    I am amazed it took this long for someone to suggest uploading to a service that will be around in 25 years. I think it would work out very well, plus you could accompany with audio, video, etc.

    The title is completely true, the clients are still vulnerable; regardless of the reduced risk, there is the possibility of an attack. I don't really find the submission to be very sensationalist, simply stating that there is still a risk. Thanks for informing the /.ers that don't RTFA.

    You conveniently ignore the fact that the law-enforcement system wrongly incarcerates many people, murderers included. We'll ignore your distopian ideal until they fix that glaring issue.

    I'm guessing you conveniently ignored the rest of your parent's post, the part about how the death penalty is no good? If you are concerned about those wrongly convicted, wouldn't it be worse to slay them then to have them alive?

    The inclusion of a beta in a LTS makes far more sense than including a browser that will soon be outdated and unsupported. Firefox 3 will exit beta long before Ubuntu releases another LTS. Definitely agree with the rest of the comment though, 8.04 could've used some more time.

    The why's never end. Science try to explain HOW things work. But why they work that way, it's a problem impossible to solve - we'd need a way to measure them that is superior to the things being explained. In other words, we'd need a power greater than the whole universe to explain WHY. I have a 'why' for you:

    Why does it matter why? Why does it matter if there is a god or not? Things are the way they are because that's the way they are.

    When at least six months of the year are winter (either snow or just too damn cold) a motorcycle is not practical. Not that an SUV is either, I've seen a Hummer stuck in a snowbank and had a good chuckle. As long as you have proper tires and don't drive like a fool, any car will do fine in the snow.

    I'm hoping at some point in time I will get the opportunity to drive a Lotus (any of them). The whole principle behind it - speed through light weight, not huge power - is brilliant. I'm not sure what the fuel efficiency is in one, but it can't be too shabby considering that their "high power" model rocks out about 240hp from a supercharged 1.8L engine. It may be a little impractical as an every-day driver though...

    It only points out two things, both of which are already commonly known by almost everyone in IT. And that's why this is relevant. Because it is not common knowledge outside the IT field, and it makes an appearance in the New York Times. The article could be more in-depth, or provide more conclusive evidence I agree, but getting the facts out there to the average (NYT reading) Joe is a good first step.

    The worst part of it though is how they throw in the whole thing of "we weren't actually downloading or sharing anything". No, they were just connecting to the tracker. And of course, everyone knows "pirates" commonly connect to torrent trackers to do nothing. True, pirates don't connect to a tracker to observe, but the point being made is that an entity that was only observing (not doing anything illegal or warranting a takedown notice) is being pinned as a pirate.

    Haven't tried actually getting the service, but you can enter any true statement in between the or's for the $0 annual charge (i.e. ' or 1 or ', ' or 2+2=4 or ' etc.). Whoever designed that form made some major goofups.

    At many of the intersections here in Calgary (at least in the Northwest of the city), most roads with speed limits of 70km/hr or better will have the flashers about 50-100m in front of the lights, giving pretty ample warning. Funny that one that DOESN'T have the flashers (Crowchild Tr. & 24th ave) DOES have a red light camera...

    Does it matter where you direct them if ABC is giving the episodes away for free? Obviously ABC would be preferable to YouTube since you don't need to deal with all the YouTards' yapping of "LOLZ gr8 muvee" and such.

    Ideally (for me at least) distribution would be something like Radiohead's latest: I can try it and listen for free (legally) and then purchase it at a price I feel is fair (if I like it) .

    This is roughly how I get music now, except it is try (illegally via torrent), then buy (at an inflated price, which requires me liking it more, and thus resulting in less sales for them).

    Your parent wasn't arguing that it wasn't a 'best-selling phone' (Which it isn't, the best selling in North America would be from RIM)

    What GP was trying to get at was that if Apple wanted the iPhone to be a truly competitive and flexible smart phone, the best way to accomplish that would be to open the interface completely to third party apps with the SDK.
