Who's going to stick up for all the out of work Chinese?
On a serious note, no one seems to have a problem with insourcing. Concentrate on making your own country more competitive instead of erecting barriers between countries.
His film killed no one. People reacting to the film may have. Most likely it wasn't over the film but an organized terrorist attack which had nothing to do with the film.
History and trends apparently haven't driven this point home.
If what gives a great education is money, Camden, NJ (the poorest city in America) should have the most awesome education available since the amount of federal and state aid it gets per pupil is truly staggering.
Does money help? Sure. But it can't make up for parents who don't care, broken homes, etc.
If throwing money at education would solve the problem, it would be solved by now.
About half the cost of beer is taxes. And then a sales tax is applied to that price usually. So we tax tax. So the cost of beer minus taxes is incredibly reasonable.
No offense, but I love German beer and they have a high quality generally but.... the American beer scene has a lot more variety and a bigger willingness to be innovative. German beer, not so much.
We are in a better position now than anytime since Prohibition and probably before too.
Anytime there is a chart that shows how the average worker isn't doing as well...those graphs all start going weird in the early 70's. Which happens to be when Nixon took America off the gold standard and inflation took hold.
"If this is not a record, then let's restate it saying that Apple reached $621 Billion with a PE ratio of about 15-16. Microsoft set the record with $619 Billion with an PE ration of 88, about what Facebook had with all its hype."
I currently work as a DBA for a Big Data database (Vertica). My answer would be if the speed and volumes you require make Oracle and SQL Server look bad unless you buy a ton of expensive hardware or magic tricks, that's a Big Data database.
Billions of rows usually.
Vertica, Teradata, Neteeza, and others like that would fit that bill.
Well, with $110 billion in cash, Apple can upfront the money for a factory for Sharp, get exclusivity for a period, and discounts after that. If Apple is providing the financing, Sharp can be as insolvent as the American government.
Especially in the days of broadband connections. Lots of startups don't need to have everyone together. Many do.
But Silicon Valley has everything to do with having a critical mass of talent. That's pretty much it. Besides the weather, I don't think anyone would start it there if it wasn't there already.
As people say, China will get old before they get rich. Please don't interpret me as saying America doesn't have several problems they have to work through, but at the very least they don't have a demographic problem (compared to most parts of the developed world).
China's one child policy is ultimately going to bite them. I know the general sentiment on Slashdot is Malthusian, but the number one resource of a nation is people. And if you have a demographic of population decline (eventually), a lot of single males, and too many old people relative to young people, that's not a long-term trend for success.
Generally, the contractor will start looking and like acting the customer, especially if you only have one customer.
Also, technical projects are hard. Requirements can change by a lot. And in some segments of the military government officials are only in their positions 2-3 years, so they don't get the level of expertise they need.
You have to mention everything that could be a potential threat to your business in SEC filings. Not particularly interesting since this is "may do this, may do that."
Having really cheap (relative to world prices) natural gas is a huge factor in domestic manufacturing. If you have any energy intensive operations, you are immediately given a big advantage. Natural gas is also used as a feedstock for the chemical industry in America, so you get a huge advantage there as well.
for her at least. HP has better prospects than California.

I'm not comfortable equating the Muslim world to a crowded theater. They have moral agency and the ability to control themselves.
There is a difference between yelling "fire" and dealing with a group who can't control their outrage.

Because it is quite likely that this arrest is about censorship to appease jihadists.

They probably are used to having Comcast as their Internet provider.

And this, in a nutshell, is the difference.

Reason is libertarian.

It's much worse than what I've said. Some people commit a crime on your property and they seize your property.
This happens with citizens all the time.

You get arrested for a crime. Your assets are seized. Charges are dropped or you are found not guilty. They don't give you your assets back.
You have to mention everything that could be a potential threat to your business in SEC filings. Not particularly interesting since this is "may do this, may do that."
And then the Doritos Locos Taco was introduced...and it was if the world had changed.

Money that is "sat on" gets invested. That's a good thing.
