I hope it DOES catch on - for a while.
It will give consumers a financial incentive to switch to FOSS - every time a bill comes due. B-) I genuinely hope you are right.
This is Microsoft's way of demonstrating once and for all that you don't "own" the software you purchase. I hope this doesn't catch on and become the primary distribution model. If we don't own the software we purchase then the manufacturer does not have to guarantee any proper functionality.
More like the middle-class pay for everything. I'm unsure how your can read and reply to our posts above with this statement after actually reading the information we gave you. I can agree that tax strain on the middle class feels high. But with the top 5% of income earners paying well over half the taxes, your assessment that we as middle class are paying for "everything" hardly holds water.
That's simply untrue. The "rich" (*those making over $200,000/year) who make up about 5% of the population pay the vast majority of taxes in this country. You can't cut taxes on the poor when they already don't pay them. The bottom 50% (income bracket) of people in the country pay about 3% of taxes. That's right. 3.

And a Kleenex is a type of facial tissue, but many people use it to refer to all types of facial tissue. Similarly, OSS is a type of free software, just as free ware is a type of free software. 2 categories of the same group.
There is nothing preventing free software to be distrubuted from the iPhone App Store. I'm working on one to release, probably for free. The barriers are for Open Source Software, which just happens to usually be free.
You see this in the US, where schools and hospitals are run purely to generate profit... Funny thing is, I was in the ER last with with my two-year-old, and there was a big sign that says (in summary) "We will take care of you even if you can't pay." Come to think of it, it's in EVREY hospital in the country.
As long as the ad was a single page and was simple to dismiss, that would work VERY well. I have to go through about 3 pages at Panera to use their free wi-fi. It's annoying. But I use it because it's free. So maybe My point isn't that valid after all.
This does not make any sense, Apples iTunes is not from Microsoft. The story is about Microsoft providing Blu-ray for the Xbox, not a 3rd party providing it. Nope. You missed it. The comment was in response to the statement that nobody would support something for a competitor. Microsoft and Apple are the last time I checked...
my purchase does not "expire". I want to own my music. And if it doesn't expire and I can get unlimited songs, just how expensive would this premium be? I expect it would be significant.
Mod +1: Scary
That's (Apple's) Profit!!!
...and so can a 17 year old kid: http://www.macnn.com/articles/08/05/02/bridger.maxwell.multitouch/ And he used a Mac. Much cooler.
That's why you combine it with a unique PIN that only you know. Just like CAC ID cards in the military.
Twelve dollars?!?!?!?? Are they having a special sale??
I always look for those "belkin54g" hotspots. They're everywhere!

Edge and WiFi are open for use in iPhone apps. I'm trying to integrate a small AdSense ad at the bottom of one page of the app.

I would love to see the Fair Tax enacted and every other tax disappear. http://www.amazon.com/FairTax-Answering-Critics-Neal-Boortz/dp/0061540463/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196436087&sr=8-4 Read. Learn. This goes for everyone.
Who actually buys stuff from Wal-Mart?

...it does NOT run Linux.
If everyone counter-sued the heck of them. And won. Maybe.
I understand your point. It was implied that I want to own that copy. And I do. No one can take it from me once I purchase an iTunes+ track.

companies in the US would catch on. DRM is a dead horse. And it's been beaten to a pulp.
Mac have comparable prices for equivilent quality. Big difference. I'm glad my Mac isn't as "cheap" as a lot of the PCs I see.
