It's my experience that these systems collect all the info a human operator would need, but when it eventually connects you to a human operator, they have no clue who you are and have to gather that information all over again. Why not just save time and money by playing hold music and have the customer give their information to a real human once?

What about all the bickering whether we should call it Linux or GNU/Linux/X11/Gnome/Mahjong? So much time is wasted over trivial things like this. Both sides should be happy they are in the Open Source movement and focus only on that.

One benefit I can think of is the price. Personally, I couldn't live without multiple workspaces. If I am chatting with a lot of friends, I have multiple windows open and it's nice to be able to switch over to a "clean" desktop if I need to edit a photo or something. I've found too that Linux runs much faster on the same machine running Windows and you don't have to do the yearly wipe / re-install to clean up all of the phantom crap that accumulates and slows down the computer.

Because of Kahn, after struggling with probability and statistics on my own, I'm able to calculate total probability given one or more conditions. The few calc videos I've watched have help there as well. Personally, I don't think Kahn is boring -- he's more interesting than my geometry teacher in high school who would give a lecture in front of an overhead projector.

It's really sad that anyone feels excluded from kernel hacking. If more women were involved in the programming arts, maybe we would have had something much nicer and more useful than that horrible kluge, Unity. (My personal feelings are that women are better at programming than men anyways because so much of it requires concrete thinking and less of the abstract!)

Maybe we should make a concerted effort as a whole community to be more welcoming to women. If someone has an idea how to make Linux faster, more stable and more secure, they should be lauded for their efforts, not derided!

The same problem is rampant in the gaming world. Many years ago, I used to work with a mother of two who loved Half Life and would systematically kick the asses of every other guy in the department. Facebook has shown, however, that they have no respect for basic privacy. There are many people that should never have a way to contact us.
