I'm trying to imagine, if I were an omnipotent being, why the hell I would bother with all that.
Then it hit me. God is playing the ULTIMATE version of Sid Meier's Civilization. God chose to play as the Americans, and everyone else gets free will because we are the AI players.
I personally think god isn't doing very well economically; and he needs to increase his science rate.
The best web designers can do given the state of things, is to make a site work with all browsers.
Then have enhanced visuals for browsers that support it. IE users probably won't notice under all those pop-ups and spyware anyway, and if they fall into the "must use IE because of corporate policy", then at least they will be able to use the site, whilst understanding why it looks like shit.
What exactly is the problem with skeletons? I'm guessing it's something to do with superstition of ancestor worship.
Fear not! Skeletons would make lousy human rights campaigners. Their lack of skeletal muscle...or actually any muscle renders their opposable thumbs useless.
The one liberty that they shouldn't have messed with. There will be a real life city raid (bloody revolution in Beijing), and China will be a democracy by May.
Why isn't there a decent open source PDF reader? Not Sumatra, it's just a little too basic.
I'm not volunteering though, I just don't care enough about PDF as a format, but it seems odd that nobody does. In theory the PDF format isn't that bad, but people mostly experience it though Adobe's reader which causes most of the problems.
So for the advertisers opt-out is what they'll choose, and yet that's the quickest way to the black-list of anyone who has the knowledge to make that choice.
Although I agree with your KILL IT sentiments on principle, in what way are we stuck with it even today?
You don't have to use IE, and if you use windows you can't uninstall it, but you can lock it down so it's less of a security hole. That just leaves developers...but I don't remember the last time I saw a site that used ActiveX.
I heard that some banks do, though that would be one ghetto bank. And apparently a load of South Korean websites use it, so that's pretty limited damage if it goes the same way as everything else Microsoft named ^Active(.*)$
Whether you have a valid point depends on if net access is as important as water and electricity, or is just some frivolous entertainment.
What pisses me off is that government will pass a law triviality cutting someone off, and yet it's important enough that they will spend public money to make sure everyone is connected. They need to choose one coherent approach.
I don't think this is an accurate description of how either system of government works. It's also not the role of government to implement "grand plans".
To add a measure of car analogy. Individuals and companies are the engine, whilst government is just the oil in the sump.
"Piracy" really does deliver the best convenience money can't buy.
Here is a list of crap that I won't put up with: Unskippable DVD menus. Region locks. Content that expires before I'm ready to let it go. Waiting a week longer than American audiences (BBC iplayer) Commercials. Ghetto satellite dish on my house. Somebody else's schedule. Inability to pause. Driving to rent/buy physical media. The redundant TV screen itself.
According to BBCs Horizon, the UK spends more on ring tones than the world spends on fusion research.
In terms of energy we are screwed, but at least we have custom ring tones.
People just don't want 3.5" floppies these days.
Yes, we are all "tragically" unequal, but social engineering isn't the answer. We *should* all be equal under the law.

Weird, I stumbled across this subject completely at random just last week.

Post the link here otherwise I can't make an informed opinion.
It's a beta. You don't get auto-updated to beta versions.
This one is only news worthy because it has some cool new features
Then get some security.
No unlocked car or house door analogy is even slightly useful in this case.
Computer security by law is worse than security by obscurity, or security by Symantec product.
Agree 100%

Pretty impress CV; I'd hire him.
Don't worry guys, I read the summary this time, and it only affects the German version of ext4.

Also, stop fucking advertising for foxit.
Then only criminals will play video games?
Fine, use a powder made from AOL trial CDs. That's a limitless resource.
Can we not call it timeshift. Sounds way cooler than it really is.
I don't remember anyone saying "I'll use my VCR to timeshift all my viewing to a more convenient time".
Most people are too lazy to opt either in OR out.
So for the advertisers opt-out is what they'll choose, and yet that's the quickest way to the black-list of anyone who has the knowledge to make that choice.

It was renamed IceCat

I presume politicians are corrupt until proven honest.

Yep, TV lost.
