You can release code of your copyright under another license.
Many projects, especially those run by companies, have a contribution clause which says that if you add your code to their tree the copyright is transfered to them. This allows them to relicense the software.
If they do not own the copyright to contributed parts, then they must remove the contributed parts or have approval by the copyright holders.
Make sure you're talking about the Macromedia player. The macromedia player for me, under x86, is great. Fast, never crashes.
swfdec, which i use on my PowerPC machine is very slow and crashes often. It cannot play many files. However, it is good enough for use on my PowerPC machine for my own use; however, I would certainly not call it stable enough for my mother, my grandmother, or even my wife.
This is just stupid. Either slashdot is further down the tube than I thought, or someone thought that April fool's day was a good day to post meaningless drivel.
VNC can be blocked just as easily or not-easily as any other protocol. You could encapsulate it within HTTP traffic, if you needed to. I would suggest at minimum tunnelling within SSH for security and bandwidth (and thus speed) reasons.
I don't see why the state would block VNC but not Cyrix.
Wow, things must have changed quite a bit if Enlightenment is considered fast! Back when FVWM was the windowmanager of choice, Enlightenment was the definition of bloat (right next to emacs).
I'd never think about storing data and loading it dynamically by my program instead of hardcoding it.
I think that storing everything possible in XML or a database is a good thing. Perhaps he is referring to the coding style of outputing everything in XML and use XSLT to convert it as required. This is an incredibly flexible and scalable technique with only slightly more initial development time and effort.
For webpages, I can have my application do a SQL select and output the data as XML. The XSLT template will translate that to HTML. To change the look of my site, I edit the XSLT. The application does not have to be modified to change the look of the website.
This could be done for applications too if using a GUI toolkit based on XML such as XUL. Your program does the SQL select, outputs XML, and then XSLT translates that XML to XUL which is displayed as an application.
Punkbuster is terrible, for Linux gamers. I'm not sure about RTCW, but it is horrible for Quake3.
I'm running the latest version of Quake3 and yet I cannot connect to servers because I have an old version, regardless of having the *latest* version available for my platform.
Punkbuster might not be so bad if it was updated occasionally.
Phoenix is much faster for me, although it is most obvious on my older machines on which Mozilla is too big.
I've heard this complaint before and almost always it is because someone didn't read the FAQ. You must nuke your old Mozilla preferences (~/.mozilla in unix) before starting Phoenix; alternatively, you can create a new profile for Phoenix (-ProfileWizard or -ProfileManager). Phoenix will be very slow if you use a profile created by 'regular' Mozilla.
For every cd in your archive, you will need to have the physical cd archived and restricted while it is being accessed via the network. The cd may only be accessed by one person at any moment.
Is it legal? Depends on whom you ask. The RIAA will say no, but any intelligent lawyer/judge would say yes.
Non-free but worth a look: Some colleges, such as mine, have online libraries with downloadable books. If you're a student, see if your college offers this.

Over-zealous backlight? It may seriously be something with the screen or it's controller, not the video card. You should have it fixed regardless of the cause:)
Either you're too young to ever have used a computer slower than 400mhz (x86) or you're plainly ignorant.
It is true that upgrading from a 400mhz machine to a 4ghz machine will not give you a 'faster internet experience' as Intel may wish for one to think; however, older equipment may not always hold to that.
I have several computers, on cable modem or faster internet connections. However, it can take minutes for webpages to display. Try using Mozilla on a 60mhz 486 with 8 megs of ram. Laughable. Mozilla will not even run quickly with a Pentium 133 with 24 megs of ram. A machine that was very quick and very suitable during it's time.
The argument may be that he should upgrade his computers. However, my argument is that they were suitable years ago, why are they not suitable now?
I used to have 15-20 Netscape4 windows open on a Pentium 133 with 128 megs of ram. Now, that same machine with mozilla cannot reliably have more than a couple Mozilla windows or tabs.
If webpages were made to the standard and Netscape 4 had better standards support, perhaps that machine could still be usable. However, with Netscape4 and most webpages as they are, Netscape4 is useless for anything but a controlled environment such as an intranet.
My wife has a 400mhz Celeron with 64 megs of ram and the machine is too slow for her to be happy with it, even with Linux and XFCE (which is considerably lighter than Gnome/KDE/Windows).
The new 16ms response time LCDs are great for gaming. I bought the new NEC LCD1760NX-BK (black) LCD monitor last month.
The monitor's 16ms response time is good for gaming and much better than the 17" Dell 1702FP (40ms) which I had returned.
There is also much less color banding with the NEC compared to the Dell; however, some color banding is still visible, most notably with my digital photgraphs. Additionally, the colors seem to be off slightly, with colors veering towards blue.
I do not consider the color-issues major as it is only a slight problem and I am not a graphic artist for which it would be a MAJOR problem. I would not buy this monitor if colors were terribly important.
The biggest complaint I have is that there appears to be a small vertical spacing between pixels. This results in a very faint, but disturbing, 'striped' effect. I find it highly distrubing in applications and especially while viewing photographs. I do manage to forget about it occasionally. I never notice it during games.
The NEC is a great monitor for gaming, but nothing else.

The issue is if your video card is supported, not if your monitor is supported. LCD monitors are certainly supported DVI or not. Of course, there may be some video cards for which the DVI output does not work; however, that is certainly not the fault of the monitor.
In October, Congress voted for and approved war if Bush decided for it. They pre-approved the war and stated that the war will be officially declared upon reciept of a letter from Bush indicating that war has begun.
Many people do not believe that this is constitutional, but it is how it has occurred.
Bush has sent his letter to Congress and thus war has officially begun.

Your comments are sadly just what I've heard from the media. There is this idea that it is patriotic to keep quiet during the war, or that being vocal against a war while it is raging is 'bad'. This view by yourself and by the media is plain wrong.
The most patriotic thing one can do is to protest the wrong-doings of their government. Through protest and perhaps even (*gasp*) coup, countries can maintain democracy.
Are you to say that the USA shouldn't have broken from England? Surely, your opinions are that which would have been felt by the English. What about Vietnam? There were a lot of people against that war, were the unpatriotic? I believe that they are considered very patriotic now, even if they weren't then.
All java applications work in Linux. Those that don't aren't really written in java (aka, java should always be cross-platform.. if it isn't, the developer is a numbskull)
However, now discussing the crime via encryption may become an additional sentence over the crime of conspiracy.
The point is that what is the difference between using encryption to secure communications and speaking to that person in private? There is no difference and the government should treat those situations respectfully, without difference.
In other news, private conversation has become a crime when used during the commision of a felony. Felonies commited with the aid of private conversations will carry an additional 5 years sentence.

Get a life.
"estimated to between 2000 and 8500 years old"
That is quite old. Without bothering to research, I'd reckon that there aren't many living organisms older than that either.
