I couldn't agree more. When new people or journalists in search of information or background for a story come to this site and see that and the broken Windows icon, the first conclusion that they're likely to make is that they won't find much of an objective nature here, i.e. "Oh, this is just a site for a bunch of zealots, nevermind".
Now, it's true that the forum is opinions and commentary, as it should be, but should this extend to the stories and visual icons of the site? One is much less likely to believe someone with an obvious agenda, and I think that's why behavior like this does more to hurt the editors' objectives than to further them.
Apparently not, because I fail to see any ironic relationship between this (non) story and my post. I'm confident, antiMStroll, that you'll be happy to explain it to me in the most pejorative of terms, however.
Please *mod parent up*! I was going to say the same thing. Then again, maybe the editors of/. enjoy having this website being perceived as a bunch of petty anti-MS zealots with an axe to grind, credibility be damned.
Memo to editors: You do no favors for the popularity of [insert favorite OS here] by posting sophomoric, vindictive, and largely irrelevant stories about Bill Gates. On the contrary, it makes you (and what you advocate, by association) look immature.
Let me rephrase..."obvious troll" as in "a troll that is so blatantly obvious that anyone with a sense of humor whatsoever will see it for the joke that it is." Sorry, I guess that would leave you out of the above group.
It's just another example of some heartless corporation who runs roughshod over the rights of the "little guy". We should do everything we can to negate the influence of this EVIL corporat...what? No, this is Windows they're talking abou...oh, you mean it's just a Windows lookalike...ohhhhhhh....
Nevermind.
(Dammit! So much for picking up a cheap +5 Insightful...)
Q: You are lost in a foreign city, you don't speak the language and you are late for your meeting. What do you do?
A: Do just like all of the other PHBs who were stupid enough to get stuck like that, i.e. screw the meeting, find the nearest bar, and start blowing the company expense account on cheap booze and hookers.
I like listening to the Zero-Point Energy theorists. That is at least as interesting as any conspiracy theories that Hoagland comes up with, and it sounds like there is at least some serious scientific effort going into figuring out if it actually exists, and if so, how to tap into it.
...Hoagland IS very interesting to listen to. I'll give him that much. I don't believe most of what he says, but you know what they say, even a blind dog will find a bone every once in a while.
It is entertaining listening to him go on Coast to Coast AM, though.
Do a search for 'Microsoft' on/. and see what happens. The returns are BLATANTLY anti-Microsoft! It must be a conspiracy! Those people at/. are OBVIOUSLY out to get Microsoft! They are evil, and must be STOPPED!
See how silly it sounds when you turn it around? Next story, thanks.
The US media is right-wing, not left. You can't even question that.
Sure I can...what are you basing this observation on? FOX News? Sure, they probably do lean to the right, there's no denying that, but they would also happen to be the exception to the rule. In any case, you certainly can't paint with as broad a brush as you would like.
O'Reilly? Say what you will about him, but there's an important distinction here. His show is obviously an opinion-based program, much in the same vein as a 'Crossfire' or 'Hannity & Colmes', and is not about reporting the news.
You'll notice how the media in the US doesn't show Bush in a bad light, ever.
Yeah, I guess I was just imagining this whole flap about his National Guard service. I guess I didn't really see that press conference where his press secretary was bombarded with the most inane questions imaginable about it. Did you hear about the accounts from the men who served with him during that time, who claim that he was a great aviator and did his duty very well? Did you hear that he actually signed up to go to Vietnam, but wound up not going? Not if you didn't dig for these stories. Are they true? Who knows? Are they as newsworthy as the things that the media are focusing on. Gee, you would think, but apparently our "right-wing" media thinks otherwise.
Meanwhile, did you hear about the sex scandal involving John Kerry and an intern? Barely. Is this true? Who knows? Is it newsworthy? Gee, you would think, but, again, apparently our "right-wing" media thinks otherwise.
As far as the "Deaniacs" moniker, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the "Deaniacs" come up with that one themselves?
The BBC? Honestly, I can't say that I've watched it enough to form an opinion, so I'm not going to call them anything other than British.
That may or may not be true, but it is wholly beside the point. What is hypocrisy and what is not should not be up to the media to decide. The point here is that there were two very similar actions that were taken by two people of very similar stature, and these actions were treated very differently by the media. That, dear AC, is the definition of 'bias', whether you believe it or not.
At least if Newt Gingrich divorcing his cancer victim wife was worth so much ink, the circumstances of Kerry's first divroce should be worth mentionion.
Well, see, the problem with that is that Gingrich made the fatal mistake of doing it while being a (gasp) Republican. Kerry, on the other hand, has the good sense to at least make sure that he's a Democrat when he misbehaves, which, of course, means he gets an automatic free pass from our "objective" media.
Sorry, I can't help you with your hack, as I use an offset firebox smoker (the New Braunfels type), and am not familiar with the water smoker. I do get ash that blows into the main pit from the firebox every once in a while, so I have thought about putting a piece of screen in the opening between them. I don't know if it would get "gunked up" over time or not.

Why do you say that? You assume much.
Nice troll.
...why do I care? I'll be dead.
You really have no concept of irony, do you?
Apparently not, because I fail to see any ironic relationship between this (non) story and my post. I'm confident, antiMStroll, that you'll be happy to explain it to me in the most pejorative of terms, however.
Fire away.
I'm a "corporate sycophant"? For that post? Congratulations, that may be the most beautiful ad hominem attack post in /. history.

Memo to editors: You do no favors for the popularity of [insert favorite OS here] by posting sophomoric, vindictive, and largely irrelevant stories about Bill Gates. On the contrary, it makes you (and what you advocate, by association) look immature.
Just stop it.
Let me rephrase..."obvious troll" as in "a troll that is so blatantly obvious that anyone with a sense of humor whatsoever will see it for the joke that it is." Sorry, I guess that would leave you out of the above group.
...and yet, my obvious troll gets modded 'Insightful' anyway. Now that is truly funny. Maybe it was supposed to be a 'Meta-Insightful' mod.
So I guess those pictures on her site just took themselves, eh?

Weren't there rumblings a while back about doing a Quake movie? If done right (a big if), it could be interesting.
No, he'd say something like this: "The message from the government here seems to be clear, stay out of the Earth, and BTW, Microsoft is EVIL."

What happens if you try to watch Mythbusters on MythTV? Something like matter-antimatter annihilation?

Last weekend I hacked up a bunch of mesquite logs and created a nice smoked beef brisket.
So it's hard coded? Figures...
