My point was that Quake 3 needs a more modernized remake, and that Quake Live is not that remake. While very little gameplay tweaks would be necessary, voice chat would be an absolute requirement.
I like hosting LAN games. Relying on a remote server is not ideal. Having the option isn't bad, but I don't want it to be the only option. The game developers wouldn't loose anything by letting me foot the server overhead if I wanted.
Obscure maps? Quake 3 had the most lively community of any game before or since. It's the very thing that made it as great as it was, and kept it alive a lot longer than it probably should have been. There are plenty of user-created maps that are more populated and widely played than even the Id Software provided ones... save for DM17, of course.
Yes... No gore. Why would you even remove that? If anything, the game could stand to benefit from more gore.:P
Quake Live is terrible though. No voice chat, no option to privately host a game? No mod support or custom maps? No gore?! It's an extremely watered-down version of Q3. I don't really know why anyone chooses it over the original.
As for those pro-types turning their graphics down... well, they're idiots and always have been.
Darkplaces is an awesome experience once you update all of the textures and models. Really though, Quake needs to be longer. The story was never fleshed out (even to the happy extent that Quake 2 was) and the ending battle with their version of Shub-Niggurath was a tad underwhelming. I'd really like to see a real sequel or remake of the first Quake, Lovecraftian themes and all!
Furthermore, a proper remake of Quake III Arena would also be very fitting. Not much would need to change gameplay wise, but the graphics could benefit from an overhaul... perhaps do it more in the style of the old Generations Arena mod?:)
That's how I feel about stores and gas stations, not just friends. I don't like being tracked, and rarely use my debit card. Online purchases make it unavoidable and is really the only area where I accept it as a necessity.
I honestly would not know, as I've never tried the Kinect setup. I'd assume that the player would tire pretty quick from physically hacking and slashing though.:P
You got ripped off then. You can build a very nice computer, capable of far more than any console, for a modest price. Then you can keep it going longer than a console by making simple upgrades every few years. All it takes is some planning and foresight.
If the state had ample evidence they wouldn't have to worry about plea bargains. Of course, most plea bargains are struck because the prosecutors think that they can get at bigger fish up stream. How's that for justice? Rat someone else out and you're free to go!
You know what they could do? Nothing. The students who did well own their own accord get to keep their grade, and the students that cheated can live with the valuable lesson that they learned... that the real world isn't fair, and those that play by the rules never get ahead.
Studied the subject instead of a subset of questions in preparation for a test? I don't know what schools you've been going to, but that's not how it works. No one cares if you know the subject, just so long as you seem to... that's what tests are for. That's what college as a whole is for. It's all for appearances. Substance has no real place in modern education.
That's not pretty cool at all. What he admitted to by offering such a compromise was that he had no way of identifying or proving who cheated. It's the same way parents deal with young children, and cops deal with student criminals: "Is there something you'd like to tell us? We know what you did, even though we won't tell you exactly what you did... but we're here to help. Just tell us what you did so we can figure out how to deal with it." Yeah, right.
Thank you! Mythbusters is just a bunch of guys goofing around. The scientific method rarely plays a part in their form of entertainment. Besides, am I the only one who thinks the main guys' personalities (especially the one without the beret) are annoying as heck?
I really don't see the Xbox's controller as being all that different either. The Wii doesn't seem to attract much interest from developers at all.
Diablo would really have to become more of a third-person hack-n-slash to work decently with a gamepad. Until then, the mouse and keyboard aren't going anywhere.
I'd hate to break it to you, but Sony has done very little to change their controller. It's essentially the same as it was during the PSone era. It's not all that different, as the controller was what primarily held Diablo back from at least being a passable experience on consoles.
Having played Diablo 3 at Blizzcon, I can say that the game would very easily make the transition to consoles.
How?!
I recall one of my friends having a port of the first Diablo for his PS1 back in the day. It was fucking terrible. Of course, he thought it was great because he didn't know any better. The truth was that the controls sucked, the graphics sucked, and the camera was zoomed in so close to the character that every hallway became an ambush. Fuck that.
Of course, the consoel gamers would be much more accepting of Blizzards fuck ups at least. No local multiplayer? Constant internet connect required for spying? Console kiddies don't care, just give them a microphone to trash talk and they'll be happy.
Hopefully it goes a little better on Mars. I don't think that there are any indigenous people on Mars to show the settlers how to grow and process their food to survive. Too bad all of those European settlers weren't just left to die and desperately eat each others corpses and shoe leather.
My only broadband option is Time Warner. I've used various satellite providers over the years and refuse to call them a "broadband option". Most people around here can't even get that due to the hills and valleys and are stuck with 26kbps dial-up! Unless you're right in the middle of the closest town, DLS isn't a viable option either.

Quake 2 had just enough story to string the levels together and make the boss fights feel significant. Quake 1 needs that as well.

How would I have something I purchased shipped to a fake address? Usually when I purchase things, I like to receive them a few days later. :P

But to truly stop the human chess resistance, the robots will have tog o back in time and stop Bobby Fischer from ever being born...

Well now, doesn't that sound like just the kind of response someone who is still in debt from some useless college would come up with?
You know what they could do? Nothing. The students who did well own their own accord get to keep their grade, and the students that cheated can live with the valuable lesson that they learned... that the real world isn't fair, and those that play by the rules never get ahead.

a gaming rig is also several times more expensive than a game console
Hyperbole.
Do you recall how much the PS3 and 360 were when they came out? I guess not.

Or the entirety of Rope? I mean, so long as we're on the subject of Hitchcock and long takes.

Flamebait, seriously? This is the only logical comment I've read so far!
No, I wouldn't download a house, but I sure as heck want to be able to sell the one I bought when I'm done with it.
I'd download a new house in a heartbeat!
Curious about where you live.

It is sometimes. For example, they should be charging the Safari users more, as those Mac fanboys will pay anything if it's marketed right.
