From TFA: "In order to obtain said license, technicians must receive a criminal justice degree or participate in a three-year apprenticeship. Those shops that refuse to participate will be forced to shut down. Violators of the new law can be hit with a $4,000 dollar fine and up to a year in jail, penalties that apply to customers who seek out their services."
How does that make any sense? I used to work in help desk, and I would be asked to "snoop" data when looking for viruses ALL THE TIME. Although the above poster, who argued that he can't be a cop because of the lack of credentials, it's completely different from that.
Sure, you should have a license, but make that some variant of the CISSP (probably associate). At least that would be beneficial to the person.
PI license seems like OVERKILL to the max on this issue. 3 years of apprenticeship? Criminal justice degree? Who in the computer industry would graduate with a criminal justice degree? Probably not too many...........
I guess this will be good for the people in the industry in Texas, as the supply of techs will become lower therefore the demand will raise...... higher incomes for those techs who can hack it.
Governments need much better knowledge about technology so they don't do stupid things like this, maybe have an official governmental position.....
Intelligence does not equal knowledge
Knowledge is what you know
Intelligence is pattern matching
The set of patterns to choose from is knowledge
The more knowledge you have, the larger set of patterns to choose from
I think it'd be very difficult to simulate a mind like Einstein's, but to simulate your average person seems like it'd be do-able.
You forget that most people are actually pretty stupid. They have very simplistic rules in their mind and their end goal is really just to make money.
Creating a system that would simulate a dumb person doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult to do. Insert probabilities of things occuring into the system, start off with "I don't know anything", and then let it build it's knowledge itself.
I graduated with a degree in Cognitive Science w/ an emphasis in computer science from Berkeley, so it's essentially Artificial Intelligence.
Dumb people would not be hard to mimic. The hard part comes in recognition of the real world by the computer
Hello,
Can someone please explain to me how spinning drives are "more reliable" than SSDs? I mean the ONLY explanation I could give just that regular HDs have been used for so long, so we "know what to expect"....
'It will take three to four years for SSDs to come to parity with hard drives,' on price and reliability."
Are there any *REAL* guides out there that will show you how it's done through purchasing hardware from a store?
It'd be nice to be able to do this all yourself if you have the right tools...
Teaching is the best way to learn.
I was a computer science tutor up at Berkeley and I learned FAR MORE from tutoring than I did from the classes.
Find someone who is interested in the linux kernel and teach them. If they're smart they'll ask you questions you've never thought about asking, which in turn will end up solidifying your knowledge.
haha sorry wrong comment to respond to, meant this for one comment up
Feel free to delete both of them moderators.
Flame fish catcher - I thought it was a very valid question to ask.
It's all about precedent.
Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere, and this is so much more true when it comes to precedence.
Imagine they win... that means they could sue just about everyone for 965,217% of the cost of what they were "stealing"...
It's not nazi-ish at all.
It's educating. It's doing population control, something that the human race constantly battles against with "religion".
F*cking=>Overpulation=>Starving
The problem won't be resolved until the ROOT of the problem is addressed.
I actually I agree with what you're saying.
Control the cause not the effect.
Cause: overpopulation
Effect: starvation
EDUCATION WOULD BE THE BEST GIFT - contraception, etc
Jump rope is highly highly underrated. It is pretty much a total body workout.
Try jump roping for 3 minutes straight - you'll definitely feel like you've just been jogging for about 15-20.
If it becomes to easy - wear some weight. You could probably do it without even buying dumbbells. Just be creative.
So if I am a tech, you tell me your computer got hacked, is it illegal for me to fix your problem?
Does the law only pertain to a legal investigation? If no one is filing a suit, can I easily repair anyone's computer?

Try another computer connected to the same wireless device - eliminate your own computer as culprit. Google "free proxy colorado" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en-us&q=proxy+colorado+free&btnG=Search Results in: http://www.cooleasy.com/index.php?act=whois&ip=128.138.207.181 - 5th hit In any case, google is always your friend when it comes to troubleshooting stuff, there's a good chance someone else has experienced what you have

Amsterdam? Gotta love a country that legalizes...
