Go bad and reread 1984, the point was NOT that socialism is bad, the point is that totalitarianism is bad. Strict government control of the populace is not a defining feature of socialism, look at holland ffor gods sake; it does, however manifest in leninist, stalinist and maoist governments.
alright. first, IMO fisking is not by any stretch of the imagination a righteous term; it is a right-wing attack on independent journalists however.
More importantly, regardless of how many hackers warblog, it isn't hacking. I'd bet far more hackers drink soda and go to the bathroom, yet I can find neitther of those mentioned.
I think the problem with the marketing content was mainly a reflection of the times, everyone had EXTREME commercials so sega had to copy, and do a bad job of it, too. SEGA's problem has always been, lead in games, follow everywhere else.
If technology is applied science then how can it be neutral? A nuclear weapon is technology and I think you caan easily make an arguement that it is an immoral piece of technology. More generally, is a technology moral if it causes death as a side effect of its use? You can't seperate technology as some abstract philosophical concept and technology as it's specific manifestations because technology only exists through its manifestations.
I would really take issue with whether bush is smart or not. Cheney(who really runs things) is damn smart, but bush can hardly speak four sylable words. Bush apears smart because of the tactics that are laid out by Cheney. I cant believe that the incentive that Bush has given all our enemies to get nukes can be a good thing. Our actions with N. Korea have prretty much said "get a nuke and we wont bother you." more people having nukes makes me feel safe.
So you're for war against turkey as well? They've been much worse to the kurds than Iraq has. And I'm sure they all would be immensley happy if saddam were overthrown... By iraqis. As it stands now we will be an occupying power, and we all know how well that is working for Israel, there's no more terrorism there. Right?
According to the movie this would be the case, but in the comic he was bitten by an atomically irradiated spider which cause the changes. also in the comic he didn't shoot web out of his arm, he made web slingers himself. the only super powers he had were wall climbing and strength(at one point he was stronger than hulk) considering that the action figures(dolls) for spiderman are much more muscular than he ever was in the movie, but match his comic book physique quite well, he would be human.
just because there's no better theory doesn't make it any less speculative. use the heliocentric model of the solar system as an example. before copernicous thought it up the best theory we had was that the planets rotated around the sun. just cause no one is smart enough to come up with a new theory doesn't make the current one right.
as for other possibilities; maybe the universe pulses in and out without accually colapsing in on itself or 'exploding'.

i wasn't thinking of using it for 'my' purposes. i was thinking something that would be generally useful but wouldn't get broad distribution outside of the geek/. community.
why not take it one step further and use it to propagate genuinely useful things. i.e. use a similar worm to set up freenet nodes all over the place. or use it to set up an anonymous cloud network that all infected computers use. i'm sure there's more i'm not thinking of.

I've noticed the press has turned against the bush administration lately. i saw the headline "Cheney beats the drums of war" on a paper the other day. not a sympathetic image. then there was the time they refered to bush's plan as a 'plot' that and the fact that people are coming out of the wood work to oppose bush on iraq.

the question is; if we are so brave why are we giving up all out freedom?

how about a link to a good example then? maybe even one involving fisk himself.

or lack thereof. SEGA wouldn't market a game until *after* it came out, and so completely screwed themselves.
