Funny thing is, I think I might be the most weird slashdot member, cos I don't bash on Vista AND I like my PS3... and from what I've seen so far, you have to hate MS and Vista BUT be an Xbox360 lover as well to be on the "in-crowd"... Ah well, I never was much for the in-crowd anyway... I'm way more hip than that! ;P

(ie: I think most of MS related articles on Slashdot have some rather obvious "anti" written all over them.) So my question is, why do you "hang out with the slashdot crowd" so to speak? I know if I were working for MS I would've gone away long ago before I need a daily dose of Prozac. Seriously, I want to know.

For a supercomputer that's pretty cheap. Also I find the statement in the summary that there are no games to be played on the PS3 a bit childish. This almost always comes down to work. BTW: Not saying there isn't a cultural problem, but I think it's a result of the income problem, not the other way around. So "solving" the cultural problem, won't do any good, equal working opportunities on the other hand would.

  19. Insightful? on Judge Says, Record DNA of Everyone In the UK · · Score: 0

Wow, you really think it's that simple?
Cos when I see actual convicted fellons numbers, they don't correlate to the numbers above, so there must be a discreprincy somewhere. Also Googling for teen murders hardly counts as a solid base for a unbiased opinion.

I'm gonna do something crazy and give you some other facts. When looking at level of income white people and black people are actually just as likely to commit crimes, so are blacks just more lazy? Maybe, but there have been some studies to that extent as well. Did you know that if you are black you have about 30% less chance to get a job if you have the same credentials as a white person? Did you know that if your name is arabic, you have a about half a chance to be even invited for a job interview (with the same credentials)? (I could look up the dutch article in which they tested this, but I'm gonna presume you don't speak dutch, though I'm sure there are international surveys with similar results.)

The reason why things are the way they are, is never as easy as googling "teen murders 2007" and putting a conclusion next to it.

Thank you for your response. I "speed-read" through your document and it's nice to be given a better understanding how, why and in what way AI's working together is beneficial. It's also a necessary step before a more advanced AI can create "communities" I gather.

Back on the self-motivation of AI, I guess it's not a field that has the most physical research (as physical as your research I mean) at this time, and I don't know exactly what has been done in the field of that recently. But I guess an AI "psyche" could be based on the notion that animal (human) motivation is born out of positive drive such as: eating (charging battery), sex (hard/near impossible to physically implement self/duo replication) and negative drive such as: pain (damage detection, though function is less useful if there is no healing), hunger (battery almost depleted / less battery = more hunger). Though saying this, I'm sure someone else with much greater knowledge on the subject has already done more work on this than my ramblings here.

Do you know if this has been (virtually) done in any scope yet? With any success as far as you know?

Nice work, any plans to take it a step further? ( mapping area it's in / allowing it to learn on non flat surfaces / arbitrary number of "legs" / ?? ) The most interesting robotic work as far as I'm concerned is exactly what this bot does, namely work from scratch ("not knowing anything of the inputs/outputs) and learning to understand itself and the world around it. Would be even cooler if it could decide it's own goals as well, but it would be difficult. (Where do you start? I think basic drives must be there in the first place.)
