He is making a seperation between the better product and the better technology. Betamax may have had superior technology at its core, but when it came to putting out a product, VHS was superior.
You assume each album costs the same. Most of them, the ones you see in the bargain bin and such, probably cost a fair bit less to produce and bring to market than Britneys latest crap(Just think how much money they spend to convice people that chick can actually sing). So the high profile ones, probably do cost close to what they suggest. But the little bands that don't get the same distribution or marketing support probably are dirt cheap, making up for the expensive crap.
Excuse me for reading both the article and the Constitution, but Congress only has the authority to do this in the case of interstate commerce. They can require I verify the age of a buyer if I'm selling over the internet, but if I open a video game store, regulating what I sell to people who come in off the street is overstepping their bounds.
"More likely, I hope, consumers would avoid laserprinters that can't use 3rd-party toner cartridges, etc., enough that the market would drive the offensive uses of DMCA into irrelevance."
Never happen. The average sheep thinks this- "big brand name" == quality. Even those that buy generics would almost always prefer the "real thing"
Ultimate method- Open up the HD case, hook it up to a PS, and scrape the surface off with a chisel/screwdriver/something hard enough to dig a little into the platter. NO data will survive that.
Well, I imagine a nuclear furnace may be marginally more secure than my reccomendation, buit how many of us have one of those around?
I can see a method that could be used to break it.
All you do is set up something to pull the data off the output port when its going to the TV, compare it with the output being sent to another Tivo unit, and figure out the pattern to the differences.
Would that be easier to do than a simple brute force attack? Actually, would it take less time is what I mean, its obviously a more complicated method...
Actually, distributing and aquiring instructions on how to make a joint is perfectly legal in the US. ACtually making one however will run afoul of drug posession laws at least.
Some of the charm of buying mixed drinks at a bar is figuring out which bars and bartenders mix them *just* right for your tastes. This is too artificial...
I vaguely remember when I was 4, and another memory from even farter back though I don't know when. One memory might be from whne I was three(a new family moved in next door). And I remember eating tomato soup in my high chair and that my grandfather was over, that couldn't have been anytime past 2.
Clear and consistent memories- Not until 7 or 8...
My favorite things about my childhood memories thoguh were the ignorance I had- My dad was in the hosptial for a couple weeks with heart trouble. All I knew at the time was the hospital would make him better. I didn't realize how serious multiple week hospital stays really were. And since we stayed at my grandparents alot then, we got to see him all the time(they had a hole in their back fence, opened right onto the hospital parking lot). THen my mom was in a mental hospital with anorexia. All I remember are happy times when we visited and had hot chocolate. Then my grandmother had breast cancer. All I knew is the doctors made her better(her own kids didn't know till she went in for surgery- I think my grandfather was the only other person to be told sooner).
I wouldn't go back to that ignorance, but I'm glad it was there at the time so I didn't face all that pain before I could handle it.
Yes, they have the Windows Classic theme, which looks like 2k, though the dialog boxes and start menu and all still function with the XP enhancements. I use that theme myself, much less of a CPU/RAM hog than the default pretty one.
How many companies does this make that own all technology involved in the internet? At least 50. Why can't they sue each other, decide who holds the valid patents, and THEN sue websites.
Seperate accounts are the way to go. I have one hotmail account I use to register for websites, one hotmail account I use for real email, an AOL account I mostly ignore(my mom has AOL so I got myself a screen name for the rare few times I get bored and want to look through profiles for someone to talk to- thats about the only useful feature of AOL that isn't replicated as conveniently and effectively elsewhere on the net. And of course my.mil address only is used for military, ebay, and payapal. I get about one spam a week(some credit report thing) and none on the real hotmail. Hundereds of spams a day on the other hotmail though...
Getting multiple email accounts is so trivial everyone should do it.
We have to pursue advancement. It isn't in the human nature to sit back and be idle- People who don't go out and explore their world end up with lethargic bodies, minds, or both. Putting a space station up doesn't have a huge likelihood of destroying society, or even a measureable likelihood, and we can do it, thus we should, for the sake of the experience. How many of you have gone out and done something, that had no tangible benefit for anyone, and felt it was absolutely worth every cent and second you put into it? I bet most of you have. And the space program has produced tangible benefits on earth in many fields, so... Since we can, we should.
MITRE is one of the biggest consultants for the military. They are involved in damn near evey major exercise and many higher echelon units have MITRE personnel on their staff with the same security clearance the intelligence personnel have.
From what I remember reading, they went off and basically were never heard from again, except one that threw in with the corsairs to the southeast, but even he never made a significant impact after Sauron was thrown out of Mirkwood. I could be wrong though, I haven't read everything.
Liv Tyler impressed me most- McKellan and Lee, well I knew they would do a good job. The new people, well I didn't have an idea what to expect, so I was pretty open to seeing horrible acting and equally open to seeing brilliant acting.
But when I heard Liv Tyler was playing Arwen, I thought "well, Arwen was supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the world, so I guess they figured they needed a hot piece of ass for the role". But WOW. She actually pulled it off and I was thinking of her as Arwen, NOT as Liv Tyler.

OSX server was released at least 6 months to a year prior to the desktop variant.

And, did I just violate the DMCA?

No, Mandrake 8.0 was utter crap. 9.0 is solid.
It may be that it only knows how to make 188... IT certainly could do more with proper programming.

Not so much on the comments, but I have error messages like this:
"If you see this, I've done fucked up"
"You did something really dumb."
IF you are serious, fuck off and die.
If you are joking, you are really fucking stupid, you can expect the FBI to check you out if they see this.
I actually liked ET. Great game, got it for I think my 7th birthday...

Why? Because we can.

This is where companies like Mandrake and RedHat can come in, offering some sort of warranty and technical support.

When you are truly commited to something, NOTHING can stop you.

I'm not sure how old he got to... Normal humans could expect 120 barring violent death IIRC... the descendants of Numenor often lived even longer.
