I don't think that unlocking save games and showing off the size of your e-penis...er, I mean trophies... is going to disrupt anything. I remember having Game Genies all those years ago and no one was hurt then either.

    I could not agree more.

For me, unknown actors actually enhance a film. I have no previous attachment to them and can actually see them solely as the character they're playing. I can't do that with big name stars, because I always see them as "so-and-so" from that other film.

That's not to say that I want b-movie acting, but honestly, most theater folk out there can do just as well as any a-list actor could. The only thing that makes Will Smith any better than some random guy down at the local drama club is the way the studio markets his name.

I mean seriously, a Heavy Metal remake?

It's my understanding that it isn't intended to be a remake. It will be another collection of separate short stories, like the original film adaptation was. This is in opposition of the far inferior Heavy Metal 2000, which was one long plot.

The problem I have with what has been proposed for the new Heavy Metal is that a lot of the people involved have shown themselves to have a strong fascination with CGI. That's not what Heavy Metal is and doing so would ruin it. Heavy Metal 2000 already suffered from that in a lot of ways, where the majority of the film was poorly done cell animation, with a lot of the action being outright computer generated 3D crap. Nevermind that it was one long, boring plot line instead of multiple threads... oh, and most of the music sucked. :(

The original Heavy Metal is still a favorite of mine. Few things beat the sequence that takes place aboard the B-17. Slain crew members come back as zombies, all to the awesome riffs of Don Felder's "Taking a Ride". If nothing else, that song makes the sequence.

I guess I simply fail to even see the appeal in trying to read in such an atmosphere. Cafes can be quite distracting... they're no libraries after all. When you don't give or receive many phone calls over the course of a month, you can ditch your land-line and stick with a pay-as-you-go cellphone for your main home phone. Helluva lot cheaper.

I've been considering just that for quite some time now, actually. The problem for me though, is that reception is not the best in my neck of the woods. Lots of hills and little valleys around that exist solely to impede technology's way. I've compromised and hooked up a MagicJack to my server. The quality is good enough for what little I use it for, and the price is definitely right.

While cost of living is definitely better outside of the cities, a lot of us choose to reside out here for other reasons. Peace, privacy, low pollution, low crime rates, no stupid city ordinances, etc. The only good thing to come from living within a city is convenience.

I have a $20 disposable, pay-as-you-go mobile phone that I picked up from Family Dollar a few years back. I only turn it on when I'm leaving the house, and it's only used when communication is necessary. All it does is make voice calls and send texts, though I've never even done the latter.

People really need to disconnect. It's sad to see people that simply can't put their phones down for a few minutes, because making that Twitter post is so important.

All fine points. However, I worry about what's going on with PC developers as well. There are no real communities nowadays... You don't see massive fan communities that build various mods, maps, and custom characters like you used to. Think back to the days of Quake III Arena or Unreal Tournament. You won't find anything on that scale right now, and likely never will again. Games are being squeezed tighter and tighter to conform to the designer's will... that's why we have "weekly mutators" chosen and forces on us in things like Left 4 Dead, because implementing a proper mutator system (where you can mix and match) would be impossible for the console kiddies.
