I have lived in the US, and in a couple of European countries and I think the major difference is not just the availability of guns (though more guns = more gun deaths is a given) but the attitude towards guns and gun violence in the US is really a scary thing to behold.

  10. Why limit choices? on Why Google Needs To Pull the Plug On Chrome OS · · Score: 2, Insightful

"Because it might hinder linux" is a pretty stupid reason for dumping the chrome OS. I don't know if you realize this or not, but the reasons for not using linux aren't limited to it not being available or known to the masses. At this point most people know what it is, and many people have tried it. I had it on my netbook pre-installed, and I installed windows 7 instead. Why? It saves me a lot of time and effort to run windows over linux. I find applications I need more quickly, never have installation issues or driver issues, all my devices work with it as is, and I have far more options. Linux is a very solid OS, but its really not a good choice for many people who could care less about learning it or spending more than 5 minutes configuring their software. My netbook is a tool I use for work, and I don't particularly enjoy my time using it. I would much rather be doing something else, so spending extra time on it, to me, is just not something I am willing to do. I have very rarely had virus or security issues because I just don't run around clicking on random crap online, so the whole "security" issue is just not there for me.

I have had no crashes, no blue screens, and no issues running all my software. So I just don't get it? Do you people not configure your windows for performance on your systems? Do you just install it and leave it? Maybe I'm just some kind of fluke, but I guess we'll see as I just put it on the rest of the gaming PC's in this house (one more SLI system and one ATI pos) but the kids seem to like it so far... as far as replacing it with a Mac, uh a Mac can't do what I need it to do.

I tried a few different RPG's and it always ends up with me realizing how much time I am wasting doing the same thing over and over again, and uninstalling the game. There was ONE RPG I got hooked on for a while called Requiem: Bloodymare and it was free, better looking and far more interesting than WOW, but hell its obviously got a following... I could choose to go to a loan shark because they don't do thorough credit checks, but it doesn't mean I should. Anyone that couldn't afford the loan should know they shouldn't take one out, and if they didn't know, I think the onus is on them to educate themselves on the process before diving in, truth be told, many many people took these loans KNOWING they couldn't afford it, and many many more jumped on the "flip this house" bandwagon completely unprepared... I think the bottom line here is that the banks dangled the bait, but you didn't have to bite. I don't by any means believe the banks didn't know what they were doing, and probably KNEW the bailouts would be there for them as usual, but it was peoples greed that allowed them to get away with this.
