I like to drive anyway, and they can take their big brother state and shove it. All they're doing, from the bag searches to these electronic searches, are illegal under the 4th Amendment according to Judge Napolitano on Fox News. He was very specific. Illegal. I agree.

I have the most annoying experiences trying to read large articles or books on a screen. The font is always smaller than I find comfortable, and enlarging the page causes the necessity of scanning back and forth by moving the "sheet" back and forth, and then of course the stuff is still in 2 columns per page, so you have to read down to the bottom and then scroll up to the top of the next column, all of that taking a tremendous amount of attention that isn't necessary with a real book where you can just flick your eyes where you want to read.

And then often information on computers is presented as the result of searches. What if you don't know that something exists? How do you find out about it? With a magazine or newspaper, you have all the information in front of your eyes, so if there's something "new" that you've never heard of before, it may have a chapter title or a newspaper headline that says something about it, and then you read it. With a computer, you have to search for something in order to bring it up to see - if you don't know it exists, then how do you search for it.

I've found that certain businesses are once again sending me catalogs, such as camera retailers and ham radio retailers. I sit with those things and learn of the existence of things I never suspected existed, and maybe buy them.

As for the NYT, if they hadn't turned it into a support group for the Democratic Party, I would at least be open to buying it occassionally. But as long as all they can do is laud the left and bash the right, I'll not be throwing my pennies their way. They don't have to stop promoting the democrats or bashing the republicans, they just have to also promote the republicans and bash the democrats, too. IOW, they need to be neutral. Journalists are supposed to be neutral, but many of these rags editorialize in far more corners of the publication than just the editorial page.

I don't give a S about the projection of an extra $1.5T of debt over 10 years because it is yet another erroneous projection of the Congressional Budget Office that has historically been wrong in its projections, (did you experience a $2500 / yr reduction in your healthcare insurance rates due to O'care? Me either...) and this time used the pathetic 1.9% GDP growth "achieved" by the Obama administration as a basis for their projection. Trump is already closing in on 4%, and that's even before the tax cuts take effect. Likely, we're going to get to 6% - 7% GDP in the coming years, and a budget surplus isn't out of the question.

The Democrats are responsible for the shutdown because they are the ones filibustering. (Fucking insane...) End of story.

The bottom line is: no wall => Mexican urchins get deported. IOW, Trump will enforce the law in accordance with the Constitution, (Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution commands that the President “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”) Period. Enjoy.

Otherwise I don't see why people don't like Trump. What exactly is it? Is it the 4.1% and falling unemployment rate, where 3.5% is considered "full employment?" Alright, BIG-ASS SPOILER ALERT. Don't read if you don't want too much information:

Or maybe a few things I need to enjoy the film, as my enjoyment was quite a bit diminished from what I was expecting.

First, where are the men in this movie. We have Leia as the commanding general in this fight. A woman as a combat commander is HIGHLY unusual, but then when she is incapacitated, the 2nd banana is also a woman? Can we have some semblance of reality? And as a man, I feel discriminated against by this and the other things, including:

The person that Finn ends up going on the expedition with to retrieve the galaxy-class codebreaker is... another woman.

Then there's the problem that it seems the men are only allowed to have less-than-admirable roles. Finn is a lying coward that is always looking to desert whatever outfit he is a part of - I'm ok with deserting the stormtroopers since that is mostly an escape from slavery, but ever since, you can't believe a word he says and he's again mostly looking for a way out.

Poe is at least a competent pilot, but not necessarily the hero. Disobeying orders works sometimes when it's absolutely clear that its the right thing to do, but that's not the case here, as the Resistence lost 100% of their bomber fleet to destroy just 1 enemy ship. Leadership was right, Poe was wrong in pursuing this attack. Then he stages a mutiny - OK, the 2nd banana woman was probably a traitorous coward, but still, how do we feel good about this? What is such an incompetent doing in the chain of command at this point, at such a high rank? Just not feelin' it, y'know.

So, where are the actual male heroes? Still looking.

Then there's the stuff that just doesn't work. Rey is this master light-saber swordswoman? I'm already turned off by the 1st 2 episodes of Star Trek: Discovery which has women going hand-to-hand with Klingons, which even Kirk was barely able to do, and winning which is total fantasy. Haven't bothered to watch the 3rd episode, maybe will, maybe won't, but this "equality" nonsense in combat is not believable. There are no female Arnold Swarzeneggers / Rambos and that's what it would take to go up against Klingons. Likewise, that's what it would take for Rey to accomplish what she did in a lot of the fight sequences and survive. I'll take Wonder Woman as pure fantasy, but this is quasi-sci-fi fantasy and I don't like the discrimination against males being exhibited in these latest Hollywood products, and at some point I'm going to stop contributing my $$$ if they keep it up. Discrimination is wrong, period, no matter who it's against.

And, another thing - the introduction of the ability to project onesself in a holographic-like presence, apparently as a function of the force, is brand new, never seen before, extremely useful, and... we're only learning of it in episode 8? I can't recall ever seeing it before. Storytellers I think are not sticking to the parameters of their fantasy world and going too far in "making shit up" and it just doesn't make for a good story when you break your own rules.

Anyway, I got up after watching it with a noticeable lack of the "Wow" I usually get from watching a new Star Wars movie. I got a "Wow" from the Rogue One last year, but not this time.

    >The emergency communication issue is irrelevant because of mobile cell towers.

Remember Puerto Rico? No power whatever - well, almost - everything was out except for extremely limited areas with emergency generators. The American Red Cross asked the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) for help. The ARRL is ham radio. The ARRL was able to send 22 operators that went down to Puerto Rico and relayed health and welfare messages back to the USA.

Those messages came in chiefly on 7.000 - 7.300 megahertz bad, known as 40 meters. Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) of about 10 years ago would clobber the hell out of bands in this area of the spectrum. While there was no BPL or anything else in Puerto Rico to interfere, the USA hams on the other end would not be receiving these 40 meter signals with a power line going "Braaaaaappppp" in the backyard for the purpose of delivering internet signals over a power line.

This is an idea that deserved to die before it was formed. Hopefully this will be shot dead with a bazooka before anyone can deploy it.

The problem with all these accords and protocols is that they're fake. None of them REQUIRE the REAL polluters, China and India, do do a damned thing. They can spew forever, and thereby manufacture cheaply and skewer the prosperity of other country's manufacturing who are trying to compete with their unfair advantage of not having to figure in "climate change" costs. Screw that. We'll continue what we're doing, which is constructing electrical facilities with wind, solar, natural gas, and to a much lesser extent coal, and be far ahead of all the other-world whiners that simply want a pipeline into the US Treasury. We will far outstrip the rest of the world in this, especially when Trump begins bringing the factories back to (low-emmission USA) from their (very dirty) overseas locations right now. That's how to fight climate change, do industry with clean energy, and it will mostly happen inside the USA without benefit of any "protocol" or "accord."
