I bought a bag at Wal-Mart once, carried around my 15# Desktop Replacement in it, and it seemed like I was carrying a bag full of bricks. I got a replacement bag from a decent store, carried the same laptop around as before, and barely noticed it was there. 15# is not a lot of weight, but if you get a poorly designed and constructed bag it can seem like it.
Really, the masses need some thinning, and maybe drugs are the way to do it. Make them legal, then crack down on people who can't handle it. It's not the drugs that are the problem, it's what people do to get them, and people who are capable of controlling themselves don't have a problem there. There are a lot of things that we protect people from nowadays, and it's leading to the destruction of the human race. Once upon a time if you were an idiot you were likely to take yourself out of the gene pool, now idiots are protected. And like any endangered species, those protections can cause overpopulation if allowed to continue for too long.
I did live in Colorado in the early 90s, really liked it then, but stopping back by last year I had to wonder if the whole state had gone utterly mad. I'd been planning on moving back there, but after a few weks of visiting I think I'd rather not.
Now if only I could find the warning, don't want to be writing to someone about an incredibly stupid warning unless I've seen it myself. Not that I'm calling the original poster a liar, or have any doubt that something like this is likely to be said, but because before I start sending off messages about something I believe I should see it for myself.
They still do that? Sure couldn't tell by the teens working around town. Almost as bad at reading as they are at math, and people are trying to cut standardized tests because they're "too hard" for the poor kids to pass. Nowadays it's about getting them through school, making sure the school's funding doesn't get cut, and trying not to crush their self-esteem by allowing them to fail. You never know when some kid who makes Forrest Gump look like a genius is going to sue you for "mental anguish" or some other cop out because they couldn't cut it in school.
If it is an emergency, and they are witholding medical treatment from you for no other reason than your refusal to sign this agrement, isn't that grounds to sue them? I really don't care for the "sue 'em all mentality" most people seem to have, but a good lawsuit might make some of these idiots realize they're making a mistake. It's not like suing McDonnalds because you're too dumb to realize that coffee is hot, this is someone who is taking away your right to discuss services rendered or denying you those services. And while in most cases this really isn't serious enough to merit legal actions, in this case it really could be a matter of life and death.
Exactly. If publishers hadn't proved time and time again that they can't be trusted to sell you a game that will function without having to fight with the DRM or a CSR to make it work I'd be more willing to buy digital downloads. As it is I have enough issues downloading cracked executables because some idiot company thinks that I've installed the game I spent $60 on too many times, or horror of horrors on both my laptop and desktop, if I paid for the bloody thing it's mine and I want something physical on my shelf or it seems like I'm asking for trouble when a company decides it's not going to bother with activations for a game they no longer support. I still play some games I bought twenty years ago, and I intend to still be playing the gamesI have today in twenty years, and if I don't have access to the physical media I don't know that I will be able to do that.
ext2fs likes to mount partitions I don't want it to mount, like / and/home. ntfs-3g actually works much better than ext2fs, and comes with slackware 12.2 now, but I won't always be accessing my removable drives from my computer. FAT32 works without installing anything, so I can use it on a friend's computer, at the library, or school. Even if I Can gain root/admin access in these places, it wouldn't be my right to modify their systems.
Artistic works should be accessable to everyone, and anything that takes away from it is a bad thing. I'm not saying that Authors, Musicians, Actors and the like shouldn't be compensated for their work, but the attempt to compensate them should not make the work itself next to useless. The mindless lawsuits need to stop, and vendor lock-in for media (protected wma as an example) needs to be done away with. And really, a musician selling their album on Magnatune is probably making more money than someone who let WEA market their works (and drive them in to debt with advances, forcing them to put out mediocre if not outright bad filler albums in order to catch up)
I do the same thing I do with computer games. If a game doesn't at least work with wine I don't buy it, no matter how much I want it, and I send the company a message telling them why I didn't buy it. If a band is on an RIAA label I don't buy it, no matter how much I want it, and I send the band and the label a message telling them why. The Kindle book require you to purchase audio rights? Don't buy it, and send them a message saying that you're not buying iit because of the Author's Guild suit. I'm not sure how much good it does, but it's better than supporting the people you complain about. If enough people were willing to sacrifice the things they want to prove that it is worth it, things would change. The RIAA diesn't give enough of a benefit to labels or artists for them to stay with it if they see a los of sales due to their membership.
Oh, I will admit there is a loss. I'm a try before you buy downloader, and I haven't been so mad about the poor quality of an item I paid for as to hit up all the review sites I'm a member at and tell people how horrible it is in some time. When I have the opportunity to see if I really want something before I buy it I do buy less, but I don't generate the bad publicity for an inferior product that I'm ticked off I paid for, so I really think it balances out. I pay for what I keep, and you won't find a single song on my computer that isn't paid for or public domain, but I no longer pay for things I don't want because by downloading it first I know what I'm getting before I pay for something. Really, they should be happy that the chance to preview an item has stopped me from posting bad reviews, because the sale of my unwanted CD or DVD to a used store is one less new product that will be purchased, so you really don't even have an extra sale to counteract the bad publicity of me telling everyone just how much I hated it.
It is Hulu's content providers you should be ticked at, without them Hulu wouldn't be of too much worth. How people can fault Hulu for doing what they needed to do to keep their content? If they hadn't backed off and removed official support it's likely there wouldn't be the chance for a hacked version to watch the shows that could have been pulled. Blame the content providers, not Hulu.
I actually like this idea a lot, you know the alliance is not the most popular group in the verse after that holo is broadcast. I'm betting plenty of sheep are believeing stories they're likely to come up with to cover themselves, but a good bit aren't going to fall for it, especially those on the outer planets that have been feeling the alliance's justice for too long. It wouldn't be far fetched to have another war start because of the reaver revalation.
You also have to remember that most digital cameras come with an installation CD for windows, if they just include the FS in the installation software it's done, and people who are smart enough to avoid the horrible software that comes with digital cameras are likely smart enoughto install the missing FS that didn't get installed with the software. I know my in-laws have a digital camera that is useless because the driver disc is missing, but I plug it in to my computer and digikam picks it up just fine, if you need to install the software for it to work in windows anyways why not just avoid the lawsuit byinstalling a usable filesystem then?
THat's the only reason FAT32 is still used. Despite the limitations of the file system it "just works" when I plug it in to a windows, mac or linux system. NTFS may work on Linux but it can be a pain, ext3 works on Windows, but you have to install support for it, and it seems to manage to mount all of my ext3 file systems even the ones I've told it not to mount. Can't make a comment on HFS+, not much of a mac person and unlike Windows I've never had a reason to use it despite my distaste.
Kindle books are more expensive than a paperback, and the cost of making them is less than the cost of making a physical book. Sure the lack of market for eBooks makes it harder to reclaim the initial investment to make the eBook, but as long as people can buy a paperback cheaper than an eBook I don't really see that changing.
Okay, didn't Firefly & Serenity have great DVD sales as well? Why not another season of that? Nothing against Futurama, but it's not at the top of the list of Fox killed shows I'd like to see make a comeback.
My experiance with Microsoft products has always been releases that should be classified as betas. The only version of Windows I haven't had major problems with on release was the 98 to 98SE upgrade, and I don't think that really counts.
Just remember to get yourself the Windows rebate after you decline the EULA. Take that number off the narket share Microsoft claims. You have to wonder just how many of those users MS claims are either dual booting, or have completely wiped the drive and installed something else in it's place.
Apple is different in that they are the OEM, they're pre-installing their software on their own hardware, not trying to make sure that everyone else's hardware is sold with their software by default. Don't get me wrong, I'd never buy a mac unless I planned to install Linux on it, but their OS only really affects their hardware so your argument seems to fall a little flat.
Yeah, figure it weighs between 40 & 50, and in a good bag it's no more difficult to carry than that total of 20 in a poorly designed bag.

people steal music on the internet, sales drop for the karaoke labels, we get less karaoke.
So, what you're saying is piracy is a good thing?

Yeah, two of my favorite charachters dead, you have a point there. Can we bring a Genesis Torpedo over from Star Trek? :P
