Blood does a better job with the horror genre. Doesn't matter that it's not scary. They pulled off the atmosphere beautifully.
    I mean spooky carnival? C'mon.

You can compare anything to anything, regardless of the time in which they were released. It just depends entirely what criteria you're judging them on. A good example is the Star Wars movies, and their atrocious prequals.

The AI in blood worked just fine. It's true it doesn't have any complex AI, but that doesn't detract from the gameplay. It is also true that the mouse support for blood was dodgey. I managed to get it working properly on Dosbox though, and it plays just like any proper keyboard and mouse FPS. Mind you there is something to be said for cutting your teeth on FPS's that only used the keyboard..

I claim that FEAR isn't as good as Blood because I've seen the sort of quality Monolith can produce, even in this ancient game. Then I look at FEAR; which is just a generic shooter with no style to speak of. If Monolith could bring back the genius they had in Blood and incorporate it into something with modern graphics they'd actually have something worth selling.

  2. Monolith has a past man... on Review: F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin · · Score: 3, Insightful

The problem is Monolith made Blood, which is the greatest first person shooter ever made. So any subsequent first person shooters they make are going to be compared to that. Unfortunately their latest foray into the horror FPS genre doesn't even come close to the genius of Blood.

How convenient. I just bought a copy of Left4Dead brought it home and tried to install it only to discover the CD key that came with the game was already in use (which is odd since the game was in a sealed package). So I went off to valve support to try and get the situation remedied. Their support is anything but efficient or helpful. So then I went back to the store where I bought the game to get an exchange. Wouldn't you know it they have a policy of not having anything to do with games that have been opened. So for the time being thanks to copy protection I'm out $50 for a legitimate copy of a game. Add this story to the big board. Next time I want a game I'll just download the cracked version.

Just giving something a keyboard and mouse doesn't make it a PC. They're just input peripherals. It'd still be a gaming machine. The idea would be to get away from the mind numbing expense of PC's and have the ease of use of console gaming.

  9. Re:Eww new console news already. How nice. on Intel To Design PlayStation 4 GPU · · Score: 1

I do realize that, yes. That's what I'm saying. First person shooters and strategy games would do a lot better on consoles if keyboards and mice were available. Plus they could have better internet capabilities on consoles. And there're things like mmorpgs that'd benefit as well. I can see the next gen consoles being powerful enough so there's no excuse to rely on PCs for gaming anymore.

In my case I've pretty much given up playing games on my pc. There're better games on the consoles, and like you said, they're ready to go out of the box (unless you're running a game that requires some idiotic install). For the amount I'd spend on upgrades on my PC I could get a PS3, and the thing has a built in blu ray player. So really the deck's stacked against PC's.

It'll be interesting to see what the new consoles come up with (I have a hunch it'll entail more hard drive space, better graphics and processors) If the console makers actually use full keyboard and mouse support for their new consoles they could do a lot of damage to the pc gaming market. I mean A LOT. Really, I mean it.

That'll be a welcome change. Battlefield 1942 was way too focused on who got to fly the plane, shooting down whoever go the plane before you, trying to park a jeep on the plane to see if it could take off with it, trying to do a bridge loop in the Market Garden level with the plane, winding up as a tail gunner in a plane and shooting the tail out for sheer spite, and trying to stand on the plane while it was flying.

Rogers may not be your only option. I was previously under the impression that either Bell or Rogers were my only options for internet. Then I found out about Teksavvy, and switched over to them. Significantly less bullshit, and WAY WAY WAY cheaper.
Before I was getting nailed with $70-$80 bills every month from Bell and they'd just put 'bandwidth usage' with the added cost of all the gigs I went over my 50 gig limit (not being terribly specific in that regard mind you). Plus the bastards were throttling my connection.

Nice thing with Teksavvy is they have an unlimited bandwidth option and it's cheaper than Rogers.

The reasoning for this was because of all the different groups who use them. Whereas when Microsoft does this sort of thing it's inherently bad because it's just a blatant cash grab, and not an attempt to broaden their market.

I think Bungie, or Microsoft or whoever thinks that Halo is so bloody popular because it's Halo. Which is probably true, but only in the realms of first person shooters. Once you take all that generic space marine action and bring it into the realm of giants like Starcraft, and Dawn of War, and even Command and Conquer (though not really a space marine RTS). Halo starts to look a lot more stale, and it becomes obvious that the developers are more interested in making money than innovative games.
