep all those new mutant fingers active!). CLI The choice of a new generation (of mutants).
without all of the messy command line mucking about that is necessary for multimedia under Linux. what are you talking about? mplayer -aop list=resample:fout=2 -vo xv -dvd 1 -gui is quite straightforward and every new user coming from a GUI environment would find it quite easily. It's interactive, it's intuitive, it's pretty and it's fun. Like a gui. OK, OK, i admit, I've actually grown a few extra fingers...
except that in your case the ecosystem that existed before the internet file sharing was the one set by the majors. In this view, the predators are the p2p networks and you're beginning to see the second wave of reactions of the attacked system (the first wave was the legal actions: trials and laws). face it: if there isn't an alternative in their production model, that is: societies which produce, manage and distribute artists and respect those new ways to share music or movies, they will win. Because they have the money and therefore the political support. And also because, as you said, the p2p wave is making them stronger and giving them ideas of new ways to control their customers and milk them.
Interestingly enough, Brasil will have to re-qualify for the next world cup since from now on the champion doesn't automatically get in. Which is good for them, because you need the last qualification matches to know the real shape of a team and make final adjustements (like germany, whose team got reborn after the match against ukraine).
it seems to me that this news is about the right this eula gives them to actually disable those programs because they do the kind of services you describe. Fishy, isn't it?
Can you still talk about a free market if those kind of eulas are legal?
