Even if your premise were correct, let me point out that being well armed is not a deterrent to a determined government. Ask Waco.

But fundamentally, I think you've set up a false dichotomy. There are plenty of conservatives who believe strongly in the fourth amendment, and plenty of liberals who back the second -- some, like myself, a little more grudgingly than others.

"More creepy than sexy" -- four words that sum up most of the anime I've been subjected to. But if that's going to be the criteria under which we judge the depth of the uncanny valley, some people are going to navigate it a lot faster than others.

It occurs to me that if you asked a bunch of economists, they'd probably say that people don't know enough about economics. Same for any other field.

Seems like a good place to plug the book "The Canon: A Whirligig Tour of the Beautiful Basics of Science" (Review: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/27/books/review/Pinker-t.html). Basically, the author asked scientists in various fields what they thought adults should know about what they do.

... if what Radiohead did had involved a file sharing site. In exchange for my $10, I got an http link directly to a ZIP file. Unless the UK user experience was vastly different, I call shenanigans on the story summary. Yes, the actual album was still torrented despite the fact that it was available, legally, for free. But what exactly would a record company learn from that besides that high buzz = more interest in illegal downloads?

A browser is just a standalone application that happens to use the net for data. It can use integrated applications for things like RSS or Google Sky, or it can run standalone applications for things like RSS or WWT.

WWT is using the Web to synthesize data from multiple sources into an integrated, interactive user experience. How does that not qualify?

I had this problem with a Freespire install I did for a friend a year ago. The resolution change dialog box was too big for half the options -- I had to tab and hit enter randomly until something happened. The difference, as I see it, is that Windows allows a user to make a window smaller from any of the window's four corners. I know that the KDE on that Freespire install wouldn't let me do that. Is that an old issue, or just a UI choice?
