I signed up for Netflix in 2009, to watch Hollywood movies, not their "original content" BS.
It got harder and harder to find anything worth watching over the years. It got to the point where I spent more time looking for content to watch than actually watching it. I had thought about dropping them for years. I finally dropped them in 2016 when they raised the price by another dollar.
At this point, I don't think I'd go back to watching Netflix even for free. It just takes too long to find something I want to watch.
I've taken 4 weeks of vacation in 30 years. One week when my dad died. One week for a camping trip, and the remaining two weeks were for things like my children being born.
Then you've been suckered, or have different priorities. One year, I took 6 weeks off to travel around the country. Another year, I took 4 weeks off and went to Australia. Another year, I took 6 weeks off and went to Africa. I've taken multiple 2-week vacations. Without checking e-mail. And yes, I live in the U.S.
I work with several devs making nearly that much, and they most certainly are burned out. When you work constant death marches with Seattle Hundreds (16 hours a day Mon-Thu and 12 hours a day Fri-Sun) that almost always happens. I work almost that much, and I moved over a year ago and still haven't even unpacked yet. High pay helps, but you still have a breaking point. There just aren't enough programmers to meet demand.
I've never worked anywhere with that kind of schedule....or known anyone who has. Then again, I have never lived in shit holes like Seattle or California.
I simply wouldn't work like that. If it were that, or go on welfare, I'd say fuck it and go on welfare, or just rob houses for a living - leaving that kind of schedule to the suckers.
If my employer required me to work more than 50 hours per week on anything other than a rare occasion, I'd find a new employer. ASAP.
When I'm done eating and clearly ready to go, if I don't see the check within 5 minutes, we're up and heading to the front of the restaurant. I'll tell whomever is hostessing that I am ready to pay my bill and show my credit card.
If I have already PROVIDED my credit card, the server gets 5 minutes before the tip starts dropping precipitously, and it will go all the way down to $0 within 10 minutes.
I'm all for poor people getting the first seats on these flights, provided that they are people who are illegally in the U.S. and the flights land in Chad.
If you want to hang out, you've gotta take her out, cocaine If you want to get down, get down on the ground, cocaine She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine If you got that lose, you want to kick them blues, cocaine When your day is done, and you want to ride on cocaine She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine If your day is gone, and you want to ride on, cocaine Don't forget this fact, you can't get it back, cocaine She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine
Three movies per week?? Shit. I don't even find three moves per YEAR worth seeing in the theater.
AMC should concentrate on:
1). Having content worth watching. 2). Having a movie-going experience that doesn't completely suck (props to Alamo Drafthouse here)
Too bad Chick-Fil-A doesn't go into the movie theater chain business. You can bet the experience would be awesome and the food good....just be a drawback that you couldn't give them your business on Sundays.
Yes but does that make any sense with any other machine. Would it be legal to sell a pair of scissors with long unreadable legal contact a sesor controlled device that disabled the scissors if you used them paper not made by the company?
I would agree normal market forces should mean such a product would fail. If it doesn't one has to ask how the free market system has been hacked to fail.
Why do we have an FDA. because people insisted on it. People insisted on it because normal markert forces were not enough to stop suppliers from poisoning or killing a unacceptable number of consumers.
So likewise if people's natural property rights are being violated and the product is good question why?
Some situations are illegal regardless of what a desperate or uninformed person is willing to agree to. Example ( minimum wage, indenturedo servitude, slavery, prostitution)
They are wrong because the buyer is harming the seller even if the seller is willing. The principal works both ways.
None of which has anything to do with the matter at hand.
Apple isn't saying you can't use apps not made by Apple. Apple isn't selling snake oil that will kill people or not cure people as advertised. Apple isn't selling very expensive iPhones to desperate and uninformed people who have no other choices.
To me. If you make something and I buy it you are doing evil by still trying to keep control of what i bought as a way of making more money. I don't know if it is illegal but it should be.
If they were changing the deal after you bought it, I'd agree. But you know the terms and conditions before you buy....and then you choose to buy. It's unreasonable to then complain about the terms and conditions you previously accepted.
To me it doesn't matter whether the walled garden keeps malware out or not. I'd like to be allowed to determine for myself whether an app is trustworthy or not and not be coddled.
You're totally allowed to do this. You have the freedom not to purchase an iPhone, and instead get an Android phone. Nothing is stopping you. Have at it.
Please link me to the third party stores where I can buy iOS apps.
I'll wait.
Please link me to the third party manufacturers who are free to manufacture iPhones and distribute them independently from Apple, in exchange for a fair licensing fee.
No shit.

The public airwaves are not a free market and never have been. They've always been tightly regulated.
No they haven't. They were around a long time before government decided to regulate them.
Typo on my part...I meant to say they DO have pedals...that was my point. Sorry about that.
Probably because where you live, there are a lot of morons.
Scooters like you're thinking of are motorcycles. They do not have pedals.
Mopeds are not motorcycles. They do not have pedals.
FWIW, Scooters range in size, all the way up to the Aprilia SRV 850, which has an 850cc engine.

If you wait that half hour, that's your fault.

Nowhere in the article did they define what "burnout" means. So what does it mean? Can it be cured with a $250K salary?
Another useless study. I think I'm burned out on useless studies.
I'm all for poor people getting the first seats on these flights, provided that they are people who are illegally in the U.S. and the flights land in Chad.
Only if you're rich.
Otherwise, fuck you.
And why should it be any other way?
The solution to stuff like this is:
1). Get your own domain name and run e-mail off it.
2). Use a different email address for every bullshit service you sign up for...such as facebook@yourdomain.com, twitter@yourdomain.com, etc.
3). Forward all such addresses to your REAL e-mail address - the one you check.
4). When you break up with the bullshit service you signed up for, simply stop forwarding the email.
There are other benefits to this approach as well. I'll let you decide what they are.
Not really. AMC could fund the production of quality content if it wanted to, just like Netflix and Amazon do.
I heard Netflix is looking to buy a theater chain to put its stuff in. Maybe it will buy AMC (:
And the eels were all heard singing...
If you want to hang out, you've gotta take her out, cocaine
If you want to get down, get down on the ground, cocaine
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie,
Cocaine
If you got that lose, you want to kick them blues, cocaine
When your day is done, and you want to ride on cocaine
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie,
Cocaine
If your day is gone, and you want to ride on, cocaine
Don't forget this fact, you can't get it back, cocaine
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie,
Cocaine
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie,
Cocaine

I wonder why? And I wonder if they know what a monopoly is..because it's pretty clear Apple's app store isn't.
You can always request "dumbass" @yourstartup.com. While many may qualify, few will have the honesty to request it.
Yes. That's fine. I'm totally fine with that.
Everyone has a scam but me. Bastards!!
No. I'd like them all to stop doing business in the EU. Just pack their bags and get the fuck out.
This is why we need e.g. linux phones but they don't exist yet.
If there were sufficient demand for them, they would exist.
What is preventing the EU from coming up with a better: hardware combination? Better search engine? Better operating system?
Socialism.
