I have MAC OS 10.2 and instead of using Apple's useless 1 bouton mouse thingy I opted for a Logitech cordless optical 3 button wheelmouse.

Guess what? It all works, the buttons, the wheelmouse, etc.. The right mouse button works just like a PC user would expect.. context menus.

People should look into an issue before just spewing crack out of their mouths.

  5. Verisign's REAL problem on VeriSign DNS in Trouble · · Score: 1

The problem that ICANN is opting to ignore is Verisign's blaten anti-trust policies. For example, if you have a domain registered with another registrar.. i.e. Tucows and you want to add a new DNS server to that domain and make that change at Tucows then it will take 24 to 72 hours to update at all registrars in the world, except for Verisign. They maintain the global database and it does get updated but if someone has a domain registered with Verisign it will take at least a week of harsh over the phone negotiations with them to get them to add it to thier local database. It's obviously an attempt to discredit other registrars and it's just not fair.

  6. Well! I'll be a monkeys uncle! on Chimps, AIDS, And Immunity · · Score: 1

This sounds like research for research's sake. I mean what are they trying to say don't worry HIV will only wipe out 90% of humans. Not comforting and completly untrue. Say for example that it was SIV that wiped out 90% of chimps and the only ones left is ones that were genetically disposed to fighting SIV. The problem with trying to corolate that with HIV and humans is that humans have another tool besides being amongst the luck 10% that have an imune system that can fight it. That other tool is our minds. Humans can avoid unsafe activities. Ask a chimp to do that? Just imagine what the mortality rate of humans would be if we were all still running around having unsafe sex at the drop of a hat..... ahhhh the 70's ;P

Anyways, what good is this research going to do? It seems that the only thing in the article that makes sense was the quote "It's important to understand mechanisms of disease and resistance in order to help develop vaccines" I just don't see this research doing any of that.

How Apple benefits is that the more people that use Rendezvous the more their protocol of choice is accepted as a defacto standard. How it helps the Rendezvous program grow is simple: The more contributors to a project the better. It's the basics of any open source business model. Think for a minute about all the things that were first conceived of through open source are now commercialy accepted. For example it's commonly know that Microsoft uses the BSD TCP/IP stack.

  8. PIX is not good for large networks on Build a Cisco PIX for 800 Australian Dollars · · Score: 1

I have been in network security for about 9 years now and I believe that PIX fails when you go over 2 or 3 networks. The problem is that you have to define security levels to each network. Though this may sound straight forward at first glance it does not work in the world of corporate security. You need to have a much more definable network security policy.

Pix would be best used as a border firewall with maybe 3 interfaces (Internet, internal, and Sync). Although this is still a packet filter and does not take state into considiration, but that's another story...

I would be interested in trying this with a Nokia box running Check Point. If you look at an IP440 it is clearly just a PC running IPSO (BSD diriv).

It has become clear, more so ever day, that Verisign is trying to use its power to maintain it's monopoly over the domain registration market.
It seems to be a clear cut case of ANTI-trust if I have ever seen one!

There latest tactic has been to deny domain transfer of expired domains unless the domain holder pays another term before transfering. I was witness to this today and I just cannot belive that they would have the gall to attempt such an apperntly illegal activity!

Besides trying to extort money from current domain holders that want to leave Verisign I have seen blaten abuse when it comes to adding new DNS servers into the database. When someone creates a new DNS server and reports it to thier registrar (i.e. an OpenSRS registrar) that should automaticly update the main database that Verisign maintains. But instead they do not get updated. When you speak to someone at Verisign they say you HAVE to goto a Verisign site and register the DNS server. Even after doing this it may take weeks or months to be actived and in some cases it never happens!

I have spoken with several OpenSRS registrars and it seems clear to all of them that Verisign is using it's muscle to avoid competing in a open market!

The only thing I can think of to do is to shine light on this issue and make everyone aware of thier Illegal tactics!

If you have also seen these types of issues help me spread the word! I don't know if this is happening with other (besides OpenSRS) registrars but I can't imagine that they would target just one, unless this is just the begining!
