I don't think that such monitoring is completely bad, but the next step beyond what is currently going on is probably a step too far, and Blizz needs to be pretty careful on going further with cracking down on cheating. It's also a bit of their own fault for making an engine that is so easy to mod from the outside, which they seem to be liking less and less, but is more and more needed for advanced gameplay at times.

Which continent is the one that allows Sharia law courts? Which is the one where Muslims nearly riot over a CARTOON?

I also believe it was France that had a ton of Muslim youths rioting all over the place. I don't recall massive Muslim riots in America.

The reason that parts of Europe are going to go Islamic is because of the attitude that all ways of life are equal - even to the point that it allows views as extreme as Sharia law which takes away basic civil rights.

  11. Missing prediction... on Revolution, Flashmobs and Brain Implants in 2035 · · Score: 2, Interesting

It talks about the declining European population, but NOT the rising population of muslims in Europe (particularly France). Plenty of kowtowing is going to Muslims in Europe as well, with little pressure to become "westernized," and therefore allowing more extremist sides of Islam to enter Europe. We're already seeing pockets where Sharia law is allowed in England, France, and Germany, and we're probably not to far from seeing an "Islamicization" of Europe, which will be an interesting mix. Australia is taking a different approach - it seems like they're making sure that Sharia law is not going to be imposed, but Australian law. America is going to be an interesting bag - most muslims here are VERY westernized and stay within urban areas or college towns; however, it is very difficult for them to use Sharia law unless it is done somewhat "off the books." I think that we're going to see some try and impose Sharia law within a community here in the states, but at some point there is going to be a backlash.

I completely agree, but the block isn't just short-term thinking of busines - it's the political issue at hand. Lefties typically don't like nuclear power; from what I understand, Gore rarely - if ever - talks about it simply because they're afraid of it. Never mind that accidents have been rare and only one was semi-uncontained (Chernobyl) and that waste products can be re-used.

Imagine if someone who had credibility with the left on the environment - think Gore or Edwards - made a major push for nuclear. Of course, if they DID that, they wouldn't have credibility anymore.

On the business side, if we COULD build more nuclear power plants in the US with modern technology, someone would do it...SOMEONE would think long term on that measure and pull it off somewhere. This IS America, after all.

  17. The big difference... on Blogger Vs. Journalist — Access Denied · · Score: 1

The biggest difference that I see behind some bloggers and journalists is that bloggers don't necessarily make a claim to objectivity, while journalists expect me to think they are objective simply because they are a journalist.

Of course, I would have to believe that someone can be objective for that to work.

Anyway, what we call "blogging" today is what journalism became around Vietnam - journalists searching to expose and press their agenda - right or wrong - and using the title of Reporter to expect us to believe their credibitility.

Think Woodward and Watergate here - good CAN come of it, but there is a difference between reporting the who-what-where-how and delving WAY too much into the "why."

All in all, I think there are tons of journalists who are getting - and going to get - upstaged by bloggers who are far more knowledgeable about their fields (because they were in that field BEFORE they started writing about it, not just getting their journalism degree first), and write just as intelligently and far more friendly to the reader.

Remember Gary Hart, Monkey Business, and the 1988 election? Sean Penn's boat at Katrina? Tipper Gore's staged mud shoveling in the Honduras?

The list - of both the left and the right - is pretty long, but the political "gotcha" game is going to be increasingly affected by youtube.

Other than that, we need to invest in making better drivers in America. Coming from Louisiana and now living in Georgia, I can relate that that drivers in both places are TERRIBLE. Plus, there's the issue of when the technology goes wrong...you've seen the movies... Of course, this could all be like the argument that the old computer guys made when they said all we needed was maybe ten in the world or somesuch, and I could be COMPLETELY wrong and this is the Next Big Great Awesome Thing. I suspect that we won't see a lot less of this. Outlets like youtube are going to be where some REALLY nasty political ads are going to appear...many "unofficial" and "unrelated" and "not endorsed." Campaign workers are going to go "off the reservation," private lobbies will make their own, and get TONS of viewership in public forums without having to pay a dime to television.

Heck, we're seeing it already on campaign websites and MoveOn has some pretty vitriolic (and usually baseless) stuff.

The lies will get worse, but one of the more interesting things is that it will be a LOT easier to debunk bad ads. Places like factcheck.org have done a REALLY good job at research, and stuff like that is only going to get more prolific as well.

So, in other words, politics ain't going to change all that much.
