Yes in Gattaca you could tell the genetics of your unborn child, but you could also do genetic engineering on the unborn child in Gattaca and it was that portion that had more to do with the plot.
What fucking genetic engineering on the unborn child did you see? They clearly showed that children were selected from a number of fertlized eggs while the rest of the embryos were discarded.
I'm assuming you didn't actually see Gattaca but another movie, and are confusing the two.
Let me be the first one to say it:

"Gattaca" wasn't fiction - it was an accurate prediction of a dystopian, fast-approaching and very real future.
Actually, there is such a thing as GW/hr. Look at your electric bill...the measurement unit used there is kWh, or "kilowatt hour." One thousand of those is a GWh, or gigawatt hour. But that's a measure akin to volume; what is being discussed here is more like flow, so it's not accurate to call it that. Unless they're monkeying with the math...saying that a car reached "300 miles" in speed, letting us insert the "per hour" in our minds when in reality it went 15 MPH for 20 hours. More likely, they're just getting the terms slightly confused.
Who the fuck modded this clusterfuck of stupidity as "Informative"? Jeeze mods, check your elementary physics.
So if I walk up to you and take something that belongs to you, in your world view I should track you down and ask nicely for it back before I call the cops? It's not like she and the others didn't know they were taking someone else's work, without permission or credit, and using it to make money for themselves. And you genuinely want to make out that he's the bad guy here? You believe this? Really...thanks for making sure I'm not getting out of this week without one more reminder how hopelessly fucked up and bankrupt some peoples moral world view can be.
Wait a minute: did you just compare a felony (theft) with copying one file?
And you have the nerve to call the GP's morals as "hopelessly fucked up and bankrupt"? Why don't you go fuck yourself, mate.
Well, I needed a non-free alternative to the otherwise very nice Avidemux: Avidemux is unable to sanely re-encode h.264 videos - it loses audio sync catastrophically. Yes, there are other free re-encoders that handle h.264 better, but none that will generate an AVI container.
So, for this particular case, free alternatives don't exist.
Because hitting the streets has been so effective.
Groups of people have money. You think the NRA is funded by gun industry big wigs? Ha. It's funded by the 40-50% of the country who owns guns. Combined action generates money, and gets your cause access.
How many people download songs? They may have been idiot teenagers and college students to start, but they're growing up, getting jobs, starting companies. Go get involved and maybe you'll have a lobby useful enough to write some legislation.
You propose to utilize a system (lobbying) that is in itself the cause of all the problems in the US legislature? Don't you know that the little guy will be always outgunned, if the guns you use is money?
Lobbying is corruption, and it always help the privileged ones against the common interest. It's the way to destroy a level field.
The great majority - or actually *every* other open-access journal, including various other PLoS journals - have *much* lower publication fees. Even as low as an order of magnitude less than your quoted number. The various PLoS journals do remain the most expensive to publish in, but they often allow articles to be published for free, depending on institution and country of origin.
Almost perfect, but I'll add yet another amendment:
The Republicans are offering corporate slavery. The Democrats are offering corporate slavery. There isn't much differences in the particular corporations they would enslave you to.
The large majority of the people in my circles with whom I keep active contact with, post almost exclusively Limited, as do I.
Frankly, those who post exclusively Public seem a bit like show-offs and/or "social media consultants" (or "experts"), and who wants to stay in touch with such people?
Maybe the solution is to only create movies that cost less than $10 million to make - then, even if piracy grows and takes 90% of your profits,
What makes you think piracy takes any profits at all? Do you have any proof that those downloading free copies of a given content (be it music or movies) would have otherwise paid for it? There is research proving otherwise.
The department of physics at our university (Aalto university, Finland) has their own nuclear reactor. This brings the total number of nuclear reactors in Finland to five.
Or what about that cross for Christianity? These modern day kids haven't seen any crucifixions lately. How will they relate?
That's the strangest, since the Romans themselves didn't really use crosses but a "T"-shaped torture device, and Christ, if he indeed existed at the time reported by the gospels, would have been crucified on a "T"-shaped post.
Who you know is still far, far more important than what you know. You merely need to be basically competent (say, top 30-40%) if you have good connections.
I don't disagree - but connections is what people in the top 1% have, not the little guy. For the little guy, education is the only way, as hard as it is to make it.
I must admit that I thought the Apple fanboys were just being fanboys, but after I got Macbook Air to use I must say I'm very impressed with everything Apple does. Everything, and I mean everything, just works so easily and quickly. Not only that, but there is actually also UNIX system underneath OS X. I've had nothing but good impressions about App Store and iTunes and the whole OS. This decision lines well with that thinking. Now I actually think that people accusing Apple of inflated prices just think in terms of hardware, which I guess is typical to geeks and Win/Linux users. Apple products are much more than that.
I threw up a bit. Is this supposed to be "subtle marketing" or "subliminal messaging"?

I think it was Saudi Arabia that created Stuxnet. They have the resources and the talent.
It's just as likely if not more likely that it was Israel.
Was she a computer scientist/mathematician living in the UK, by any chance?

One is the designer and developer of the most popular smartphone + tablet OS. The other has a garish social networking website.
Now which one do you think is better positioned to take advantage of mobile Internet users?

If we had more of that sort, instead of the people who are firmly grounded and really good at business, the world would be a better place.

Apart from the fact that I think she looks hot, I do agree with the spirit of your post, and actually appreciate it vehemently and furiously.

PerC happily sells hackintoshes and Apple can't do shit about it.
For some things it sucks to live in the USA.
If you're going to cite Wikipedia, you could do a minimum effort and link to the correct article:

Twice the power of ours, already.
Ahhh, the Netherlands... I love your country apart that ruling to block access to PirateBay

First you say
As far as Virtual Desktops go (Number 5), it is technically unfeasible, for reasons I don't quite remember.
But then you say
there are third party applications of varying quality that already implement this, to a varying degree.
O_o
