i use RDP every day to manage and work on servers in a datacenter.
and the ISP that supplies my bandwidth at my office is terrible and will usually have between 200 and 900ms ping times at various times throughout the day.
RDP works, sort of, in that it halts, waits for the information, and then tries to catch up.
Most of the time it's successful, but sometimes it does do some weird things.
and the remote access cards or remotely controlled PDU's would be a good addition to RDP.

amazing what you can find looking in the Reliability and performance monitor for facts.
Oh and of the three, one was caused by firefox, one by internet explorer, and the other by installing a bad version of the logitech setpoint software for my keyboard.
if i wanted to ensure that the savior obama got elected, what better way then to report story after story (real or fictionally created by voters) of votes getting switched.
this would of course ensure that EVERYONE who was thinking about voting for the savior then did in fact, turn out to vote to "counter" these supposed "bad" votes and thus would attempt to influence the election by causing a higher turnout in the saviors party.
it's not illegal unless they can get the individuals for fraud (like the girl in texas who was anti-obama) and even if they do prove it, the party and candidate are not implicated and the point still works.
anybody else think that this is exactly why these stories are appearing now?
i realize you posted this as funny, but in reality, is it true?
do pirates prefer XP because there are a ton of VLK available in the wild, or are they doing so because it's a little more difficult for the AVERAGE idiot to pirate XP than Vista? same for 2007 vs 2003.
I myself wonder if it isnt contributing in some part to the preference.
my personal opinion is that people who will pirate, are likely to pirate the latest and greatest simnply because it is the latest and greateest (personal opinions and marketing aside).
for example, if the gamer is wanting to play the latest games, wouldn't he/she be more likely to pirate the OS to run them on as well as the game?
same thing goes for Office. If the person/company is willing to pirate an entire office suite instead of choose a mostly feature complete FOSS alternative, wouldn't they be just as likely to get the latest and greatest that can easily open and edit the new formats as well as the old?
except that in most cases, the "admin" who changes to Google Apps does so because they can tell the "PHB" that's it's "FREE" and it's Google, so they never go down.
Thus they use the free version of Google Apps and "look how much money we saved" get's plastered all over the department memo's.
Then something like this happens, and the PHB's upstairs suddenly start thinking "didn't this happen BEFORE the switch"?
That thinking then leads to the thinking of "well if it happened before the switch, and it happened after the switch, what's the common denominator"?
which of course leads to the conclusion that the Cd is in fact, the idiot RUNNING the system, who must then be fired and replaced.
Way to start yourself down the road to unemployment.
they do.
its called powershell.
ah yes, the rational explanation.
of course!
Everyone will bow to your wisdom now....
or not.

maybe because its not necessary information to know in most cases?
do you know the metallurgical base of the pistons in your car?
NO?!?!?!
WTF MAN!!!!!
you driver it nearly every day!
you do realize that BSOD are hardware related......
right?
in ubuntu it takes 15 minutes to decide if you want to spend the next three weeks fucking around with wireless.....
my guess?
because of shitty ass crapware installed by the manufacturer/user.
let's see

Dell Inspiron 531s
Dell Inspiron 530

hmmmmm
im seeing a trend here........
or you could just, ya know, enjoy the difficulty of the game and not have to be lead by the nose around everywhere.......
keep hoping for that year of the Linux desktop, but don't hold your breath or even put money on it.
the rest of us will just try to find the least intrusive OS to accomplish the tasks we wish to do by running applications.
then you could always excercise your right as a consumer to not upgrade and keep what you have.
same as if you wanted to keep driving your old 1998 Olds cutless.
no one is making you move.
perhaps the money problem is overstated to get ratings for the particular media outlet reporting it?
perhaps its not really affecting the day to day lives of most people.
im willing to bet we can get linus much easier and for more.... /sarcasm
except that anybody who wanted to, could remake their install using something like nlite.
and have only those items/services they desired.
it's called knowing what you are doing.
it's not something the masses would do, just like they wouldn't roll their own linux install.
let me fix that for you.
"Apple manages to make OSX faster on new hardware"
i seriously doubt anyone will say that OSX 10.0 runs slower on a 4 year old 1gb ram intel chip than OSX 1.5.whatever.
it's callled progress.
More features are added because people want them.
thus after a while, the original hardware is no longer the best solution to run the latest version of the OS.
exactly.

except for that whole hourglass thing, or spinning circle next to the mouse cursor.
it still doesn't matter.
I've seen people double click fifteen times when the computer didnt react instantly.
its a user error.
maybe we should require training on these machines before allowing people to use them.
oops, then we would of course be discriminating against stupid people/computer illiterate people/minorities/handicapped/etc.
and just because you happen to think it was, doesn't mean that it was.
STOP USING SAFE COMPUTING 101 GUIDELINES!!!!!!!
stupid caps filter hates me so im adding t his to see if i can get past it otherwise the sarcasm doesnt work quite as well.
if this is true, then apparently their measures are working.......

personally i've used usb 2.0 compliant drives to transfer terabytes of data.
i averaged 31-32MB/s doing so.
firewire 400 is not appreciably faster.
either is a poor substitute for eSata.
there are quite a few external hdd's that feature esata.
and they work just fine.
in fact, much better than firewire.
