if any of these 'superpowers' staking claims on the moon does some stupid test and blows it up e.g. drilling a deep hole and dropping in powerful explosives and... what will the effect be for gravitational pull, tides, seasons, the spinning of a twirling little ball?
I know it sounds stupid, but is this not a realistic military threat to all mankind? *puts*on*tinfoil*hat*
The hard part of this is that it's not just what you put on the net about yourself. The Red Bull picture from the article was posted by someone else. It showed up on the defendant's Facebook page because it was tagged with his name, not because he posted it.
Facebook also has the ability for you to make the photo unavailable to anyone else if you were tagged
He's a dumbass!
was the title of a book by British astronomer Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe and when it made this same sort of claim it was laughed off as a crackpot theory.
Guess they're being proven to have been right all those years ago... imjussayinisall
...I came across Google Earth was in September 2005, and I remember what led me to it was a story about Italian person finding old Roman ruins while discovering some 'formations' near his home village
Aaw man, I was a little ten year old in 1985 in apartheid South Africa and learnt LOGO first on Vic-20 and later C64, there was also Tornado Notes (wordprocessor) and I remember hooking it up to the TV and playing Worm (amongst others) for hours, it had also this external tape drive with the programs coming on cassette tapes and ridiculous amounts of RAM like 16K or something.
Great memories indeed!!!
PS. Dude, I still got a copy of CP/M User Guide: Second Edition by Thom Hogan from 1982. It's amazing how things in the computing field has evolved, I'm not a programmer, but an enthusiastic user of all things to do with computers and met my first unix prompt at Stellenbosch University in 1993, then we had to telnet and gopher and talk and irc everywhere on DEC Alpha workstations running XWindows before Mosaic and Netscape came along.
Reminisce more like this, indeed.
And dont forget a few cards short of a full deck... Or the engine's running but there's no one behind the wheel
this smelt like a variation on the 419 theme from the get go, it's asswipes like these that make the world laugh at Africa and all the nonsense these monkeys get up to, like it was said previously just dont send them and make these monkeys explain why Africa is so fucked, talk about ingratitude!
You sir, need to head over to http://wap.getjar.com/ with your mobile phone and see all the quality apps developed and uploaded for testing and evaluation
With your desktop browser just go to www.getjar.com and see what's available there
and the best part of all these things are: they run in a java sandbox on your phone and uses gprs so you end up doing most everything you can do with a desktop browser, but on your phone and for the equivalent of a couple of cents
I have heard some complain about it running in a java sandbox and having to go through a couple of extra clicks of the joystick on the phone to get to them, but that is just silly considering the benefits you get
The way these people treat those that do not agree with them, the fact that they have latched on to a strange ideology from somewhere outside their culture, and the impulse to wanna overrun, dominate and control everything and then use their massive amounts of resources (cause they're so huge to begin with) strikes me as just plain psychotic and mentally ill.
What exactly are they after? Recognition? As being what? The most populous country on earth, the most violently repressive regime, the richest or the most powerful or the culturally superior? Pissing contests are sooo last millennium! Everyone knows China as the world's foremost assholes already, yet every major corporation and govt can't wait to enter the HUGE Chinese market. Just ask the Dalai Lama, a peaceful monk who sits and watches his breath all day and telling people to be nice to one another and what happened? His culture got destroyed and thousands of his people killed cause China needs more raw materials. Fuck them all to hell.
If there is a clinical psychologist on slashdot, I would like to get some insight into these kinds of phenomena. But then again, most biological organisms with some semblance of rationality know that human beings will do their damndest to fuck themselves and this planet up gloriously.
In Africa we see China involved in all sorts of very questionable maneouvres which only makes sense in a Machiavellian realpolitik type scenario. We now see the West scrambling to build a presence in Africa, with China closing more and more and bigger and better deals with the African monkeys who run their respective countries. Thus we see a situation where an insane lunatic like Robert Mugabe can still be invited to a world summit and tell the West to go fuck themselves cause China has made some strategic infrastructure and other trade and energy related investments and the West is trying to not let it slip too far toward the East.
Of course there is also the threat from radical Islamic elements playing their sinister, poisonous games with the African monkeys' minds.
And I am South African myself, but would rather be a wage slave in the US, UK, Australia or Canada and put up with the shortcomings of western capitalist democracy than anything these critters have to offer. Just by the statistics of Chinese and Muslims and whatever else not wants to get into the UK, US, EU or Australia/Canada with such a passion it is beyond reason, but ask any Muslim or Chinese or anyone who has gripes with the West and America why dont they go back to the holes they crept out of and leave the "corrupt" west to it's own devices. But I see Chinese and Muslims wearing Western clothes, speaking in Western languages and involved in all sorts of Western cultural activities. Something does not square up somewhere...
Chinese, Muslim, Russian, Communists, whatever, I would rather die than subject myself to such soul-crushing insanity, I want to think and do and say as I fuckin feel like, within the limits of law and civilized human behaviour. I do not want to be dictated to by some asshole with a gun or strapped on explosives or whatever because I say or think differently. Why kill someone over a different neuronal firing pattern?
No I think these guys are insane, the only reason I take them seriously is the unreasonable amount of damage and devastation they can cause with their evil "machinery", I say Nuke 'Em! (Kidding!!!)
And with stuff like http://freetechbooks.com/freetechbooks for instance and the http://ocw.mit.edu/MIT openCourseware it really is beside the point whether you get credit or a "real-life" experience, whoever derives whatever value from this resource do so for their specific reasons and their specific conditions and circumstances and therefore this sharing of valuable life tools need to be commended
... I would implement the one-time password sent to mobile phone which is the method my internet banking site uses: you log in with card number, customer selcted pin and password
the login page also has BIG warnings: do not click on any links (relating to your banking or purporting to be) or give your banking details to anyone on the internet or in an e-mail since the bank or it's employees will never ask for it
then when you are on your profile page, before you can do any transaction at all, the site sends an SMS to your mobile with a one-time password
only after entering this password are you allowed into your main account and can start banking
i.e verifying your physical presence as well as being good security measure for online banking sessions
of course you need to set all this up with your bank beforehand, but with new financial regulations in south africa you go through a long process of verifying your identity and proof of address in person in a bank each year, so from the beginning this type of scheme has robust security
this has worked very well and i need to hear of an instance of it being circumvented other than criminals holding a gun to your head while you do your banking, which puts the whole thing in another category altogether
people who get scammed by clicking on links and falling for Nigerian type fund relocation schemes only has their own stupidity and greed to blame
this brings back fond memories of me as a ten year old kid way back in 1985 learning logo on a commodore vic20, later 64, with tape drives and hooking it up to the television and making the turtle go forward 50 and right 90
repeat 4 [fd 50 rt 90]
the sinclair zx spectrum was reserved for my older cousin who used it to run VUcalc off of a cassete tape, i remember being amazed at the small silver keyboard with the little rubber keys, it looked like something from a sci-fi movie for my ten year old eyes
he was also very proud of tornado notes, an early word processing pogram
today with a pentium4 3.2Ghz and 1Gb RAM this seems like centuries ago, but good memories nevertheless...
I would just use opera mini that even has a RSS feed reader, thus I am in bed now and posting this from my mobile. My gmail and internet banking and the whole web in my hand in bed for a couple of cents. You can do most anything you can do from desktop. Testmy.net returns a speed of 384kbps and I can see peacefire.org just fine thank you. And u wanna know the best part: i'm in south africa. So why waste time and money with all the lame solutions I've seen posted so far? Just my 0.02...
I can't believe this even warrants a Wall Street journal, never mind/. article. Opera mini has been free since late 2005 and their small screen rendering tech is the best thing since bread came sliced. The latest version 3.1 even has a RSS feed reader. it is now 6:15am and i am in bed reading my/. Feeds, my gmail and anything else on the web even internet banking for a couple cents. Going to testmy.net gives a 384kbps reading and I can view anything including the peacefire site and you wanna know the best part: i'm high up in the mountains in south africa
Here in South Africa my internet banking site had a random virtual keypad on the login page that got discontinued due to not being used by the rest of their users and i thought that was pretty dumb cause you cant have too much security yeah?
Now i receive notices from them about phishing sites and not to give your login details to anyone! (snicker!)
anyways now they have a thing called one time password where they send you a unique number with a time limit to your mobile or e mail that you must enter before your account allows you to do anything after login...
that kind of make one sleep a little better but paranoid old me put zone alarm security suite in such a configuration that every single thing that comes into or goes out of every port must be ok'ed by me
it also hides ur computer IP so ur basically "invisible"
also try and do things on ur mobile with opera mini, web pages go through proxy first and you are able to see things which some people (ISP block certain range of IPs) cannot i.e peacefire.org
and the data cost savings is unbelievable and you can do most of everything from your mobile in opera mini including gmail where you can view pdf and other office type formats on their server from on ur phone
for close on one year now that is how my system remained clean and continues to do so
i also use firefox 2 and opera9 on pc and dont do business with banking or e commerce sites that require IE or javascript functionality
with those kind of measures ur largely bypassing many of the things Gozi exploits but it wont be long before someone comes up with the next clever piece of crap that makes all these precautions useless
that time is 'cyclical' for the Mayans is not in dispute, let us not get into semantic sophistry here, the point is that the current time cycle, by their reckoning, 'concludes itself', 'run it's course', 'completes itself', 'comes full circle', whatever politically correct terminology you may want to employ, point is the 'transitional' phase before the next 'cycle' begins is somewhat of a mystery, hence all the speculation, serious or not, about the 'END' of time and what possibly could happen when it does 'come around'
anyone ever read Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the Gods? or his Heaven's Mirror. all this stuff sounds loony on the face of it, but many bright mathematicians are still working on trying to unravel the Mayan "mysteries" namely their calender and intricate system of mathematics, and what happens is that these people's system of timekeeping, which is mathematically more precise and accurate than any we "moderns" have developed thus far, comes to an end, stops, on the Julian calender equivalent 23 December 2012!
I wonder how far plans are to colonize Mars or establish settlements on the moon, won't be finished in time anyways...
ah well...
